Kanye West – Egomaniac

Published by at 7:31 am under All General Discussions

At one time I had a lot of sympathy for young Kanye West, with his struggle with fame and loss of his mothert. But his self absorption has definitely reached the point where he is THE GUY everyone wishes and hopes won’t show up to the par-tay:

Moments after Swift won the MTV VMA for best female video for “You Belong With Me,”  West appeared onstage and interrupted her speech. Swift was in the midst of talking about the difficulty country artists face in crossing over on MTV when West declared that the award should have gone to Beyoncé for her “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It).”

Throughout the remainder of the night, the VMA crowd at New York’s Radio City Music Hall let West hear it, booing loudly anytime his name was mentioned. Pink, a performer on the telecast, took to her Twitter, and blasted Kanye — its R-rated language prevents us from linking to it.

What a scene stealer. Can’t even let the poor country singer have her 30 seconds of MTV VMA fame. Do they give out awards for the biggest VMA jerk? Lots of twittering amongst musicians pretty much fed up with Kanye’s antics.

Jees AJ, I thought you were a masochist for sitting through bobo’s song and dance routine last week but you must’nt continue on this path or risk BDS yourself. (PS: there was a football game on last night, that’s what we do in America).

Anyway, this was the same uninformed miscreant that went on a Bush bashing tirade in Europe to boost sales of his record? CD? video? duet with the Dixie Chimps? (not sure what he puts out). But it sounds like MTV is trying to regain some of its lost audience of true music fans by reaching out to the country audience. Long and short for me is this represents some of the worst artistic crap ever disguised as music by the least talented hacks to mug it up for a camera (the young lady Ms Swift excluded).

Try Pandora and remember what music was once like. And take back control over what goes into your head.

Not sure if you take requests but I miss your informative posts on what’s going on in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Especially would like to know where all the captured Taliban leaders are ending up……hopefully not a place as bad as G-Bay! I worry these guys are just being recycled over there. Saw one report of a Swedish national, former G Bay detainee recently caught over there.

Kanye West is what Obama wishes he could be.

But I gotta agree with what Chris Rock said about the Oscars, and expand it twice over to cover all of these wanna-be awards shows that the various industries have.

    Chris Rock:

“I really don’t know any straight men who aren’t in show business that have ever watched the Oscars. What straight black man sits there and watches the Oscars?”

Not that there’s anything WRONG with that, of course!!!” heh.

Although I must warn everyone of the consequences of watching one of these shows all the way through:

    KauaiBoy,

Good point – will try and get back to the Pak-Afghan conflict, seeing as it is the end of the war on Terror.

I did talk to some folks working for NATO in Afghanistan recently and (a) it is easily winnable and (b) the strategy has changed a lot. Less war and more standing up local government (which takes time and is boring).

Thanks for the reminder – AJStrata

For anyone who wants to keep track of Afghanistan (and I’m sure you’ve followed, him, AJ, but this is for anyone else) the absolute best reportage done by anyone is found on Michael Yon’s site:

    http://www.michaelyon-online.com/michael-s-dispatches/

You will not only find information, but some of the most compelling and well written war reporting that has ever been done, ever. Michal Yon is easily the equal of Ernie Pyle and better than any other war front reporter I have ever read.

Highly recomended columns in particular: Bad Medicine, which annoyed Gordon Brown so much that the British prematurely canceled his embed (even though Micheal simply reported what he saw) and Kopp Etchel’s Effect Part 1, which has absolutely stunning photography. Actually, all of Michael’s photography is award winning quality, and better than anything anyone else is doing, but this one has some helicopter shots that are incredibly eerie.

and the first two shots of his latest column are also incredible:

    KauaiBoy,

Don’t worry, the Strata family didn’t waste brain cells on the VMAs. We watched a movie and the end of the football game.

Good to hear that the voice of reason won out in the Strata household.

Thanks for the tip WWS, I have gotten lazy with one stop shopping for ideas and need to get over to that site more regularly. More coverage of that part of the world and those “remote outlaw tribal areas” won’t be so clouded in mystery. It is a small world after all.
