The Audi – Green Police ad was THE funniest commercial I’ve seen in a long time. Biting satire and very clever. I’ve watched it at least a dozen times and have laughed harder each time.
…
I enjoyed the Green Police commercial. Make someone a laughing stock if you want to destroy them.
“Keep your hands off my Mama and my Doritos.”
GOP………..this bunch knows how to send a clear message.
For those of you who liked the Green Police commercial, methinks you got the wrong message.
1) “The Green Police are coming”
2) “Prepare yourself and give in ahead of time”.
3) “Buy our Green product”.
Its message: “surrender to fascism”.
Yes, it has an element of humor in place, I grant, but the message is still one of surrender. “Here’s a joke to ease the pain” does not make it more acceptable.
And THAT is why it’s one of the worst commercials that has aired in a long time. I’m sure it plays well with the cheese-eating surrender monkeys, but it’s not something anyone in America should find appealing.
You want a better one, swap it around — have someone doing things to embarrass the GP, repeatedly, by poking fun at them and/or doing things to highlight how ridiculous they are (swap around the armadillo joke, for example — have them open a cage or something expecting a green-sniffing dog and they find an armadillo in its place). THEN show said individual(s) driving off in an Audi. The message becomes: “You can defy the fascists and STILL do sensibly green things: Buy Audi.”
What they have done is managed to play mostly to the green/liberals who already bought Audis, at the cost of ticking off people who don’t normally select Audis.
When in the market for a new car, I might have looked at the TT model, it’s somewhat cool looking (that’s not a final selection criteria, but it is an initial review criteria).
As a result of that commercial, however, I will now guarantee you that I won’t pay Audi any attention.
