Rumsfeld Critic Is Very Left Wing
From a reader who finds interesting information we find General Zinni is a part of a group which is quite leftwing in its ‘ideas’:
The Center for Defense Information is dedicated to strengthening security through: international cooperation; reduced reliance on unilateral military power to resolve conflict; reduced reliance on nuclear weapons; a transformed and reformed military establishment; and, prudent oversight of, and spending on, defense programs.
CDI seeks to contribute alternative views on security to promote wide-ranging discourse and debate. CDI educates the public and informs policy-makers about issues of security policy, strategy, operations, weapon systems and defense budgeting, and pursues creative solutions to the problems of today and tomorrow.
CDI is part of the World Security Institute, whose divisions include the Center for Defense Information, International Media, the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting, Azimuth Media and International Programs with offices in Brussels and Moscow, and projects in China.
In other words, he is part of the ‘appease and pray we are last to be shot’ crowd. Apparently Rumsfeld is not concerned less than 1% of the generals have issues with his leadership:
Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld shrugged off calls for his resignation in an interview aired on Arab television Friday, saying there are thousands of generals and that differences of opinion were to be expected.
…
Asked about the retired military leaders that have called for him to go, Rumsfeld said there were between 3,000 and 6,000 retired and active generals.
“I respect their (the generals’) views but, obviously, if out of thousands and thousands of admirals and generals, if every time two or three people disagreed we changed the secretary of defense of the United States, it would be like a merry-go-round,” Rumsfeld told Al-Arabiya television.
Zinni is old school, pre-Iraq, and a Clintonista to boot. Anything he says has to be considered in that light. If he was not, would he be getting all the media attention we’ve seen of late?
I used to get the newsletter from CDI. Yes, they are all about alternative ways to deal with bad people. In the years I got the newsletter I don’t remember seeing one positive story about the military. Not one.
