Brinkmanship May Be The Answer – Go To Default
Major Update: If Boehner’s bill is a short term hike in the ceiling of less than $1 trillion, and comes with equal cuts, then I say vote for passage. I have said all along small real steps are preferred over grand visions of fiction and foolery. I am all for revisiting this every 6 months until 2012 elections. So if that is the bill being voted – pass it and grab our fruits of victory. – end update
The above picture [click to enlarge] was sent to us in one of those broadcast emails you get every day, yet is one of those iconic images that could live forever. It is especially relevant right now. Today the GOP in The House have to make a stand for the kind of nation all our forefathers and foremothers fought and died for. This week America either survives its bought with our decades battle with socialistic cancer, or it goes terminal.
I don’t think Congress or DC gets it yet. I don’t want to lose all the progress made to date on framing the debate on the out of control debt and out of control government, but the plans now up in the House and Senate are just too mealy-mouthed and too impotent.
Major Garret notes 6 similarities between the Boehner and Reid plans, none of which impress.
1. Nearly identical domestic discretionary spending targets for fiscal 2012 and fiscal 2013:
Which means no real cuts until the 2012 election. This is completely unacceptable.
6. Committee: Both proposals would create a 12-member congressional committee to study future deficit reduction.
And this means the Tea Party reps sent to Congress will have no say – also completely unacceptable. The other 4 provisions are meaningless.
So, the Political Industrial Complex and the power brokers could not come up with any real cuts and want to silence the libertarian forces sent to DC to get government back into its box.
Well then I guess some short term chaos is the only answer. Democrats caused major financial chaos when they screwed with mortgage lending rules, and then added to the chaos when they went on a mindless and useless spending spree. So their complaints of fiscal sanity are a huge, ironic and pathetic joke. Chiding from them and their media groupies is easily ignored.
But John Boehner has lost his credibility. I like the man, but he should have understood the people want action and they definitely did not want their voices muted by another CYA committee (which everyone ignores). Yesterday I asked how could we save the fruits of our victory- and the answer today is we have no fruits to salvage.
We either default and send the elites a clear message we are done with business as usual, or we continue business as usual and destroy the futures of our children. I guess all elites have chosen the painful way through this – but better pain for them and us than hurting our children further.
Don’t pass Boehner’s surrender bill.
Update: CBO confirms, Reid and Boehner don’t cut a damn thing before 2012. And the Dems so their way or the highway. Then we go the highway.
Update: A good and rationale explanation as to why we cannot accept the crap currently ‘on the table’.
Amen, Thankyou AJ!
Burn it down around their ears!
It’s time to get it on or be forever slaves to the elitist Political, media, corporatist class.
Stock up on food, water and cash or barterable goods,
It’s time to light that candle as Dennis Miller would say.

Now this is a day I never thought I’d see! Don’t get me wrong, I agree, if it comes to that, eventual collapse is guaranteed, so we might as well have it out right now.
I give you great credit for hanging on to the virtues of centrism and “compromise” (Ramirez has a great cartoon on that this morning) longer than anybody else I read. Now even you have come to the realization that we have a binary choice here; we either deal with the problem seriously, or we don’t and collapse as a result. There is no longer any middle ground in this fight.
150 years ago this summer, every one in this country had to choose which of two sides they were going to be on – to refuse to choose was to have the choice made for them by others.
Looks like we’ve come full circle. But this time, I think Washington will fall.

Sharron Angle puts the greasy, old, fool in his place much more eloquently than the old panderer himself ever could speak.
McStupid take Boehner, McConnell, Cantor and the rest of the paniced politicos who buy their constituents to stay in power and retire your irrelevant except as a tool for the left and the status quo!
Boehner STARTED negotiations from we will not let the country default.
Trump was right these clowns don’t know how to negotiate only to buy their support with others money (ours).
Palin Trump 2012.

Otter: … Bluto’s right. Psychotic… but absolutely right. We gotta take these bastards. Now we could do it with conventional weapons, but that could take years and cost millions of lives. No, I think we have to go all out. I think that this situation absolutely requires a really futile and stupid gesture be done on somebody’s part!
Bluto: and We’re just the guys to do it!
WWS,
I have to give people a chance to do what is right. I cannot assume doom and expect anything else. And Boehner may still salvage this if he does a small 6 month rise with cuts equaling the rise (which I now see is possible).
But at the end, there as to be minimum progress. Don’t forget, I clean up after federal bureaucratic screw ups as a living. I know many times the heart is in the right place, it is the skill or ingenuity that is lacking.
Most of the financial world still isn’t taking this too seriously – they still think it’s all just a show and the two sides will work out something at the last minute – that’s aways what they’ve done before.
But I don’t see this as anything like what’s happened before; the game has changed. I believe this is going to be a year like 1861, 1914, 1939 – years in which established conventions that had worked for decades broke down and in which history changed dramatically.
What seems to me most significant about years like this is that both sides paint themselves into positions so firmly that it means their destruction if they back down. When you’re in that position, a fight to the death is the only logical choice. And what’s worse, *no* *one* on any side is ever able to foresee the true outcome once the conflict breaks wide open. History undergoes a Discontinuity, if you will, and from then on memory is divided into the Time Before and the Time After. Think about the years I’ve named, and you can see it is true for all of them.
I never used to think it possible that I would outlive the United States. I still don’t think it probable, but that outcome gets more Possible every day. I never thought that the USSR could break up, either.
The Lyin kING said he wanted to fundamental transform America. This is his chance.
Boehner is in a trap.
As Rush said anything he sends to the Senate will be voted down.
Harry will add his goddies including Obamas re-election wish that the deal extend past his election and mybe even some taxes and at the last minute be bounced back to the House.
Tea Parties fault if it doesn’t pass with the Obama re-election stuff in it.
It’s a fight that has to be fought. Might as well do it now while the public, those who are paying attention anyway, know full well the rats who ran up the debt have offered NO solutions, no budgets, no plans of their own.
This is what happens when you bargain from weakness. ie. We won’t allow default, punting on the hard stuff like entitlements. Not proposing eliminating entire departments and programs.
At least had those been in the mix, there would have been room to bargain, here there is none.
Trump was right we have no negotiators smarter than a 5th grader, just go alongs to get alongs, happily riding along on the expense account of We The People.
The account is closed clowns!
We are tired of paying and funding your re-election bids, your panders to money grubbers and entitlement seekers.
Tea Party Proud and Gonna Stay Loud!
AJ the bill that passes out of the House will NOT be the bill that passes the Senate.
That bill will be marked up with all the rats goodies attached and sent back to the House.
When the Tea Party objects the Rinos will push and shove and scream and bawl so the fault for default will end up being laid at the feet of the Tea Party and the two party system will try to remain as the reasonable ones in the mess. Remain to tax and spend and grow government as Boehners bill does.
It is us the Rats must marginalize.
Boehner brought this on by beginning negotiations for a $30,000 car at 29,900 instead of $15,000.
He either has to hold this until two minutes before the default or keep sending over CCB. Preferrably CCB.
Harry will send any bill back with terms extending past 2013.
Harry has 23 Senators up for re-election in 2012.
Tea Party Proud and Gonna Stay Loud, McCain!
AJ,
Glad to see you see the light (that only by fighting for your convictions you win, sooner or later).
Gone are the days of railings about the “extreme right”….
