Moronic Democrats & The 14th Amendment
The 14th Amendment to the US Constitution says in part:
Section 4. The validity of the public debt of the United States, authorized by law, including debts incurred for payment of pensions and bounties for services in suppressing insurrection or rebellion, shall not be questioned. But neither the United States nor any State shall assume or pay any debt or obligation incurred in aid of insurrection or rebellion against the United States, or any claim for the loss or emancipation of any slave; but all such debts, obligations and claims shall be held illegal and void.
Section 5. The Congress shall have power to enforce, by appropriate legislation, the provisions of this article.
Only moronic Democrats would miss the fact the Constitution clearly defines these responsibilities to the Congress and not the President. But apparently moronic Democrats exist in large numbers:
Assistant Minority Leader Rep. James Clyburn, R-S.C., said today that if a long-term deal is not struck by Aug. 2, President Obama should sign an executive order raising the debt ceiling without Congressional approval. He said this action would be justified because of a section in the 14th Amendment that states that “the validity of the public debt … shall not be questioned.”
This is the path to dictatorship. Why doesn’t the President just pass his own budget while he is screwing with the constitution and separation of powers. This is why we need to clean house in DC. One could easily call this a treasonous act.
it’s astounding to me that the far left is jumping on this bandwagon, when even the most respected left-wing constitutional scholar in the country, Lawrence Tribe, has written that it would be clearly unconstitutional and grounds for impeachment.
As we have said before, all the masks are coming off – the Left is showing that deep down, they have *always* despised democracy and despised our Constution. What they truly desire is a new Caesar.
Well, this is how the original Caesar’s got their start. They had supporters then just as they have supporters now, and they do make things easier in the short term – no more messy debates. Of course, there’s always the messy bit about eventually having to kill or imprison eveyrone who disagrees, but that’s something the left has always secretly (and now openly) longed for as well.
and while some of them are morons, not all of them are. Some of them know exactly what they’re doing, and for the good of this country they must be crushed.
How do we get the Lyin kING Impeached when his Rats own the Senate. These same Rats who passed healthscare in the middle of the night, on a weekend, through tricks and lies will not Impeach the usherer in of their Socialist Ideals. It will take more from We The People than faith in the Senate or Rat Party.
It will take marches in the streets the likes of which have NEVER been seen.
Well, the real worry is whether Obama will proclaim an “Emergency” and suspend the 2012 elections.
If he can print his own money the way the Leftards want, why not?
Clyburn had not learned to shut his mouth yet!

Found this comment with the above link:
“The 14th Amendment compels Obama to pay interest on EXISTING debt. “The validity of the public debt of the United States, authorized by law, … shall not be questioned.”
It does not permit him to issue NEW debt. That is a power delegated by the States solely to the federal Congress under Article I, Section 8 of the U.S Constitution. “The Congress shall have the Power … To borrow money on the credit of the United States”.”
Bingo, DJ.
That point is so blindingly obvious that only an absolute idiot – or someone who’s real goal is to get rid of all constitutional restrictions altogether – could fail to point this out.
And what is the mental capacity required to noticed that Obama personally shot down this option? Or that it was proposed by McConnell, the Republican leader in the Senate?
The folks still nattering about this maneuver are the ones more scared of the consequences of national default than they are scared of the consequences of procedural hijinks. This is understandable, though disagreeable.
Although it seems incredible, it is obvious that a goodly percentage of folks carrying on about the debt ceiling debate are confused in that they think the debt ceiling is tied to future spending, when it is in fact all about past spending that the Congress already approved and disbursed the allocated funds.
