Cringe-Worthy Effort By Romney To Buy Votes

Published by at 11:52 am under All General Discussions

Romney keeps plowing forward with his silver-spoon, blue blooded bumbling. His Highnessness (yes, that one is deliberate) has taken pity on one of the lesser types:

Amid shaking hands and signing campaign posters, Mitt Romney did something he has never done before on the ropeline: He took out his wallet and handed a wad of cash to a woman waiting to shake his hand.

Ugh. Are we now left with Daddy Warbucks as our solution to big government? Is this not the most crass political stunt you’ve ever had to digest?

According to Williams, she followed the campaign bus to the Columbia airport on Wednesday, the same day Romney was arriving from New Hampshire. When Romney wasn’t on the bus, aides told her to go to the rally scheduled in Columbia later that day. When she showed up, Romney found her to say hello and pulled over South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley to say “hello” too.

In other words, tipped by his political handlers Romney tried to put on a little skit showing how the rich can help the poor with a hand out. Pathetic. What she needs is a good job.

This is turning out to be one of the worst election cycles in memory. The GOP seems hell-bent on promoting Wall Street over Main Street – which is of course just as much out of favor as Big Government.

So we have a choice in 2012??? Not from what I can see. We have the anti-contraceptive, insecure around gay coulples Santorum. We have Newt the self-imploding Nuke. And we have Paul, playing your crazy old uncle who would surrender to the smallest island nation in a guilt ridden panic (does he have French ancesters?).

Lord save us.

If you have followed Newt’s life at all, you’ve known this hit from his ex-wife was coming sooner or later – better now than the week before a general election. And if you know the story, you can be sure that his ex would have paid ABC to carry this story, not the other way around. Pure hatred doesn’t need any monetary motivation.

She’s been waiting for over a decade for her chance to really hit him where it hurts, and he just handed it to her on a silver platter.

THIS is why I could *never* get behind the idea of a Newt candidacy, no matter how good he looks, no matter how many good things he said in the debates. THIS is why I have always thought this run was crazy – this issue is a time bomb that could be used anytime an opponent wants to destroy Newt in the eyes of a public that forgot about this.

Simple fact: Newt’s behavior towards *Both* of his ex-wives was monstrous and despicable, and paints a picture of an absurdly egocentric and heartless individual who will sacrifice anyone, no matter how close, for his own personal desires. Do not be fooled – Newt’s personal behavior at that time is indefensible, which is why all he can do is to try not to talk about it.

But Newt thought, what? That his ex, who he slimed, would keep quiet, would hold her peace? How big an idiot is he? Did he never talk to ANY of the other tens of millions of men who’ve got an angry ex out there, and who could have told him that this was coming as sure as the sun will rise tomorrow?

Newt’s ex hates him with the hate of a thousand burning stars, and she’ll be laughing about what she’s done til the day she dies. But she’ll be hoping he goes first, just so she gets the chance to spit on his grave.

Did *anyone* think that she would just stand by and let the woman who ruined her marriage end up as first lady? If this salvo doesn’t knock him out, then there will be more, and more, and more, until this is all anyone hears about. She’ll do everything she can to knock him out, because this is about Hatred and Revenge.

And she, finally, will have the Revenge for which she has longed! All the brilliant speeches and magnificent policy positions in the world can’t stop her.

THIS is why Newt should never have run.

I don’t know WWS. Two people chose to marry each other, both are responsible for the relationship. Why not let bygones be bygones and move on.

  3. Redteam says:

so true kathie, why would anyone listen to what an ex-spouse has to say about their ex? You think Newt’s views of those incidents would agree with his ex? The comments by Newt’s daughters may be the best insight.

  4. jan says:

When you think about it, though, Gingrich’s daughters are from his first marriage, the one that involved Marianna being the ‘other woman.’ Consequently, IMO, the daughters of his first marriage would not necessarily be totally objective about the claims being made by the woman who broke up that marriage.

Also, I think Gingrich’s daughters have reconciled with their father and are wrapped up in his candidacy, taking active roles in it. They have their own reasons not to want it to blow up in his face by agreeing with these accusations, whether they are true or not.

Lastly, I think it cowardly of Gingrich to put the task onto his daughters, rather than himself, to respond to his ex wife’s comments in her interview.

This sums up the view that many women will have about Newt Gingrich and his egregious marital history:

Jenny Sanford: I won’t vote for Newt Gingrich

“I think it will have an impact for some people,” Sanford said on “Hardball.” “I don’t know how much of an impact because people for the most part already knew that Gingrich you know was on his third wife. But I think that actually seeing one of his wives speak about him in an unflattering manner has got have an impact in some respect.”

  6. Redteam says:

Jan, you may be correct, but I suspect not entirely. For Every woman that says they won’t vote for Newt because of what he did is a woman that DID vote for Clinton because of what he did. In one man, he’s a Romeo, in the other, a cad. It’s all perspective.
Does it make it better or worse that in Newt’s case, his ex is making a big deal of it and in the case of Clinton, Hillary didn’t give a damn one way or the other, she just wanted the power and position. They had an open marriage because they both wanted it, Newt’s wife didn’t want one so she objected. I personally think married couples should be faithful to each other, but if they choose not to be, that’s their business. Why should we know any more about Newts marriage situation than we do obama’s and I haven’t seen a willing press digging into his past for any little dirt they can find.
So, is this enough against Newt that we should re-elect a socialist, communist to the office? I think not. If you learned that the Obama’s have an open marriage, would that keep you from voting for him? Just saying………..

    A reasoned response.

Should Gingrich be the nominee I will vote for him, because the goal is to replace Obama. I simply disrespect the man, not only for his personal treatment of past wives, but for his hubris in general. He is not my idea of presidential material.
