Fanatic Muslims Far From Brave

Published by at 7:27 am under All General Discussions,Bin Laden/GWOT

The news concerning the Taliban’s and Al Qaeda’s attempted spring offensive in Afghanistan and Pakistan is a story of a one sided war, where the terrorists poke their heads up and get slaughtered.   Yes, there are civilian casualties.  The Terrorists are infamous for killing people who they suspect do not unconditionally follow their leadership.  But it is also true these so called warriors of Islam are truly a bunch of cowards.  Unable to stand toe-to-toe with coalition forces, they hide behind the skirts of unarmed women and the toys of children:

Afghanistan, killing about 60 suspected Taliban militants and 16 civilians, an Afghan governor said Monday.

….

The new deaths brought the toll of militants, Afghan forces and coalition soldiers killed to more than 265 since Wednesday, when a storm of violence broke out in the south — among the deadliest combat in Afghanistan since the Taliban’s ouster in 2001.

…

U.S. military spokesman Col. Tom Collins said the coalition forces targeted a Taliban compound and “we’re certain we hit the right target.”

“It’s common that the enemy fights in close to civilians as a means to protect its own forces,” he added.

…

One man with blood smeared over his clothes and turban said insurgents had been hiding in an Islamic religious school, or madrassa, in the village after fierce fighting in recent days.

…

“Helicopters bombed the madrassa and some of the Taliban ran from there and into people’s homes. Then those homes were bombed,” said Haji Ikhlaf, 40. “I saw 35 to 40 dead Taliban and around 50 dead or wounded civilians.”

These people are all big and brave and full of talk until they have to wage a real war.  War is hell.  I have never been there but I don’t need a lot of imagination to understand the horrors of war.  These people want to kill anyone who disagrees with them, unless they are well armed and trained.  In that case they run and hide behind innocents.  Where is the honor in that?

Kind of off the topic of the Taliban but still on the WoT, I found a very interesting story today on the AP wire:

AMMAN, Jordan — Jordan said Monday it arrested an unidentified leader of the al-Qaida in Iraq militant group, blaming him for kidnapping and killing Jordanians and Arabs and robbing commercial trucks driving to and from Iraq.

The General Intelligence Department did not say when or where the suspected militant was taken into custody.

The department is known to be one of the most efficient security agencies in the Arab world. It coordinates closely and shares intelligence data with the United States, including U.S. forces in Iraq.

This is significant because after the bombings of the hotels in Jordan, there was a major reorganization of the intelligence operations there. Jordan vowed to go after Al Qaeda with all resources at their disposal and it appears that this effort is starting to bear fruit.

I hope this is the first of a long series of successful operations and I wish the Jordanian services “good hunting”.

    It is awful.

How is it that during World War Two, our media reported enemy casualties as a good thing? Oh, I know: back then, the media actually wanted the United States and its allies TO WIN.

    Go figure.
