More Immigrants To Punish!
** Folks, do I really need to write “sarcasm on”? Go to some sites raging against immigration and see where I got the ideas from! ***
Hey, someone tell Michael Savage that there are a whole bunch of criminals who need to be deported at gunpoint! They had the proper paperwork to work here, but due to some confusion the dates on the papers will go invalid (you know, like driving with an expired drivers license) and now all those people who want to perp-walk these dangerous criminals to the border have their chance!
Tens of thousands of Honduran and Nicaraguan immigrants nationwide risk losing their legal status in the United States today because they have not renewed their temporary work permits under a program to help victims of natural disasters, some in the mistaken belief that they will soon be on the path to becoming U.S. citizens.
With the deadline approaching by the end of today, about half the eligible applicants have yet to apply for renewal. They could lose their jobs and face deportation, jeopardizing the livelihoods of thousands of relatives here and in their homelands who depend on their salaries.
About 75,000 Hondurans and 4,000 Nicaraguans got the permits, issued under the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) Program, after Hurricane Mitch in 1998. The permits, if renewed, would allow them to live and work legally in the United States for another year.
Why don’t you zero-summers go get your shot guns, and round up these miscreants if the feds don’t do it? Why not go to the schools and yank the kids out of kindergarten? That way the parents won’t try to resist.
You can go to their jobs and get them too. It doesn’t matter that they had commitments to people to do something in those jobs. Any American’s who were relying on these people deserve what they get for hiring ‘illegals’! And why should you care that these people were victims of a natural disaster and lost everthing. You’d think they would have dealt with that by now!
This is a perfect time to show your humanity and compassion zero-summers. Go out and get these evil doers and make them pay!
And expect more commentary like this in the future. We could be looking at nightly re-runs of the Elian Gonzales story (who was an illegal alien – damn him) where all you folks who want deportation get to play Janet Reno and Bill Clinton. Won’t that be fun?
Retire05,
As usual you miss the boat. I was not trying to tug on your heart strings. I think these people have been here way too long. My guess is their home governments made a request because they cannot absorb them right now. But that is what neighbors do, they help out. Even if it is inconvenient to do so. You can decide helping out is below you. Not my problem.
Markman,
Thanks for the compliments. Every state (and region) has different issues with immigrants and different solutions. One thing is for sure, not allowing citizenship creates a permanent second class of people which cna cause lots and lots of problems. The reason the Muslim population in America is not as big a threat as the one in Europe is Muslims here are Americans (or can become Americans). They do not see America as ‘them’. Not so in Europe. Since the EU and America are largely Christian nations (at least the EU once was) Muslims come in through immigration.
Same thing happens with the language, etc. When there is a second class of citizen the wall themselves off. I find it interesting that most of the immigrants I meet here do not intend to stay. Most want to go back home at some point. So they do not seek citizenship. But we treat everyone the same pretty much when they are here. One of the great things about America.
Yes, it is very difficult along the border regions. And one reason why is the entire immigrant society is ‘underground’. When a social fabric is built on lawlessness, then there are no boundaries (as the Coyotes demonstrate). It is the reason the law enforcement side just won’t work. With 12 million here we would only drive them more underground. We need them up in the open for lots of reasons. Security is prime to me. We can either search out 12 million people in retribution, or we can entice 12 million people to come forward and be background checked as they become legal guest workers.
The ones who don’t come forward will be the problem group we need to deal with through deportation. Notice that through enticement the folks with nothing to hide separate themselves for us, leaving the bad apples and risks exposed. There are easy ways to do this and hard ways. We do not have the police force size to find and deport 12 million people, most of whom are doing nothing but working. If we try and use our security forces in this manner it will be as useless as frisking every airline, train and bus passenger as they get on board. It will actually expose us because we will be diverting are attention on a 12 million person problem space when we need to make sure 30-40 jihadists don’t get through our defenses.
There are lots of reasons why the House proposal (which makes working for a living a felony if you don’t have the proper papers) is so bad. Bad for security, bad for humanity and bad because it is based on a desire for retribution and punishment. Not to mention it won’t work.
