Time Exposes US Agent Inside Al Qaeda?
When will the news media stop their holy quest for the almighty dollar and just let our intelligence secrets stay secret? Want to give a life threatening tip to the terrorists? Well you start by leaking the fact we have agents inside their organization:
Conventional wisdom has long held that the U.S. has no human intelligence assets inside al Qaeda. “That is not true,” writes Suskind. Over the previous six months, U.S. agents had been receiving accurate tips from a man the writer identifies simply as “Ali,” a management-level al-Qaeda operative who believed his leaders had erred in attacking the U.S. directly.
If Ali is not safe, he is now probably dead.
And when asked about the Mubtakkar and the names of the men arrested in Saudi Arabia, Ali was aware of the plot. He identified the key man as Bin Laden’s top operative on the Arabian Peninsula, Yusuf al Ayeri, a.k.a. “Swift Sword,” who had been released days earlier by Saudi authorities, unaware that al-Ayeri was bin Laden’s point man in the kingdom.
Ali revealed that Ayeri had visited Ayman Zawahiri in January 2003, to inform him of a plot to attack the New York City subway system using cyanide gas.
Make that most definitely dead. And now a source is lost which could warn us about attacks like the one Time and Suskind have just divulged for sake of crude sensationalism. And not only that, they communicated key aspects of a very deadly terrorist weapon – enough for a lot of college grads to build a copy:
Fearing that al-Qaeda’s engineers had achieved the holy grail of terror R&D — a device to effectively distribute hydrogen-cyanide gas, which is deadly when inhaled — the CIA immediately set about building a prototype based on the captured design, which comprised two separate chambers for sodium cyanide and a stable source of hydrogen, such as hydrochloric acid. A seal between the two could be broken by a remote trigger, producing the gas for dispersal. The prototype confirmed their worst fears: “In the world of terrorist weaponry,” writes Suskind, “this was the equivalent of splitting the atom. Obtain a few widely available chemicals, and you could construct it with a trip to Home Depot – and then kill everyone in the store.”
Is there nothing these people will not to do for fame an money? And what is the motive behind this leak? In a bizarre moment of irony the CIA leak ponders the meaning of Saudi actions and a conspiracy theory:
Suskind quotes a CIA operative as questioning whether it was an accident that the Saudis had killed the kingpin who could expose a cell planning a chemical weapons attack inside the U.S.
Did Suskind ever question why this sensitive and dangerous information was being leaked to him? I am not so confused about a terrorist dying in a gun battle as I am about US citizens who lose their minds once they become ‘reporters’ and see nothing but the next big career making scoop. Why are we risking our lives for this idiots next Pulitzer? Why should people die because a key inside asset has possibly been exposed by these people? Who has to die before this insanity ends?

The only nontreasonous possiblity I can think of here is that the guy has been brought in from the cold, or died other than as a result of being caught, and the intelligence agencies determined it was worth the exposure – as a follow-up to the death of Zarqawi in Iraq – to sew some FUD (fear, uncertainty, and doubt) in the minds of the remaining Al Quaeda elite, hoping to either encourage others to come forward (if it can be quietly made known the guy is safe) or provoke panic and witchhunting among the dead-enders as they cease to trust each other. Could be….. But, that wouldn’t explain the details of the device being leaked. Naah, this is just more CIA/MSM treason.
If the method described in the Time article is used it’s just more proof of Bush’s incompetence and a reason for his impeachment. I used to think calling these politically motivated leakers toddlers and cry-babies was insulting- and it is- to the babies.
Let’s hope MacRanger’s Bang of a Summer includes taking this CIA source down.

Our news media quite simply does not care how many people are killed as a result of their reporting because they don’t think they will ever be held responsible for it. If they were to publish the exact blueprints for a bomb and all required components and chemicals listed and someone actually built one and set it off, they would blame the administration for it.
In fact, I wouldn’t put it past them to actually HOPE that someone does build such a thing and set it off because they seem willing to trade American lives for their political agenda.
Last week ABC news published not only the full name of a source that spoke to Jordanian intelligence, they published his full facial photograph. So not only is that man’s family probably dead, nobody is ever going to talk to Jordan again for fear their family will suffer the same fate.
The media seems bent on prolonging this thing because it apparently sells papers and keeps people glued to the TV. If Iraq goes away, they will be back to reporting shark bites. Our newspapers are sick cynical bastards in my opinion. The sooner they go out of business, the better.
There is no new great shakes info here, it is just a reporters heavy breathing to make it so.

A source there got out or got burned.
A bit of knowledge goes a long way.
But somehow a lot of stupidity goes even further.

If you were to eliminate all the outing stories from the MSM, would they have anything left to sell?
How many stories have they put forth that the blogs have torn to shreds?
Still we need a MSM if they do thier job right. Blogs are not original sources with a few exceptions. The MSM just needs to take the time and get it right. They need to report, not spin. They have the sources and contacts that could allow them to enlighten and sponsor reasonable debate. Their blatent political hack jobs do them no good and deminish thier credibility.
We need reporters, not spinners. Hopefully some of the MSM will wake up to this reality. The last thing we need is failure and demise of all the MSM, we don’t need to be put in the position of blind man pinata games.
We can hope and we can pray, but we also have to positon ourselves to watch our own backs.
Reality sucks, but there are few real alternatives.

My subscriptions are winding down. I won’t spend money again that might end in the hands of these twisters, spinners, and as you point out semi-traiters. But I will send money to Michael Yon, or Bill Roggio, or the others out there who provide first person insight. There are fabulous writers out there among the blogs that do deserve our support. Times are changing and MSM has forgotten the search for the “truth” and wandered into a self-referencial hall of mirrors. And that is the nicest thing I can say; another way to look at this is as treason pure and simple. The hatred of America, and therefore self-hate is very deep

That’s the first I’ve heard of Jon Messner. Is that all legit? Reading the hi-jacked message to bin Ladin, et. al., is a bit of a hassle — it has to be “back” clicked every few seconds — but well worth the tinkering.
Jon apparently didn’t realize that even terrorism threats and/or a chance to nail some really dangerous wackos, is not enough to shake loose a bit of initiative in a bureaucracy like the FBI. It’s actually a better shot to call in the local PD, so that the eventual call to the feds goes through channels and comes in top-down.
