Did Schumer Expose US Agent In Al Qaeda?
I saw this interesting item over at American Thinker which questions the timing of the Suskind/Times exposure of a US agent in the central core of Al Qaeda’s organization:
Is it just me, or does it seem beyond coincidental that the federal government reduces New York City’s Homeland Security budget, whereupon a NYC and al-Queda subway scare dominates the news?
Why else would anyone leak these critical national security details? And why would this happen on the very next day (a Sunday) the story breaks, as if timed as part of a PR campaing?
Schumer quoted security authorities, “both federal and local,” as saying the plan, set for 2003, was considered a valid threat.
“It came from a serious source. It was never corroborated, but it was certainly enough to be taken seriously, and law enforcement, including the Joint Terrorism Task Force, worked together, taking all the precautions,” Schumer said in a telephone interview.
Seems awefully convenient to me that Schumer had all these details at hand for an interview Sunday on a story that broke Saturday night! Indications are this is HIGHLY classified given the White House response:
FBI spokesman Bill Carter said the bureau would have no comment on the excerpted material. On Sunday’s CBS’ “Face the Nation,” White House press secretary spokesman Tony Snow said: “I don’t want to confirm or deny this particular story.”
We need to ask Chuckless what he knew and when. Here is how it should work. Only those on the national security committees with proper clearances would know about this threat, with the exception of local representatives (in this case Schumer, et al). So the list of people who knew is rather small. Which means the leaker is not well protected at all. For example, even the representatives would have all the details. If there is a tell tale detail that is out of place with those in the know, it is easy to clear the largest potential group of people – the investigators, and focus on those in Congress.
Hard to do when the RINOs like Specter join in with demands for more transparency in security processes. More and more people knowing just helps hide those who are totally unscrupulous.
Non-sentences for people like Berger, the hiding of the Barrett report, and protection for the likes of Jefferson don’t help either.
Is the best that we can hope for that Specter and Chucky will seriously hurt one another in their rush for the microphone?
What we really need is some really harsh penalties for leakers and wrongdoers. I vote for Rocky and his treasonous actions first!
Then we need to go after the earmarks of people like Stevens, Lott, Murtha, Lewis, etc.
I’ll take a deep breath, but one can dream, no?
I seem to recall that when Mary McCarthy was fingered, someone mentioned that there were “dozens of investigations” ongoing. Consider me one of may Americans standing with our arms crossed and foot tapping impatiently and we look to Washington waiting for something to be done about this.
I have already screamed at Shumer (speaking on TV) this morning about this. It is so obvious and I hope many bring the question up…
The dems are shameless and will keep losing.
If justice prevails in all these leak situations, it may not matter what happens in the November elections.
The may be a lot of newly vacant seats to fill by next summer, and a bunch of special elections to fill those seats.
The wheels of justice turn slow, but two other items that are totally of the radar as far as the MSM is concerned are the investigations into Refco and the Milberg-Weiss situation. Both make Jack Abermoff look like a rank beginner.
Ah we live in interesting times.
