A while back I posted on the fun we would have if Cheney did testify in the Libby trial and we saw Fitzgerald and Wilson and Grossman all attempting to challenge the sitting VP. Cheney is just not a push over, and all these lesser beings will not see their fantasy confrontations come true – they would probably see utter disaster as tried to defend the lies Wilson and Grossman perpetrated on the American people in hopes of cushy jobs in a Kerry administration.

Well it seems I may get my Fitzmas wish since Cheney has now publically stated he may testify at the trial:

Cheney made the comment in a CNN interview, following last month’s suggestion by prosecutors that the vice president would be a logical witness in the case of I. Lewis Libby, who is accused of perjury, obstruction and lying to the FBI.

Libby is “one of the finest men I’ve ever known,” Cheney said, then declined further comment. “I may be called as a witness.”

The media think this will be from a prosecutorial subpoena to testify and it may be, but I would not be at all surprised if Cheney is a defense witness who will come in and provide all the background (including how badly Wilson was lying and why the administration felt it had to tell the American people what really happened). Fitzgerald’s case hangs on a thread right now. Three of his witnesses apparently have severe credibility problems (Wilson, Grossman and Cooper), which have rocked his case to the core. The one person who did out Valerie Plame-Wilson is running around scott-free, making Fitzgerald’s ‘investigation’ a mockery of justice.

This may be another case of the watching what you wish for, because you just might get it!
