Build Me An Ark
The news out this morning is almost for the Duh! files if it wasn’t so close to home. The DC area was swamped by rains, which unfortunately drowned our sump pump and allowed a lake to begin forming in our basement (which is half finished andhalf unfinished). There is a cruel irony when your pump fails on a Sunday after which you spent most of the day running wires and setting up a poor-man;s home theatre in the basement to only sit down to enjoy your efforts and find the carpet soaked with water. Finding someone to fix the pump on a Sunday night in a region drowning in rains was of course impossible. One estimate for a time was for a week later.  While we were able to stem much of the tide by 2:00 AM, we have a decade’s worth of ‘stuf’ to clean up in the unfinished storage area while carpets dry and we see where to have buy new carpets. Gives me a real life lesson on what those people down in New Orleans and Mississippi an d Florida went through last year, and we came through with very little lost. Life does teach us lessons in humility constantly. I hope everyone has a good day, just for the sake of having one!
My son and I were going through DC when the storm happened.
We could see anything and were diving into huge puddles. IT was terrifying. And he is 22 and wouldn’t SLOW DOWN!
We went on the 12th street underpass from Mass AVE and barely made it. On the news today it seems that got fulled with water.
We were lucky.
AND the basement was filling up when I got home from a long flight.
It just never ends.
