Some Dems Now In Scandal Cross Hairs

Published by at 7:29 am under All General Discussions,Reid's Land Deals

Unlike the efforts to tar Dennis Hastert with the acts of Mark Foley, or to tar President Bush for the acts of Al Qaeda, the Democrats have some serious issues to face. And one of them is a long time in finally coming to a head. That would be what in the world was Sandy Bergler, sorry, Berger doing when he stole classified documents from the National Archives which pertained to the investigations into 9-11 and then took them to his office where he cut them up with scissors (all accidentally of course)? Well maybe now we will get more of the picture if Congress does perform an investigation.

The second scandal brewing is with Senate Minority Leader Reid’s fishy land deals and amazing profit windfalls. The man turned $400K into a cool $1.1M in a land deal he seems to have tried to hide from public scrutiny. Now I am not tarring all Democrats with these acts, unless they try and distract from the proper scrutiny these acts deserve.

Update:Ed Morrissey has done some digging and has made the case that the Reid transaction looks like a payoff in return for Reid assisting ‘the developer’ he bought the land from in getting help from the US Government to make tens of millions of dollars in real estate. The fact Reid is hiding the transaction from We The People while he worked diligently for years to help the developer make his profits is a clear ‘signal’ something is not kosher here. If the Dems are all about ‘signals’ of illegal behavior, Reid is lit up like Time Square at New Years Eve right now. He should step down.

High time. Needless to say the Democrats will flutter their eyelashes and say this is all a political stunt.

You got it Terrye: This was included in Reid’s statement on the scandal:

The statement concludes that GOP-funded sources “continue to make unfounded insinuations for partisan purposes.”

    Evil GOPrs anyway.
Even bullys hate to be bullied.

    HOW ROVE TWISTED FOLEY’S ARM:
It seems increasingly clear that the GOP congressional leadership, eager for every safe incumbent in the House to run for re-election, looked the other way as evidence accumulated that Mark Foley had a thing for pages. Holding onto his seat became more important than confronting him over his extracurricular activities.
But there’s more to the story of why Foley stood for re-election this year. Yesterday, a source close to Foley explained to THE NEW REPUBLIC that in early 2006 the congressman had all but decided to retire from the House and set up shop on K Street. “Mark’s a friend of mine,” says this source. “He told me, ‘I’m thinking about getting out of it and becoming a lobbyist.'”
But when Foley’s friend saw the Congressman again this spring, something had changed. To the source’s surprise, Foley told him he would indeed be standing for re-election. What happened? Karl Rove intervened.
According to the source, Foley said he was being pressured by “the White House and Rove gang,” who insisted that Foley run. If he didn’t, Foley was told, it might impact his lobbying career.
“He said, ‘The White House made it very clear I have to run,'” explains Foley’s friend, adding that Foley told him that the White House promised that if Foley served for two more years it would “enhance his success” as a lobbyist. “I said, ‘I thought you wanted out of this?’ And he said, ‘I do, but they’re scared of losing the House and the thought of two years of Congressional hearings, so I have two more years of duty.'”
The White House declined a request for comment on the matter, but obviously the plan hasn’t worked out quite as Rove hoped it would.

On the other side of the Florida street the Dems leaned on Bill Nelson (D) to run again. He was ready to retire to his home but they persuaded him to run for another term.

Also in the background, Judicial Watch is asking the Justice Department to re-open the Clinton pardon investigations.

    Per Captain’s Quarters:

“Harry Reid, stung by the AP’s exposure of his complicated land deals with a lobbyist he helped make rich through his personal interventions in Congress, has told the Senate Ethics Committee that he will file amended disclosure statements that would reveal his business relationships for the first time. Reid claims the amendment would be “technical”:

    …..

    BULLCRAP HARRY!!! RESIGN NOW!!

Is that what the call a “do over”?

  11. Limerick says:

RCP Blog today has three entries asking the MSM why they aren’t covering the Reid real estate story. I have a feeling that Mr. Reid will be unavailable for the Sunday news shows.

  12. Sex and Money Scandals or National Security…

Does this mean that Harry boys indiscretions should cast a light on the whole Democratic party? In light of how adamantly the Democrats have postured about investigating Hastert for Foley’s emails and instant messages, the answer would be yes. Silly i…

Nothing will happen to this crook. He will do nothing while the media reports nothing. We will eventually drop the matter and it will fade from sight. This is the way the dems work things. They only accuse the republicans of the things they have already done and are doing.
How else would they know what to accuse since what they accuse are mental abberations otherwise?
