More On The Steele Earthquake In MD
I don’t think the Democrats appreciate the damn that just broke on them in MD. While everyone is focused on Foley and Iraq, the Democrats’ most stalwart base just defected. And this will not be a one time, one place phenomena. The democrats have always been all talk. And now the black voter is tired of listening to the same old white song and dance:
“The [Democratic] Party acts as though when they want our opinion, they’ll give it to us. It’s not going to be like that anymore,” said Mr. Curry, who in 1994 became the county’s first black executive and remains influential in the mostly black and heavily Democratic county.
Mr. Curry and the lawmakers said Democratic leaders repeatedly have snubbed the black community and their county, noting the lack of party support for the Senate campaign of former National Association for the Advancement of Colored People chief Kweisi Mfume, who lost the Democratic primary to Rep. Benjamin L. Cardin.
The Democratic ticket lacks black candidates, they said, and candidates from Prince George’s County, which is home to more than 320,000 registered Democrats — the most of any jurisdiction in Maryland.
“We’re not puppets. We’re not gullible,” Mr. Curry said during a press conference at the Infusion Tea Cafe in Largo. “This ain’t the first time we’ve charged up a hill.”
…
“There’s a revolution going on here,” said Jerry McLaurin, a county developer and Steele supporter who attended the announcement. “This is going to radiate throughout the county like an explosion.”
…
“We were in the Democratic Party while they were lynching black folks. We were in the Democratic Party while they were segregating folks,” Mr. Dean said. “We have been loyal Democrats, [but] when the party has an opportunity to do something to show that their base is recognized, appreciated and acknowledged, they don’t.”
“The issue is what we want not only from the state party but from the national party,” he said. “Give us respect. We cannot continue to be in the room but not allowed to come to the table. What we are doing now is saying, ‘Forget it. We are not going to wait for you to bring us to the table. We are going to not only get to the table, we are going to take it.’ “
There are decades of pent up frustration boiling over here. I live and work with these good folks and they deserve Michael Steele. They earned him. And they will never listen to a Democrat tell them to vote Democrat again in the same way. The House may or may not go Democrat this year. But the black voter just became a free person, untied from any and all parties. My first post on this news is here.
Steele Bullet…
Stick a fork in the Maryland senate race:
You can stick a fork in the Maryland senate race:
“A coalition of black Democratic political leaders from Prince George’s County led by former county executive Wayne K. Curry endorsed Republican Mic…
You know this had to happen sooner or later.
Tidal wave?
Democrat or Republican?
Stay tuned.
And watch for the Democrat turnout to be * suppressed * because the media has convinced them that they already have this election won. Your average Joe Democrat will not be motivated to make it to the polling place, find parking, wait in line, etc. if they think “heck, CNN said we have all the votes, probably don’t need mine!”. Whether or not the Republican turnout is suppressed remains to be seen. It will all depend on the GOTV efforts…
I am so proud of my former neighbors in PG County. Welcome and God Bless you all. This is a county of many good and hardworking people who deserve a leader like Michael Steele. A leader who will not take them for granted. The burgeoning African American Upper and Middle class is well and large in PG County. This is big step to taking the County back.
Most, if not all, of my Republican friends who earlier in the year declared they would sit this one out, have changed their minds. Yesterday, however, I did talk to the first Republicans I know who plan to vote for a Democrat at the national level next week. My neighbor and his wife, both life-long Republicans, are fed up with our efforts in Iraq, and plan to vote for the Donk Congressional candidate in our district. I told them they needn’t bother as my wife and I would cancel out their votes, heh, heh.
I’ve voted in every national election since 1966, and I can’t remember one that was more important than this one.
Well, the Rove strategy was to get Hispanic votes by suppressing
“nativist” GOP candidates, denying them party funding . With
disastrous results for America.
So far the black middle class ( is it growing faster than the
poverty class?) votes dominantly Democratic liberal. Let’s hope
reparations advocacy and affirmative action don’t follow on the
heels of ridding the South of its symbolic heritage by GOP
big business hiararchy.
I think Steele wins in MD.
The HTML has gone screwy again, though…
I saw Steele on Meet the Press this weekend. His faux outrage about the comments of his foe were hilarious.
It’s about time black and whites came together to support a clown like Michael Steele.
Say it’s true. If Steele withstands that disgusting Congressional Black Caucas, stands as his own man, he will be the leader that leads many blacks to true freedom of choice. About time.
The Dems set them up for herd mentality. Patted them on the head and no real power. Bush gave 2 blacks the power of Cabinet positions. Finalllllly someone noticed they have been taken on a long ride. About time.
Constituencies change over time. The GOP will do much better by aligning with our fellow citizens that strive to improve their lot rather than catering to illegal aliens and their partners in crime.
The anti-OpenBorder constituency (mostly pro-legal immigration) is one that is mainly GOP base but captures a huge chunk of the poorer population and middle class blacks as well as non government union people.
The successful GOP candidate in 2008 will pull these citizens together in a positive way. The blacks supporting Steele have seen what unregulated immigration does to wages and job prospects in MD. It is a big part of the equation as endorsements are made.
This began when Kathleen Kennedy Townsend picked a white running mate and then did the usual shtick of showing up in Black neighborhoods on the eve of the election.
Ehrlich picked Steele and won.
Both men are admirable and deserve our support.
Actually, I think the GOP is about to replace a lot of it’s zampolit wing – the real story behind the GOTV machine the RNC has developed is because it removes the GOP’s reliance on outside groups.
Michael Steele is another Rubber Stamp for the this facist GOP regime. I’m sure the black voters in Ohio appreciated all the hard work Steel did for them in the last election. He was a real civil rights champion. This is his cut for stealing the 2004 election. So I’m sure he’ll win one way or another.
But don’t let facts get in the way of making an informed decision.
dhill,
I detect the smell of absolute fear in you! Good.
AJ
I am afraid that isn’t fear you smell but….
;>)
Poor dhil can’t tell the difference between Steele R-MD and Blackwell R-OH –
But don’t let facts get in the way of making an informed decision.
Don’t ya just love it when someone who has their facts all screwed up (mistaking Steele for Blackwell) makes a statement like this. LOL.
DHILL, there’s an old saying that applies to people like you:
Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.
As a white woman from the West (WWW), I have been perplexed at why African Americans, in general, believe the crap that has been fed them from the Jesse Jacksons to the Sharptens(sp?) It is only obvious how the libs, especially the Clintons, tell them what they want to hear just for their vote. The Democratic agenda is designed to suppress and control them and make them think they are victims instead of inspiring, lifting and motivating.
Hopefully now with strong leadership telling the truth to a community prepared to hear it, this will be a movement that will grow quickly. Break that base. It also explains why the Dems are so enthusiastic and supportive of illegal immigrants. When their African American base crumbles they will need to replace it with a different race. They are definately threatened by strong leadership.
I respect any one from any race that steps forward and takes a stand and leads. African Americans will have more support and encouragement from conservative Republicans than they would have ever thought possible. Onward and upward…
