Ahmadinejad’s Latest Troubles
I suppose that old saw “when it rains, it pours” is an apt description of the problems facing the Iranian president these days. A strategic level military leader has apparently fled the country with his family, he is under renewed attack from his political opposition for his handling of the economy, the teachers are striking demonstrating, the meeting with the King of Saudi Arabia apparently went badly and now we have news that he has possibly alienated the Syrians and the alliance with Syria could be under some strain. None of the items individually are show-stoppers but taken together they are a telling commentary of a government that appears to be coming apart at the seams.
It certainly appears that Iran has picked a rank amateur as their executive of government policy and he is in danger of destroying everything the previous Iranian administrations have built over the years. Hezbollah in Lebanon probably has a few more years of rebuilding to do just to get their infrastructure South of Beirut back to where it was before the war with Israel, and for what gain? Relations are strained with Iran’s Arab neighbors to an extent not seen in modern times. Support for Shiite death squads in Iraq has alienated the Sunni population from Iran. Everywhere I turn I see another mistake by Ahmadinejad. He can’t seem to get out of his own way. Add to all of this Iran’s inability to pay for nuclear infrastructure work by the Russians and you see a country going in reverse.
At some point the clearer heads will prevail and Ahmadinejad will be removed from power. At this rate I am hoping that happens later rather than sooner. Our secret weapon might be sitting tight and letting Ahmadinejad run the country into the ground himself.
Won’t get solved in the newspapers. And, I doubt if anyone will call on the elites from the universities for their 2-cents, either.
Actually, it’s not just this guy in a dinner jacket; it’s what went on when he went into the Saud’s tent in Riyhad, and decided to leave at midnight. Without putting his head on one of their pillows. It was the departure that spelled trouble.
While the Sauds “want” a nuke, and this moron supposedly has them.
Go ahead. Believe what you want to believe.
While the “tidbit” hidden away; is that the #1 spook in Iran has “disappeared.” He went to Turkey. But he didn’t go home FROM Turkey. And, there’s some guesswork, if he’s not dead, then he’s “halping” Bush. Which is good news.
The other good news? Because state and pentagon are both leaky vessels into the NY Times, there’s a bit of secrecy going on.
And, we’re making advances in Iraq, too.
Probably this is how foreign wars should be fought. The media is no “halp.” Though how Walter Reed got to be the mess it was, is also hard to believe. What happens once you put a career opportunist in a swivel chair in the pentagon, I have no idea.
But where there’s disgrace, there’s plenty of it to go around.
Bush? He just has to hold tight for the next two or three weeks, and all the fake hoopla that went on over Libby will die down.
