The War Front In Diyala

Published by at 6:00 pm under All General Discussions,Diyala,Iraq

Those of us watching Iraq know the last battle will be in Diyala. So does al Qaeda. And just as the Battle of the Bulge in WWII was a last desperate push by the Nazi to try and avoid their final defeat, it is no surprise al Qaeda will try the same thing to try and break the will of the US and Iraqi forces:

Roadside bombs killed eight American soldiers in three attacks Sunday in Diyala province and Baghdad, and a car bomb claimed 30 lives in a wholesale food market in a part of the Iraqi capital where sectarian tensions are on the rise.

This IS NOT sectarian violence – it is the jihadists attacking the moderate Muslims. It is the civil war we need so Muslims decide whether they are going to be for peace or bloody annihilation. We will see these days. But we will also see more days where we nail al Qaeda – as long as the Surrendercrats don’t get a chance to hand Bin Laden his win.

    McClatchy newspapers says:

BAGHDAD, Iraq – The U.S. military announced the deaths of 11 U.S. soldiers killed in combat along with an embedded journalist Sunday, and Iraqi officials said 163 civilians were killed or injured across the country.

But still more carnage is likely over the next three months as additional U.S. forces arrive in Baghdad under President Bush’s troop “surge” because “we’re taking the fight to the enemy,” a top U.S. military commander warned.

So yes, as we get aggressive and turn up the heat on these animals and go after them where they live, our casualties are going to go up. Iraqi police and Army are paying an even higher price. Their casualties doubled last month. Over 500 police and IA were killed in April.

So be ready for the higher numbers because it is a direct consequence of being more aggressive against the murderers. It is to be expect. Our troops are aware of this and believe it is worth the price. It is already paying dividends in the high-value targets that are being taken out.

A change in tone from the LA Times?

    ‘Tipping point’ seen

Together with the 4,500 police officers recruited in Ramadi since last May, the members of the Provincial Security Force, or PSF, have helped effect an improvement in security that has seen attacks on U.S. forces plummet and a surge in discoveries of insurgents’ weapons and munitions caches. U.S. military officers now talk of a “tipping point” in the three-year battle in Ramadi that has left much of this city in ruins.

A lead collected by Sahed’s crew recently was a case in point. After an attack on a coalition Humvee cost a GI his legs, the group fanned out in Al Tash. The tip soon led them to a “stranger” who had a 155-millimeter artillery shell in his house and said, “Don’t worry, I’m using it against the Americans, not you.”

Sahed’s commander, Maj. Sabaa Yusef Ju, arrested him on the spot.

I thought I would never see the LA Times print the words “Tipping Point” in a context of it being in our favor.
