Public Gives Cold Shoulder To Global Warming, Focused On Economy And Terrorism
President Obama and the Democrat Congress have a lot of challenges ahead of them – none of which they seem interested on taking on in a serious manner. Pew has just come out with a new poll which puts the beloved economically crippling concept of Global Warming dead last on the list of national priorities:
The top items – Economy, Jobs and Terrorism – are the Dems’ and Liberal Left’s weakest subjects. In fact, one would wonder why Obama spent his initial political capitol sending hopeful signals to terrorists instead of defending tax cuts and rebuilding our bruised economy.
Two things stand out here. First, terrorism has not gone away as top concern, just as the desire and intent of terrorists to kill as many of us as possible has not dissipated. The problem with Obama’s actions to date is he is sending signs to terrorists that this administration will bend over backwards to avoid a conflict. Basically a big green light signal to these killers to hit now to throw us off balance again.
Secondly, the economy is not going to recover unless the government stops messing with it. We need to repeal all those dodgy rules for risky loans. But moreover we need to reduce the drain of government on the markets and free up the consumers’ cash flow so they can start spending and investing again. Nothing I have seen from the current Democrat plans does anything but make the situation worse. Which means there are going to be a lot of disappointed people when their top priorities are not answered.
This combination of these two forces could be devastating. If al Qaeda finally musters the ability to actually successfully attack us, the doubts about the Democrats will blossom as America’s faith in them crashes. I would prefer not to see this happen, but it would help if the Democrats and President Obama would take steps to avoid this perfect storm, instead of laying the ground work for such a disaster to come about.
I couldn’t agree with you more AJ. And did you hear what came from the Saudi’s today to Obama. Fix the Israel/Palestine problem now or there will be consequences to pay. The Saudi’s have put forth a plan that Israel will never accept. Borrowing from the Chinese and the Saudi’s is a really bad idea.
but global waming is going to cost us all real $$$ because the envir-extremists are like the power steering belt that has your attention even though your driving down the highway on a moon-less night without headlights in a blizzard in the middle of a sparsely-populated rural area. The enviro’s have the poliical attention even if they’re aren’t the most important thing! We’re all going to pay for that when legislation like this get passed.
I agree with bgroicahn, the fact that global warming isn’t important to the citizenry won’t make any difference to the pols in Washington who clearly see it as their tool to increase their dominion over the private sector. Congress critters get money from businesses who see the possibility of profits from the scam, while simultaneously garnering contributions from those who want protection from the measures they vote on. It’s truly a win-win; money from both sides of the issue, and more power no matter which way they vote.
I believe that it will take some time before our enemies will be able to hit us directly again. Our ex-President did give them a bloody nose in Iraq by forcing a strategic retreat. We are continuing to hurt them in Afghanistan and Pakistan. We do need an additional front to contain any resources our enemy may have shifted away from Iraq.
Our current strategy is to play good defense. Given a few years, we can expect to see how well we can take a hit.
AJ:
“The top items – Economy, Jobs and Terrorism – are the Dems’ and Liberal Left’s weakest subjects.”
Hmm. Let’s do some fact-checking.
Economy:
Clinton leaves office 2001, $128B surplus
Bush leaves office 2009, $357B deficit
Jobs:
Millions of Jobs Added (Source: Bureau of Labor Statistics)
Clinton 1993 – 1996 11.6
Clinton 1997 – 2000 11.5
Bush 2001 – 2004 (0.1)
Bush 2005 – 2008 5.1
Terrorism:
Number of catastrophic terrorist attacks on U.S. soil, 1992-2000: 0
Number of catastrophic terrorist attacks on U.S. soil, 2001-2008: 1
So, not a single statistic supports your position. Gee, how shocking.
GuyFawkes, I think you are cherry picking information. Why not compare Carter to Reagan? Or, why not compare Clinton before and after the Republicans took control of Congress vs Bush before and after Democrats took control of Congress?

I think AJ is right. Based on the concerns of the American people….there is a perfect storm brewing.
Let me get this straight: you pull out an article from April 2007 – before the recession started – and *I* am the one “cherry picking information”?
Pot, please meet kettle.
[…] has not taken Obama long to destroy the image of hope and change he presented the American People. As Pew just noted yesterday the top issues for this country – per the voters – is the Economy, Jobs and Terrorism. To date all […]
GuyFawkes, exactly. I picked a random article to prove a point. But, if you want to start with when the recession began, fine with me….look to Franks(D) and Dodd(D) and Fannie and Freddie.
It is interesting to me that, with the exception of social security, as relates the top four concerns that the people have now, Bush delivered in spades. Up until the government-engineered credit crisis, jobs were created, and the economy recovered from the devastation of 9-11. The country was free from attack, largely, I believe, because of our willingness to go stand and shed blood in Iraq, obliterating the reason we were attacked to begin with-pre-Bush we had acted like a paper tiger.
It’s also interesting that tax cuts fall pretty low on the list, when this is the mechanism by which the economy was revived. This is why we must recapture the reins of public education, and do everything we can to dispel the economic drivel emanating from the MSM.
