Mainstream Liberal Media Went “All In” With Obama

Published by at 7:41 am under Measuring The Recovery

One thing people will not tolerate is being given bad advise. Especially if that advise hurts them financially, or hurts someone they care for. And the liberal mainstream media, who sold the liberals Obama, Pelosi and Reid, have the potential to finally go down with these failures. You can see the Democrats losing the middle of America as their failed policies on the economy keeping grinding forward with no sign of hope in site:

But the slide was much more pronounced among self-identified purely independent voters — that is, Americans who express no loyalty to either party.

Among these people, who tend to reside in the middle of the ideological spectrum, the president’s job-approval rating fell to 45% from 60% in April.

In particular, the survey suggests, independents are developing gnawing fears about government spending. They are markedly more worried about the federal budget deficit as an economic issue than are Americans in general, and they are more likely to be skeptical of Mr. Obama’s plan for a health-care overhaul.

The measure of any President’s economic success is primarily unemployment, which is going to grind ever worse through out this summer and into the fall (as I predicted it would months ago). When people look at the massive deficits and without any results they begin to realize they were sold a bill of goods. There will be no recovery because there is no stimulus money leaving the government for those so called ‘shovel ready’ jobs. My bi-monthly check on 6 government entities (see links above) shows 99% of the money stuck in the bowels of the federal bureaucratic process, not likely to emerge for months.

And people are starting to realize the dems have failed:

Despite signs that the recession gripping the nation’s economy may be easing, the unemployment rate is projected to continue rising for another year before topping out in double digits, a prospect that threatens to slow growth, increase poverty and further complicate the Obama administration’s message of optimism about the economic outlook.

I mean, this paragraph is a joke! Yeah, its hard to send a message of optimism on the economy when your policies are failing to fix the problems! Complicate? It’s not that complicated – the liberal economic experiment of government stimulus through spending has FAILED!

And I can see why, after touting the great President Obama and his hopeful change, that the news media is getting the cold shoulder from America:

TVNewser has learned the CBS Evening News has once again set an all-time low last week with 4.89 million Total Viewers and 1.42 million A25-54 viewers. But it was also the lowest (since records began in the 1991-’92 season) for ABC’s World News with Charles Gibson. The Gibson program drew 6.42 million Total Viewers and 1.77 million A25-54 viewers.

Both CBS’s Katie Couric and ABC’s Charlie Gibson were off last week.

These liberal media outlets sold America a promise, and that promise not only has not been kept, it cannot be kept. The idea of the bloated federal  bureaucracy being nimble enough to fend off a tough recession was a naive fantasy. Now it is a proven myth. And the dems and their champions will pay a heavy price for this bad advise, these failed promises, this broken economy. They will pay for the pain and suffering they caused in their ineptitude.

From your blog to God’s ears. The problem is the media and its enablers still make a disproportionate amount of noise thus muddying up the minds of those not willing to challange what they hear. For God’s sake people actually get their opinions from the View and Daily Show and still look to the morons in Hollywood for how to be happy.

AJ, I hope they DO pay. But I fear they won’t.

In the end, it is the American people, and even more the American military, that will do the paying. And I fear that the toll will be payable not just in gold, but in blood.

    Faster.

Andy McCarthy has nailed another good one at NRO, “Negotiating with terrorists”. This speaks to the military and the blood. This is why the MSM is so important. Just think what would happen if the American public actually understood this. The Silence. The Weenie Diplomacy would not stand.

Ok, so we get this huge new tax on tobacco products. As a result, demand for the products drops and a plant going since 1902 closes costing nearly 500 jobs, some who have worked there for decades. Now the government is out tax revenue from payroll tax *and* the tax from the cigars that are no longer being made. Plus government now needs to pay unemployment benefits to people IT put out of work.

This is a typical example of liberal idealistic tunnel vision where they want to use government to “mommy” people into not doing things that are “bad” for them yet fail to see the bigger picture of how their policies will damage communities and the government itself.

So rather than having some percentage of something; some revenue from cigar sales to use for education against smoking; they now have 100% of nothing, have to pay out benefits, and have spawned a black-market in cigars that have not had the proper taxes paid on them. The Mob now has a new industry selling black market cigars.

    AJ,

Wow – a drop in the presidential approval rating 6 months after taking office and inheriting the worst recession since the 1930’s. Who would ever have thought that to be possible?

Oh wait, I know who could have predicted it – anyone who knows anything about history. Here is a chart that shows presidential approval ratings from 1945 to 2008. http://online.wsj.com/public/resources/documents/info-presapp0605-31.html

It shows that almost every president experienced a drop in their approval rating during the first year of their presidency. Reagan, who also inherited a recession, had a steady decline in his approval rating until right around 1983 when the economy finally stabilized and started improving (yes that’s right, 1983, 3 years after taking office).

So, according to your rules AJ, all of these presidents were failures because their approval ratings decreased after 6 months in office. And since Obama is a failure because he has been unable to correct the worst recession since the 1930’s in 6 months, President Reagan in particular was a failure because it took him 3 whole years to correct a less severe recession. That’s weird, I thought you liked Reagan?

    Conman,

Your usually pathetic math skills I see are still pathetic. The article notes a 15% drop among independents – 25% of his prior support level.

But if that doesn’t bother you, why would I worry?

    LOL!

The biggest problem I see for Obama is that he is a poser. He said he would be one thing; but, turned out to be another. That matters to Independents. And, Libertarians who crossed over to the Dems in 2006 and 2008 ar not getting what they thought they were going to get either. If Obama can’t keep approval among independents and libertarians….he will have problems.

  11. conman says:

    AJ,

My math skills are pathetic? Maybe you can explain how Reagan’s approval rating steadily declined from 60 percent in 1981 to 40 percent in 1983 without a significant drop in his prior support level? Let me answer for you – you can’t! Reagan saw a particularly significant drop in the support level among moderate Democrats and independents, the groups that were key to his election in 1980. In fact, that is what happens every single time a president’s approval rating drops – it drops the fastest among the moderates and independents because they are the least loyal to the president.

So let me try and dumb this down as much as possible so you understand the point. Almost every president experiences a significant loss in support during the first year, in particular among the moderate/independents. Like Reagan, presidents that inherit recessions experience an even longer trend of loss in support because it takes time to recover from a recession regardless of what policies the president implements. Until they invent magic wands, you can’t fix the enormous economic mess Bush passed along overnight.

So no, I’m not worried that Obama has seen a drop in support among independents after 6 months because I’ve been fully expecting it regardless of how he performed. That’s because I actually consider history and every single economist who has been predicting since the recession hit full force that we won’t see the economy start to stabilize until 2010. The only thing that matters is what the economy looks like at the end of 2010/beginning 2011. That is how Obama’s p[erformance on the economy will be judge.
