Americans Have Succeeded Without Rationing Health Care
For some reason the rich who work at NY Times are all upset about the cost of other people’s health care:
You have advanced kidney cancer. It will kill you, probably in the next year or two. A drug called Sutent slows the spread of the cancer and may give you an extra six months, but at a cost of $54,000. Is a few more months worth that much?
If you can afford it, you probably would pay that much, or more, to live longer, even if your quality of life wasn’t going to be good. But suppose it’s not you with the cancer but a stranger covered by your health-insurance fund. If the insurer provides this man — and everyone else like him — with Sutent, your premiums will increase. Do you still think the drug is a good value? Suppose the treatment cost a million dollars. Would it be worth it then? Ten million? Is there any limit to how much you would want your insurer to pay for a drug that adds six months to someone’s life? If there is any point at which you say, “No, an extra six months isn’t worth that much,†then you think that health care should be rationed.
So far this country has thrived without ever having to ration health care under government control. And that is the difference between what this fool is babbling about and reality. As with everything else in this country, the only limits on how well you live are your own personal choices. Drop out of school, get a low paying career, you pay the consequences.
But now the liberals in DC want to take THAT choice from you. You have worked your entire life, paid thousands in taxes which would be millions in a retirement fund and the government denies you $50 at the end of it all?
Eff you! I have a plan. If you have been living high on the hog your entire life you should sacrifice ALL to those who have struggled. You want to go all in on this socialists nonsense then let’s do it right. We will begin by control the wages and benefits of the political industrial complex. They have been reaping the most rewards while screwing things up the most.
I suggest any media outlet that needs government bailout money become completely owned by the taxpayers. All the owners must walk away, all the workers go on GS schedule salaries, no grandfathering. Take the cut or take a hike.
If you want to play this game, then let’s play! I am upper middle class. I would be happy to see everyone richer than me give to all those poorer than me!
And who cares if you are dying, the least you could do is cough up all your ill gotten gain and give it to those who need it the most. Fools.
Any body who believes that the cost of health care is going down or that the quality will not suffer is just kidding themselves. Obama is a lier and he has to know it. There is no way. Hospitals will go under, doctors will move to countries who appreciate their worth. And the discoverers of new technology will pack their bags. If I’m going to suffer, I want it to be my choice, not Obama’s.
Why would anybody put the government in the privileged position of deciding what your health is worth. It is beyond comprehension.
If there are uninsured who can’t afford insurance, give them a check to get themselves insured. The government requires that insurance companies insure for everything under the sun, why not require them to carry people with preexisting conditions. Make people buy their own insurance and not get it through an employer and give a tax deduction for buying it. Then people can ask for a raise in place of insurance. There are hundreds of ways to get people insured other then the government.
I’m beginning to detest this government! Maybe the plan is to give each person equality in insurance. That is the Canadian philosophy, no one should have an opportunity that another doesn’t have. Tell that to Teddy Kennedy. Why at his age should he have a brain operation so he can live a few more months? Please!
Let me direct the question the Times asked back to it’s author. If a drug could give their loved ones an additional six months of life, would they take it? It seems the author of this piece would rather save money than spend a few more months with their loved ones.
This rationale, along with Obama’s statements, remind me of “social darwinism” of the 19th to the mid 20th centuries… only the strong and fit should survive. I thought we as a species had advanced past this concept.
I just received one of those fwd, fwd fwd things that appears to be an AP story, confirmed by Snopes, which says that Americans for Freedom of Information has succeeded in obtaining Obama’s records form Occidental U which reveal he applied for and recieved a Fullbright Scholarship designated for foreign students using the name Barry Sortero, and said he was from Indonesia.
At the very least he is guilty of filing for this scholarship under false pretenses, which is considered a felony in some areas. It also raises the question of whether he renounced his Indonesian citizenship and reapplied for Citizenship in the US.
This artile also says Obama has spent $950,000 with 11 law firms to block disclosure of his records. Now if someone would just get a copy of that passport he used to go to Pakistan when US citizens were barred from going there we might find out he has committed more criminal acts. Sounds like we are getting close to grounds for Impeachment if not downright declaring him inelligible.

lurker9876, the answer is YES. If Obama is frog-marched out of the Oval Office for defrauding the American electorate, the entire Democrat party is tainted.
In fact, I could make a good case for suing EVERY Dem elected in 2008 out of office…because all of them profited electorally from the deceit.
And yes, I do think there is something suspicious. But it needs to be nailed down incontrovertibly before being used. Nailed, bolted, epoxied, and welded.

The Republicans should create new YouTube videos showing that Obama is a disciple of Alinksy. This will reduce the chances of Hillary’s run in 2012 as we know that she is also a disciple of Alinksy.

That soldier whose deployment order revoked may be the beginning IF more soldiers decide to challenge Obama in new lawsuits.
Orly Taitz has no problems defending more soldiers as she wants Obama to prove his birthright with the correct birth certificate. But that should not be enough. Obama needs to release all of the information about his college education.

Every old, disabled or sick person should be terrified. When you have guts/gall enough to tell a woman to her face in a Oval Infomercial that her mother might would have been offered the least expensive treatment of meds instead of surgery?
