Mark Warner (D) Moderates Nicely
Mark Warner, soon to be ex-Governor of my home state of Virginia, has done a rare thing for a nationally recognized Democrat: he has made sense regarding Iraq. He has come out supporting Bush in no uncertain terms:
The United States needs to set milestones for progress, not a firm withdrawal date, before it can leave Iraq, Virginia governor and prospective Democratic presidential candidate Mark Warner said on Monday.
“This Democrat doesn’t think we need to re-fight how we got into (the Iraq war). I think we need to focus more on how to finish it,” Warner said.
OK, this kind of position can win you the Presidency in 2008. I am 100% against Warner right now, but if he keeps talking like this I will have to change my position.
Warner is a social liberal at heart – he loves tax increases. But the war on terror can trump taxes in some situations. The Republicans need to watch and learn.
