WWS fails to mention the WSJ also failed to predict a long-term
resilient insurgency in Iraq and agreed with Rumsfeld on the small troops force adequacy. Good company for AJ.

Soothie -- it's obvious Strata approves of the kind of US
"push-push" in Pakistan that has led to the kind of love for it and stability prevailing in Iraq . Pakis, like Iraqis dissent.

It's not even a setback - the WaPo has published an analysis that agrees on almost every point with everything AJ has been writing for years now.

That's why Sooth has nothing but pathetic whining to add - Hey Sooth, go sing a few verses of God D*** America to your Obama poster, it will cheer you up.

The desire for a homeland points out the fundamental difference between the Taliban and Al Qaeda. The Taliban is based on the large Pashtun tribe which inhabits northern Pakistan and southern Afghanistan. (The various Waziri tribes are simply Pashtun subsets)

Not all Pashtun are Taliban, but virtually all Taliban are Pashtun. If a fighter comes from some other area (chechen, turkmen, arab) he will identify and answer to Al Qaeda rather than the Taliban. The Pashtun feel that they have a historical grievance in that their "homeland" got carved in half by Great Britain, as the line between Afghanistan and Pakistan runs squarely through the middle of the Pashtun land. This explains why the border is so porous and difficult to control - it is a line imposed by a Western power that the local residents have never recognized or accepted.

The Pashtun have always lusted after the "Pashtunistan" that they feel they were deprived of, and that is what the Taliban interviewed here are talking about. Of course, they also feel that it's their "right" to dominate all of the smaller tribes that make up the rest of Pakistan and Afghanistan, so it's a good thing for everyone to work to stop the Pashtun from getting what they want.
