Is There A Backlash Brewing Against DC’s Liberals

Published by at 9:07 am under All General Discussions

Did the liberal dinosaurs Congress, in a fit of power drunken madness, over reach? Was our liberal leaning, young and naive President caught up in a liberal policy madness that has proven to be more of a disaster than many would have even thought possible?

To many people, the answer is obvious given how poorly the government run stimulus is working out (verses all economic incentive based stimulus packages proven over and over again since Kennedy and up to President Bush after 9-11). Clearly America’s economy is still sinking, as the ponderous government bureaucracy creaks through its endless rules and regulations, pondering how to legally spend the job creating stimulus funds.

It should have it all worked out by next spring – as I predicted and as Democrats have now openly admitted.

This irrefutable proof that liberal fantasies are pure fiction for the gullible was followed by another attempt at a government run mess – the take over of our health care system. Only true liberals (especially leaders in Congress and the White House) believe true salvation for this nation will only come when private insurance programs are run out of business and the government beast takes over for us poor incompetent peasants.

Obama has made that clear once or twice already:

As this clip shows, in 2003 Obama was clear on how he would get everyone into a government run health care plan – no one would be left out. He has not changed his tune, he has just tried to fib and lie about his motives to sneak his plan into place.

The combination of proven failure and proven lies has taken its toll on the far left who lead the Democrats. The centrist facade of moderate sanity has been ripped from the Democrat leaders who are now in open warfare with the very same centrists they tried to hide their intentions behind. I guess they really think centrists are dupes and they are pure geniuses (seems they got that one backward as well).

The result is we see early indications of a backlash growing against Democrats in some key states. First deep blue New Jersey is going to go purple this fall barring some major surprise.

fter a month of potential game-changing moments — a visit from President Obama and the selection of a running mate — Gov. Jon Corzine (D) has only lost ground in the latest Monmouth University poll.

Corzine is down 16% and is well under 40%. His opponent is at 50%. Stick a fork in this democrat. And the news is just as bad in blue VA, which is going back to purple this fall:

Bob McDonnell has opened up a 51-37 lead over Creigh Deeds in the race to be Virginia’s next Governor, up from a 49-43 advantage four weeks ago.

The movement in the race likely has more to do with national trends than anything actually going on in Virginia. As Barack Obama’s approval has moved downward in the last month, so have the fortunes of Democratic candidates on the ballot in 2009. Democrat Jon Corzine trails by an equal 14 point margin in New Jersey.

Both candidates have positive favorability ratings- McDonnell’s is 54/26 and Deeds’ is 43/32. But McDonnell has a 52-33 lead with independents, and also has his party’s base more locked up.

Emphasis mine. This is one of many polls with McDonnell well over 50% and Deeds’ well back. This one appears to be over too. And it really should not be at this stage. Obamanomics and Obamacare have taken their toll. And the one thing about Obamanomics is it will continue to be demonstrated each and every month from now until the 2010 elections, as the unemployment figures will provide us all a reminder of the total failure of the government run stimulus.

This is the decade of the centrists. This country has been battered and insulted by the hot heads on the fringes for far too long. We are in serious trouble, but we also seem to be finally learning that all these zealots with their silly easy buttons really are not all they claim to be.

Reader Crosspatch noted this stunning election news:

Roughly one month ago Delaware State Senator (Senator President Pro Tem as well) Thurman Adams (D)died at the age of 80 from a bout with pancreatic cancer. There was a special election yesterday and the two front runners were Joe Booth (R) and Polly Adams Mervine (D and daughter of the late Senator Thurman Adams). Polly had two major things going for her:

1) she is a Democrat; and
2) she is the daughter of Thurman.

What is most remarkable about the win was the margin. Joe garnered over 60% of the vote in a heavy Democrat area and trounced Adams Mervine by 30 points.

I doubt Booth is a ‘pure’ conservative from the far right. There is only one reason voters did this – they are mad as hell at DC for their broken promises and lies.

We see the trend all over. Take Florida for example, were is a backlash against dems but only really pans out if the opponent is a centrist and not too far out on the right. It looks like even some deep blue areas are about to bolt from the liberal democrat leadership, especially if you consider the senate race in Connecticut.

It is too early to see what will happen in 2010, but if 2009 is any indication it will be a massive blowback against the democrats for allowing their liberal leaders to go crazy and make a mess of things. Of course, there are opportunities galore for the GOP to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

Update: I guess the democrats are going to give us all a teachable lesson on how to royally screw up, piss off the electorate, and get soundly whooped at the polls. It seems the answer to the Democrats’ political woes is to go out and insult Americans! What a novel idea.

Apparently, when Americans exercise their constitutional right to free speech and express their views in ‘town hall’ forums – basically participating in our great democracy – they are actually ‘an angry mob’:

H/T Gateway Pundit. You know, it really is an amazing depth of arrogance to claim America’s main street is an unruly mob. With this idiotic PR campaign in place my guess is the Dems will be looking back on 1994 next year with fond memories of how it was when America only slightly revolted against them. But you know mobs – once they get something in their head it is impossible to divert them from their path.

Update: More on President Obama’s reverse coat tails in the Washington Post:

The Prince William County real estate agent was sitting at a long wooden table covered with paperwork. Her clients, a young couple who had brought their 2-week-old baby, were finalizing a short sale on a townhouse that they were anxious to unload, even if it meant ruining their credit, because they had maxed out their credit cards trying to make the payments.

For Cleland, it was another example — one of many this day — of the broken promises of a president who she thought would be different. Obama pledged to change a Washington culture that favored corporations and the connected and instead lift families such as the one sitting next to Cleland out of their economic funk. Rather, she said, Obama has backed billions of dollars to banks that continue to “act like they’re broke” and started the country down a path that Cleland said she thinks will lead to more grief for the middle class.

“He’s just not as advertised,” she said. “Nothing’s changed for the common guy. I feel like I’ve been punked.”

Disillusionment is a tough thing to reverse. Disappointment at being duped is a line that really never gets uncrossed. The democrats are at a tipping point with America. They made all these promises, pretended to have all the answers, promoted themselves as the only path forward – and failed completely. They offered Nirvana and left us economic hell for as far as we can see.

And they wonder why people are turning against them? Could they be that clueless?

Then add this “House Orders Up 3 Elite Jets; $200 Million Cost…Gulfstreams For Ferrying Members of Congress…”http://www.rollcall.com/issues/55_19/news/37552-1.html and the arrogance is unbelievable. Remember the furor over CEO’s flying their corporate jets? We are merely serfs to their aristocratic minds. I can sense a palatable feeling among my friends and co-workers that see this group for what it is-smug and condescending.

  2. lurker9876 says:

    Good point, ph2ll.

Anyone see that Hillary Clinton is preparing herself for 2012?

The problem is that people don’t see that Hillary is not that much different than Obama is. Both are progressives, collectivists, socialists, Alinksy disciples, whatever ya want to label them.

  3. AJ,

Socialized Medicine AKA “Healthcare Reform” is now starting to look like a political 3rd rail — a survival issue for a large fraction of the voting public — that the Obama Administration and the Democratic Party stomped on with no idea what was coming.

See Mickey Kaus’ observation about adding “voluntary euthanasia” provisions to a health care reform bill “cutting costs”

MICKEY KAUS: How Health Care Reform Commits Suicide. “If you don’t want people to think that subsidized, voluntary end-of-of-life counseling sessions are the camel’s nose of an attempt to cut costs by limiting end-of-life care, then don’t put them in a bill the overarching, stated purpose of which is to cut health care costs! … I mean, did that provision have to be in the bill? If it really had nothing to do with cutting costs (which I don’t believe for a minute) did it even belong in the bill?” I’m pretty sure that if this bill commits assisted suicide, it’ll save us money . . . .

This, combined with the Drudge video of Obama supporting single payer, looks to have sealed the deal with America’s politically aware elderly boomers.

They think Obama wants to cut off their life support to pay for Healthcare Reform.

They even have the example of high energy costs in France and their single payer medical system killing thousands of elderly Frenchmen in a summer heat wave to draw on as an example.

  4. kathie says:

Obama discussed three areas he wanted to work on and fundamentally change the way they worked in America; education, energy and health care. Never the less Americans voted for him thinking he would be like Bill Clinton I guess. But Obama used the words “FUNDAMENTALLY CHANGE”, no one should have thought that the change would not be “fundamental” and they are.

Did you know that compared to other developed nations America rates 39 in health care. In counting death per capita are natural deaths, as well as traffic accidents, people killed by other means, including military deaths, and fairness of care. The “39” is used as a reason for fundamentally changing the system, it doesn’t matter that deaths in the other countries are 2,3 and 4 hundred times higher for diseases like cancers of all kinds.

The point is that the Democrats want a “one payer” medical care system period. It is also true that there are many in this country that don’t have medical care or have substandard care because they don’t have medical insurance. It is also true that the wealthy can afford better care then the poor. Just like the wealthy can pay for Harvard educations, buy political influence and do other things that the poor can’t do. We as a Country have been working to help the poor get more and have more influence for ever. I’m not sure we have made much progress, there seems to be as many poor now as there ever were. Though Americans are a compassionate lot, I’m not sure they are willing to have mediocre medical care to help the poor. I think that they would rather find a way to bring the poor up to a higher standard then bring the whole system down.

  5. kathie says:

Another thought. I’m not sure why our health care budget should be a source of great consternation rather then a source of great pride. We are a most inventive and caring nation in trying to help those who need medical help to stay alive and live good lives. We give away more innovation then any other civilized country in the world.

Is there corruption, and deception yes, do lawyers take advantage of the system, yes. Let’s fix those things instead of going back to prehistoric times.

  6. crosspatch says:

    Or check this out.

The UAW agreed to have its members take paid vacation days when Chrysler plants closed for retooling this summer. So the workers have been paid. But now they are being told that since Chrysler doesn’t use a different code for vacation and closing for retooling, the workers are ALSO eligible for unemployment benefits. So the workers are going to get paid twice.

To rub salt in the wound, papers in Michigan put out although Michigan has run out of money for unemployment benefits, they are borrowing from the Federal government, who has an “endless supply” of money (their words).

This idiocy has GOT to stop.

  7. DJStrata says:

    Two things:

Go Bob!! The national issues are definitely helping Bob McDonnell in VA, but so is Creigh Deeds himself. At the first debate he was asked if he would fund any changes or programs through tax increases and he said that no option was off the table. VA doesn’t want to deal with more tax increases, let alone a candidate who doesn’t even try to hide his intentions. On top of all of that Gov Kaine is spending more time working as the Chair of the DNC than as our Governor. Which is pissing the people off. But Bob McDonnell could win this race without all that. He beat Deeds 4 years ago for the Attorney General position.

Those who protest vocally are considered a mob when it scares the other side. So obviously the DNC is running scared. Especially while watching the only two major races this year go straight into the hands of the GOP!

Lurker9876, I don’t know how Hillary is going to try for 2012 when she lets her husband do her job for her. And do it in a way that gave a huge incentive for third world dictators to kidnap Americans?

  8. crosspatch says:

“I don’t know how Hillary is going to try for 2012 when she lets her husband do her job for her. ”

Another way of looking at it is Hillary saying: “Obama can’t get this done, I have better connections, I will send Bill over to collect those women”.

People need to understand something. Until Daschle was kicked out of the Senate in 2004, no sitting US Senator of either party had lost an election in 50 years. People generally don’t vote out their own members of Congress. This is going to take work if people want to make a difference, and a lot of it. My guess is that people like Sarah Palin are going to be pretty busy over the next year stumping for candidates.

  9. ivehadit says:

Let me tell you-The American people can see right through this latest display of dishonesty. The fact is, the people do *not* trust this administration or congress. How do we know? Look at the “mobs”! They ain’t buying what this current group in Washington is selling! And they aren’t buying this “brooks brothers” malarky, either.

I would like to have “Flag” submit the following quiz as “fishy” so we can get the answers on the record:

    from: http://townhall.com/columnists/MikeAdams/2009/08/05/a_health_quiz_for_barry?page=1

“On Page 22, I saw some language, which suggested that the bill mandates audits of all employers that choose to self-insure. Can you tell me whether that is a) True or b) False?

On Page 29, I saw what appeared to be an admission that health care will be rationed under this new plan. Can you tell me whether that is a) True or b) False?

On Page 30, I discovered that a government committee will be established to decide what treatments and benefits I get. However, unlike an insurer, I see no evidence that there will be a process to appeal their decisions. Can you tell me whether that is a) True or b) False?

On Page 50, I read some non-discrimination language, which seems to suggest that all non-US citizens, illegal or not, will be provided with free health care services. Can you tell me whether that is a) True or b) False?

On Page 59, I saw some language suggesting that the federal government will have access to all individual bank accounts for health-related electronic funds transfers. Can you tell me whether that is a) True or b) False?

On Page 124, I learned that no private company can sue the government for price-fixing. Furthermore, no “judicial review” is permitted against a complete government monopoly. Can you tell me whether that is a) True or b) False?

On Page 127, I read that the government will now set wages for physicians. Can you tell me whether that is a) True or b) False?

On Page 149, couched in esoteric “contribution” language, it looks like any employer with a payroll of $400,000 or more, who does not offer the public option, pays an 8% tax on payroll as a penalty. This penalty would go a long way towards destroying the private system. It would also seem to violate your campaign promises – specifically those you made during debates I watched. If I read this correctly, it appears you looked me – via the camera – in the eye and lied. So, Barry, can you tell me whether that is a) True or b) False? ”

We all need to have this article printed out and given to everyone we know…and emailed. It is based on the facts of READING the actual bill!

  10. marksbbr says:

I can’t believe the DNC would stoop down to the level of this video. Americans did vote for “change,” but they’re disappointed with the radical policies “change” meant. After 2004, the Democrats were the truly sore losers, claiming the ’04 election was stolen. Their congressional caucuses did everything they could to block what the Americans voted for, and they called on the truly unruly mobs. Yes, the mobs of “peace” activists who are some of the most violent people known. The mobs that claimed our troops were monsters, or stupid yahoos, while “supporting them.” Let’s not forget MoveOn, the group that claimed to have “bought” the DNC, comparing Bush to Hitler.

Keep it up Democrats, you’re showing your elitism now. Keep speaking condescendingly to the voters and see where you end up.

  11. kathie says:

    Your stimulus money at work.

The Colorado Department of Education Wednesday announced 17 grants totaling $924,815 to school programs supporting homeless children using funds from the federal stimulus program.

An estimated 12,300 students in Colorado were identified as homeless in the 2007-2008.

  12. OLDPUPPYMAX says:

“could they be that clueless?” It was the people who voted for Hussein in the first place who were the CLUELESS ones!

  13. crosspatch says:

“It was the people who voted for Hussein in the first place”

And the ones who stayed home and didn’t vote. Per capita voter turnout was down in 2008 from 2004. More votes cast, but not as many more as there were more voters.

  14. owl says:

No, he is not naive, nor caught up in anything. Note the clip was 2003. Please, I hope there is not anyone left that actually believes that Congress is leading him, instead of vice versus.

Obama is doing exactly what he said he would do. He is leading. He was a man with a plan in 2003. The folks got so caught up with the Voice and the way he frames the issue. Rev Wright was a lesson on race. The only question I have is if he is solo or placed. At this point, don’t guess it matters.

MSM elected him. He could not treat Americans this way without them. DIMS could not treat the public this way without them. The only good news, unless he has his Blk Panther DIM Poll Watchers out in force, a lot of this trash is going to the dump.

He intends to pass Obamacare. He will compromise. He told you that it might take 10-15-20 years.

It must be horrible to be one of these congress critters these days. It is apparently so bad they are now even canceling town hall meetings they never scheduled in the first place.

It is one thing to have to cancel meetings but it must be truly horrible to cancel meetings that weren’t even scheduled in the first place … and then cause you to issue press releases informing of the cancellations.

  17. crosspatch says:

    Oh, and check this out:

The first lady of the United States is not elected, has no constitutional duties and receives no salary, but that doesn’t mean the position is without its privileges – including a staff of 22 White House employees who make a combined nearly $1.5 million per year.

  18. lacegrl130 says:

My congressman – Brad Miller – cancelled an unsceduled town hall – apparently – he received a death threat. I would be interested to know the source.

  19. UglyinLA says:

In 2008, Obama pitched ‘Hope and Change.’ In 2010, the Republicans can pitch ‘Fix the Damage.’

  20. lacegrl130 says:

Here is the email I received in response to my query about a town hall – she told me at the time NONE were scheduled – one day later I get this:

“Thank you for contacting Congressman Miller regarding his schedule and public meetings. Mr. Miller receives about 800 pieces of mail from constituents each week; in addition to that he is briefed on opinion phone calls, and hears from constituents first hand as he travels the district. He is scheduled during the remainder of the work period with civic groups, individuals, governmental leaders, faith based organizations, and community groups. All of this informs the Congressman.

Are we having a Town Hall?

We do not plan on having a Town Hall in the district. Instead, the Congressman is meeting with a variety of individuals and groups. This decision was made after security issues were raised because of threats. I encourage you to visit the website at http://www.bradmiller.house.gov, and click “Write Your Rep”. Your opinion will be logged and a response from the Congressman will be forthcoming. Congressman Miller is briefed weekly about constituent mail and writes responses accordingly. Due to the number of people and groups that have requested appointments with Congressman Miller we are no longer accepting new requests for appointments during August.

Will his schedule for meetings and events be posted on his website?

No. We honor the privacy of constituents and organizations seeking time with their representative. Many of these meeting are the result of invitations from private businesses, organizations and individuals and are not open to the general public.

Your views are very important and we would like to make sure that they are shared with the Congressman. Please write Congressman Miller through the website http://www.bradmiller.house.gov, to ensure your opinion is logged and addressed.”
