Proof In A Movie And Vietnam

Published by at 12:27 pm under All General Discussions

I kid you not, but some one is linking a fictional movie about the NSA and the Vietnam period to suggest the FISA-NSA imbroglio is real

Several years ago, officials at the National Security Agency sought to reassure taxpayers that the agency had long since repudiated its Vietnam-era spying on US citizens.

They insisted that the movie ”Enemy of the State,” which portrayed the NSA as using its formidable technology to track and eavesdrop on Americans, was the stuff of Hollywood fantasy.

Now the NSA stands accused of abetting the White House in what civil liberties activists and others describe as a frontal assault on the constitutional right to privacy.

Just yesterday I wrote how this entire non issue was being fueled by paranoid conspiracy theories derived from decades of Hollywood fantasies:

The entire country, ignorant of intelligence gathering and FISA processes (as was I when this started), but gorged on spy movies, the TV series 24 and decades of conspiracy theories about corrupt government leaders, lept to the conclusion that Bush is ’spying’ on Americans.

I had no idea the left would admit fictional stories where the root of their concerns.

UPDATE:

Major C writes clearly and correctly on this issue to Powerline

The more important part of this exposure, to me, is still to come. That is, do the candidates who wish to replace President Bush support the idea that we should use all legal means necessary to find out what the terrorists are doing to kill our families, and that those programs should have their constitutionality worked out behind closed doors with the advice and consent of the Congress; or do the candidates support the idea that there are inherent rights that terrorists hold, even as they try to kill us, and that newspapers have the right to notify them of programs that may interfere with those rights, regardless of the legality of that program.

Amen brother.

Say AJ. Would you keep an eye on this upcoming event. Do you have any foreknowledge of such event?

A former intelligence analyst currently working as a civilian contractor will unveil publicly what he believes to be recordings of Saddam Hussein’s office meetings discussing his program of developing weapons of mass destruction at an International Intelligence Summit in the nation’s capital next month.

My first instinct at Bigdog’s post was, “Why does this former intel/current civilian contractor have possession of these recordings,” presumably part of the material our guys, on behalf of our government, gathered up during the early part of the war.

A glance at the speaker’s roster for the Intelligence Summit is somewhat reassuring. And, the former intel/civie contractor ‘wishes to remain anonymous until his presentation,’ and that’s fine by me; but I’d still like to have my first instinct mollified.

How does that work? Anybody know?
