NY Times Too Dumb To Know Better
Note the Corrections Please :
Clarice Feldman alerted me to a great piece by Thomas Lifson on how abysmally stupid the NY Times has become as a result of their BDS (Bush Derangement Syndrome). Seems the Times was taken in by a staged photograph regarding our miss on Zawahiri:
It appears that the Times, once-upon-a-time regarded as the last word in reliability when it comes to checking before publishing (which makes them so much better than blogs, of course), has run a fake photo on the home page of its website. The photo has since been removed from the home page, but still can be seen here.
The picture shows a sad little boy, with a turbaned man next to him, a little bit further from the camera, amid the ruins of a house. Other men and boys peer in from the background. The photo is captioned
“Pakistani men with the remains of a missile fired at a house in the Bajur tribal zone near the Afghan border.â€
The story it accompanies is about the apparently failed attempt to take out al Qaeda’s #2 man al Zawahiri, with a missile attack from a Predator drone.
Clarice goes on to refer to experts on how the item in the picture is obviously an artillery shell and not a reminant from a rocket. My expectation is, since it appears to still be a live round, it is probably a munition these ‘innocent’ victims had stashed away someplace and carted out for the photo. If the round had been in the vicinity of the rocket attack it would have gone off as well.
So, don’t be surprised to learn sometime in the near future the damage was larger than expected. If there were munitions at the site there would be secondary explosions and much wider devastation.
If you live by the munition, you can die by the munition. Especially if you sleep and eat with the munition.
UPDATE:
Michelle, as usual, as a great round up going on this story!
What a hoot!
I guess the NYT thinks that they are too smart to be tricked by a bunch of Pashtun peasants.
Big miscalculation.
Thanks for the plug, but the article is by the editor, Thomas Lifson, not me. I simply brought it to your attention. CF
The NYT has provided proof that the people in the town tried to deceive the journalists.
If they were innocent, they would not have gone to the trouble of posing with a missile that they claimed was from the attack. Indeed, they would not have a missile.
The NYT should put the picture back up and explain that they were tricked by these villagers, very-probably because they were harboring Al Qaeda.

hat tip Michelle Malkin I’m sure I don’t need to rehash the far left liberalism of the New York Times, particularly what we’ve seen over the past few years (although I would like to gather together a comprehensive and ongoing…
The picture was wrong, but if you read the article, it said that there were a lot of fighters in the house.
Sorry NY Times, Looks Like We Made A Terrorist Kebab
hat tip: Michelle Malkin You might remember that the blogosphere ripped apart the NY Times a few days ago, for clearly staging a photo for maximum heartstring pulling impact, or at the very least, stupidly running with a photo with…
