Obamacare: Left Says Kill It, Right Says Kill It, American People Say Kill It

Published by at 2:27 pm under All General Discussions,Obamacare

The Democrats need to wake up and read all the smoke signals heading their way. As of today the only ones still trying to save Obamacare are the DC Democrats. We all know the GOP want to kill Obamacare, but now the liberal/progressive wing want to kill it as well:

In a stunning reversal of fortune for President Barack Obama, top progressives are attacking the health-reform plan moving through the Senate as “hollow,” “unsupportable” and a sellout to corporate interests.

Most dangerously for White House chances of assembling 60 Senate votes, former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean launched a third day of attacks on the emerging bill, arguing in a Washington Post op-ed that it meets none of his benchmarks for “real reform.”

“[A]s it stands, this bill would do more harm than good to the future of America,” Dean wrote, then took to the airwaves to amplify his case.

Ed Schultz, an influential liberal radio host, declared on his “Ed Show” on MSNBC: “The base is restless. They are wandering in the wilderness, Mr. President. … They want to know, where are you? … Right now, Mr. President, your base thinks you’re nothing but a sellout — a corporate sellout, out that. … The only people who like this current bill right now, Mr. President, is the insurance industry — they get a bunch of new customers.”

We all know the polls are showing massive resistance to the bill among the American people. So who in their right mind would still be trying to salvage this disaster?

Answer: Nobody.

I was at some of the lefty blogs this morning looking around and they are mad at Obama for this bill and for his troop increase in Afghanistan. Not only is the honeymoon over for the Obamacons but it seems the loony Left is even falling out.

I’m not counting chickens yet, even if the watered down bill passes, it will virtually nationalize private insurance carriers. Joy will come with a resounding defeat.

    Kathie,
When this whole thing started I feared a watered down bill would have passed but I think the Left sees a historic chance to get the whole enchilada, so they are going for broke and trying a complete take over. I figured they would see their overreach and back off like the Clintons and begin a series of incremental steps, but I do not believe that will happen. I do not think Obama or the dems in congress have the humility to come back to the table with their tails between there legs and try for a weaker bill, nor will the hard left let them.

The whole world gets to see what “little dictators” the Leftists are. NOT inclusive. NOT bipartisan. NOT honorable, imho. And NOT SERVING America, but rather their own personal power needs.

  8. In a post on her blog ( The Obama administration: how tyranny could happen ) neo-neocon raises some disturbing possibilities, quoting from another commenter (emphasis mine)…

Politicians in a group when they act consistently and anomalously against what would seem to be their own interests, are usually operating on information not available to anyone else. One also has to add to the mix the question why the Republicans as a party are only offering token opposition to the Democrats, when standing up would rally support to them? What do they know?

When you rule out the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, has to be considered. The only thing that remains, that I can see, is that no matter what they do, they no longer have any fear of facing the voters in an honest election. The specific mechanisms and basis for that confidence have yet to be determined.

Are we seeing malice where we only need see stupidity?

They think they can provide free healthcare for all and then legalize all the illegals here and all that ACORN can import before 2010 and 2012.
Wallah Dem voters and dem majorities for life.
Trouble is they are having a hard time convincing the 50% that have to pay the bill that its a good deal.
The Dems have made a lifetime habit of lying to the public but the public is becoming aware after they lost 1/3 of their retirements and the Dims voted a trillion dollar stimulus that isn’t working!

People who pay the bills are wide awake as to what they are being asked to contribute, who for and are rebelling. The leftists and takers are mad as hell that their free stuff is being taken from in front of their faces!

We’re at a dangerous place here where the taxpayers are fed up and may just decide to not pay anymore. Thus the provision in the bill for the IRS to be able to confiscate from your bank account your contribution!

So it sounds like the Federal government is prepared to finance everybody’s health so that they won’t loose their home, or go bankrupt, or die because they can’t afford good health insurance. Really?

  12. Nelson’s caved.

Face it – we’re gonna get this crammed down our throats.

AJ: The key strategic document seems to be an Alinskyite piece written in prison in 2006 by Robert Creamer, husband of radical leftist Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL). It contains a list of steps that have been followed by Obama to the letter (if not always by the Democrat leadership).

One of the points is not to care about the actual substance of the legislation. Just get SOME form of national control of health care passed that can be tweaked later.

“We need not agree in advance on the components of a plan, but we must foster a process that can ultimately yield consensus.”

    http://biggovernment.com/2009/12/07/was-democrats-health-care-strategy-written-in-federal-prison/

Creamer explains thusly: “If we succeed in winning health insurance reform we will have breached the gates of the status quo. We will demonstrate that fundamental change is possible. Into that breach will flow a wave of progressive change.”

They just need a bill now to open the gates for their ultimate plans for socialization. Obama has followed this to the letter, declaring prominently over the summer that the public option didn’t matter. There were lots of ways to go forward. Whatever was passed, he would sign. A bizarre position for someone who is supposedly driven by conviction about the needed reform. After all, the whole impetus for this reform effort comes from Obama, not Congress. It is Obama who made it a priority.

The Creamer document solves this conundrum. Obama really doesn’t care what bill is passed, so long as it breaks the doors down, setting up a broad regulatory scheme that can later be drip drip dripped into the full socialist plan, taking complete control of health care and placing it all under thumb of Obama’s union thugs.

Obama is Hugo Chavez. Anything he gives priority to has the ultimate goal of securing permanent leftist revolution.

Nelson sold out for medicaid money. Is there anyway we can repeal this thing?

I hope all those conservatives who sat home in 2006 and 2008, because they wanted to send a message stop and think about what giving the Democrats a filibuster majority has accomplished.
