These dots had to be ignored by a human generated policy that overrides the output of the computer. Someone had to actively dismiss the evidence – no way that it was never connected.

Or they simply never checked because it was Christmas and they were having an egg nog.

AJ, and all others on this blog have constantly said that anyone (yes, that means anyone) who leaks classified information should be prosecuted. The very idea that this administration would declassify information just to make Bush look bad (now there's an original strategy - blame Bush) and by comparsion make themselves look less incompetent should make every American's blood boil.

The security of this country and the safety of its citizens are not political calculations. They are sacred duties.

When someone leaks something that is potentially politically damaging to Obama, they go after them. When they leak something that is politically damaging to a Republican, it is "playing politics" to go after them.

Just an FYI, when CBP reviews passenger manifests they do not do so to have the passenger run through the metal detector again. They do so for two reasons, to flag the passenger for special attention once they arrive or to inform the airline not to board or to turn back if the flight is already inbound and remove the passenger.

AJ,

What is scary here is that we have had the same "connect the dot mistake" two attacks running and rather than pure bureaucratic CYA inertia, it looks to be the result of policy decisions to blind out intelligence system to the threat.

Everything from the Obama Administration seems to be spin and smoke machine effects to cover up that basic fact from the public.

And if that *is* the basic fact here, the straight forward implication to be drawn is that we are going to be hit at home, again and again, until the Obama Administration changes policy.

Since policy is people, the only thing we could trust is if Pres. Obama had a 'night of long knives' applying the vertical stroke to fire DHS Sec Napolitano and three to five levels of political appointees under her and then hire Bush-Cheney era national security people to replace them.

Obama's crew would rather die first.

They won't, of course, but a lot of innocent Americans will in their place.

I vote attitude and changes from the top. Remember it was ALL laid on Holder about bringing the trial to NY? Wasn't that one of those things that just happened when Obama was out of town and he would never interfere with his AG?

The Politics of Incompetence

By The Prowler on 12.31.09 @ 6:10AM

On December 26, two days after Nigerian Omar Abdulmutallab allegedly attempted to use underwear packed with plastic explosives to blow up the Amsterdam-to-Detroit flight he was on, and as it became clear internally that the Administration had suffered perhaps its most embarrassing failure in the area of national security, senior Obama White House aides, including chief of staff Rahm Emanuel, David Axelrod and new White House counsel Robert Bauer, ordered staff to begin researching similar breakdowns -- if any -- from the Bush Administration.

"The idea was that we'd show that the Bush Administration had had far worse missteps than we ever could," says a staffer in the counsel's office. "We were told that classified material involving anything related to al Qaeda operating in Yemen or Nigeria was fair game and that we'd declassify it if necessary."

Transparency: Man reviewing intel center also created and ran it
http://hotair.com/archives/2009/12/31/transparency-man-reviewing-intel-center-also-created-and-ran-it/

The focus will fall in large part on the National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC) and the use of watch lists that are supposed to prevent terrorists from boarding flights and entering the country. However, the man chosen to run the probe, John Brennan, is also the man who designed the watch-list system and ran the NCTC

9/11 Commission chair: I can’t believe we’re still having these intel problems
http://hotair.com/archives/2009/12/31/911-commission-chair-i-cant-believe-were-still-having-these-intel-problems/

and, also, in a related issue:

Another 9/11 Commissin member, Lehman, recently said on Hannity's show that after the 93 wtc bombing, the DOJ would not give any intel info to the Pres, CIA, etc because they were more concerned with winning their prosecution of the case. Lehman, said he was concerned by bringing the GITMO detainee trials to NY...the same legalisitic mindset will be made. He said we are always looking backwards when we should be looking forward. He also said that the 9/11 Commission was appalled that so much of what they recommended have been ignored.

YouTube link (Lehman's comments on this issue start around 2:30) where he is agreeing with ex-CIA guy about interrogating)

Great post, AJ.

As far as heads rolling, there's only one head from which this ultimately emanates -- the Presidency. He's responsible for the appointments of Blair, Napolitano and Holder, and as objectionable as they all may be, they do his bidding. The orders to lay off profiling of Muslims came from the Oval Office, of that there's not much doubt.

Getting rid of these agency heads, under the present circumstances, won't accomplish much until Congress demands candidates whose loyalties to America -- and not the politics of the Oval Office -- are unimpeachable -- and with the present Congress, we have another year to go before the present useless porkers can be routed.

Until then, bless us everyone!
