The devil was walking around hell, observing the souls in torment when he came across a newly arrived man who seemed quite comfortable. The devil asked "Hot enough for you?" and the man responded "I'm from the bayous of Louisiana, this place is like a cool spring afternoon where I'm from."

The devil was a little annoyed, so he went to the thermostat and cranked the heat up and made his way back to the man. "Still not too hot?" the devil asked. The man replied "Shucks, this ain't any worse than a summer morning."

The devil than cranked up the heat all the way and asked the man again. The man replied "This is jes like those days we pulled in da crawfish, makes me remember dat crawfish gumbo!!"

The devil was really ticked now, so instead of turning the heat up more, he completely shut it off. A few hours later everything in hell was completely frozen over and the devil found the man again. But to his surprise the Louisiana man was completely ecstatic.

The devil was confused and asked the man "Why are you so happy?". To that the man replied "Don't you know??? The Saints must have won the Super Bowl!!!""

Once again the "paaaassssing" Colts lost the big game. Those 400 yard regular season passing performances are very nice for bored announcers and prospective Hall of Fame stat requirements, but it's still the hard core, blood and guts running teams with great defensive units that win Super Bowls. Neither of this years SB teams fit that bill, which is why neither will be back next year. But it was a fun game to watch and always nice to see the underdog win.

The best thing was that Indy was not rewarded for tanking a perfect season---such behavior should not be rewarded and would only serve to make the regular season less meaningful (fans deserve better and opponents shouldn't be disrespected). Guess they shouldn't have taken their foot off that accelerator--it's not as easy as that to succeed in the NFL at the highest level. Let's just hope this puts Katrina to rest.

And the fourth down call on the Colts 1 yard line was brilliant even though they didn't make it, Payton instilled the confidence he had in his team that they fed off.

I admit it - I cheered for the Saints all the way through. Wife's from Loozyanna and all my inlaws are there, had to.

So I guess I'm not impartial.

Drew Brees was about as close to perfect as any Superbowl QB has ever been, though.

And there's a similarity between sports and politics - it's not just making the best play that wins, but making the best play at the most *Critical* time that does it! Timing is everything.

And considering timing, I think Obama has just made a mistake, but I'll put that in the other thread.

WWS,

Pulease - the SAINTS made big mistakes. Dropped balls, crazy goal line 4th down calls that failed, etc. Yeah, Peyton's interception was a killer, but if it had happened in the first half it may not have meant a thing.

and to add one small correction, imho:

"Both teams fought hard and it came down to who made the last mistake."

I would say it came down to who made the *Only*big mistake. And the QB's mistake in this case was the defense's triumph - Tracy Porter got inside Manning's head, knew where he was going to throw, and jumped the route. One of the best defensive plays of the year!

my sis-in-law in N.O. tells me that the city was wild with sirens, horns, and fireworks all night long.

Should be the best Mardi Gras ever!

as to the game - in the contest for best QB playing, Manning may have won the season MVP award, but on the game's most important play, he stumbled. Brees was perfect.

And we should note that in their final 3 games, the Saints beat Kurt Warner, Brett Favre, and Peyton Manning in order. Impressive.

This was the first time I watched a SB on a big screen HDTV. Really great looking. I agree on that casual dress ad. Some other ads were LOL funny.

Federal gov closed today, along with schools. Still snowed in.
