Stardust From Space
I was reading this and had jumped to the conclusion of the puzzle being pondered on just how material from extremely energetic processes are found in the cold ice of comets. The answer in my head was the ‘heavy’ material with high periodic numbers found in comets is most likely remnants of (a) when the star lights and expels a lot of material and (b) material ejceted from collisions as matter coalesces and planets form in the early phases. Which was later confirmed in the story. I would wager the heavier material help illuminate the tail. Anyway, cool stuff on the the make-up of a comet.
