Liberalism Continues To Crash And Burn

So many chickens coming to roost. Today is turning out to be a damning news day for the left, as all their fantasy beliefs crash into harsh reality. Their simpleton take on life is now being thrashed by the complex forces that are reality.

First up – Unemployment continues to ravage the land, pointing towards a horrible unemployment report coming out the week of July 4th. Check out the staggering increase in the unemployment rolls in just one week (click to enlarge):

While the first time claims rose to by 9,000 to 429,000 new claims a week, the unemployment rolls across all categories rose by over 137,000 in that same week. That equals about a 2% increase, which better not be a long term trend over the summer. 7.5 million Americans are on unemployment of one kind or another, and that does not count the 2+ million who simply dropped out of the ever shrinking workforce.

Obamanomics continues to spread its pain and change. And what does this mean for the President and Democrats in 2012? Nothing good, that is for sure. Let us begin with the President’s election chances, given the mood of independents, as measured by Gallup (click to enlarge):

The big take away from this poll is where the independents are heading – away from Obama in droves (42% GOP – 32% Obama). In the previous monthly poll from Gallup Obama was keeping his own with Indies (37%-37%). That 10% slide indicates another historic drubbing like 2010.

In 2008, during his otherwise-solid election victory, Obama lost the white working class vote by 18 points. In 2010, however, things got much worse: Congressional Democrats’ experienced a catastrophic 30 point deficit among the same group. While the first number is a figure Obama could live with repeating, the second could very well prove fatal.

But it is not just white centrists Obama and the Dems are losing – its across the board and it has to do with the horrible economy:

* Fifty-five percent of Americans think that spending cuts and tax cuts will give businesses more confidence to hire. Only 17 percent think government should spend more to stimulate the economy, and only another 17 percent think we should maintain current spending levels.

* Sixty-five percent say that a major reason for the economy remaining in the toilet is because the large federal deficit makes the economy “unstable.”

* Fifty-two percent think a major reason for our economic doldrums is that “uncertainty” created by government regulations and taxes is harming hiring.

* Only 35 percent think a major reason for the economic doldrums is that spending cuts hurts jobs.

On the Global Warming debacle to Obamacare to out of control government spending, liberalism is taking a beating. The most powerful weapon against an ideology like liberalism is reality. Because reality exposes the leftist mythology for what it is: naive, wishful thinking. And once this becomes exposed, all credibility is destroyed. No sane person will let liberals ever again experiment on Americans as they have recently. Not when the result is the loss of a life’s worth of savings, the loss of value in our homes, the loss of good jobs and careers, the loss of an ever growing standard of living and the loss of confidence in the American dream.

This is what liberalism has wrought, and it will be decades before the memory of these debacles recede enough to give the left another chance.

Update: The completely expected “unexpected” weekly report is once again highlighted at Hot Air

And apparently our strategic oil reserve has become the consumer appeasement oil reserve. Obama has released 30 million barrels into the market to reduce oil prices, make voters happy, and weaken the US.

30 million barrels is about 36 hours worth of US consumption.

  2. WWS says:

note that the reason given for burning off the reserve (just like an unemployed man burning his life savings to stay afloat temporarily) is that the Libyan situation has pulled a large amount of oil off the world market, thus creating a shortage.

Hmm, let me see, just who started that whole Libyan oil fields shut down problem again? From reading the news stories, you’d think it was just some magical event that showed up out of nowhere like a summer rain.

But so this is the end game, finally. Pawn off the family silver. That’s all they’ve got.

    pathetic.

An important thing to look at is the number of jobs created each month. We are due to have about 300,000 people per month retiring and going on Social Security for about the next 20 years as the “boomers” retire. We are creating less than 200,000 jobs for people entering the workforce. The ratio of people paying in to people paying out is in decline.

What is going to bankrupt Social Security and Medicare is the decline in workforce participation. If the number of people working continues to decline, all projections of Social Security solvency are out the window.

This administration, at the same time, reduced the amount that people pay in to Social Security by 2% at absolutely the worst possible moment to do that. The administration seems to take the action that causes the most possible damage.

I just have to wonder what is going through the heads of the 9% Republicans who might vote for Obama.

  5. lurker9876 says:

Merlin, the 9 percent Republicans are idiots.

I am playing Devil’s Advocate with Huntsman…thinking up of two scenaios:

    1. the Democrats will do the McCain thing with Hunstman in the early primaries by voting for Huntsman to get him to the top of the list to ensure Obama another term.

    2. The Democrats will end up voting for Huntsman in both the primaries and general elections to get Obama out of the office.

I say…whatever it takes to affect everyone, including those inside the WDC to force everyone to do the right thing.

The release of the 30 million gallons of oil just cannot be mitigated by the fact of Obama’s intentional shutdown of the oil industry with NO plans for future oil exploration and drilling. Remember how Shell finally backed away from the Alaskan deal? Considering how long it will take to restore the oil industry, it’s too late for Obama to do anything between now until next year.

Now that Cantor and Kyl backed out of the Biden committee…good for them to stand up against tax hikes.

Now it’s up to us to tell them that we’re behind them for standing up against tax hikes.

How many Lib-Prog’s are all that easily persuaded by reality?

I would bet there are a sizable number thinking: “We just haven’t had enough power to REALLY DO IT PROPERLY yet. Those damned Republicans keep blocking our noble efforts. We’ve gotta double down, triple down, do ANYTHING IT TAKES to get another four years in which to Save The Country from eeevil capitalism and individual freedom. You know that the hoi polloi, given choices, make the wrong ones. If we want to save Gaia and create an Enlightened World Order we just HAVE to prevent them from voting for their own individual interests; we HAVE to enact policies and establish regulations that will make the “necessary and proper” choices the only ones available to the Great Unwashed. After all, we’re looking out for The Best Interests Of The Whole World.”

  7. lurker9876 says:

I have to wonder how the Americans will react to the Dream act by fiat….

  8. Crosspatch, you point out important factors affecting Social Security. As someone who has had more than a half-million dollars in real estate equity (residence and rental) evaporate in the past few years, there is no way I can retire (at full SS benefits) when I hit 66 in three years. I wasn’t planning on it anyway but I know many others in my cohort were. Given how many personal balance sheets have been wiped out, it will be fascinating to see how that affects the retirement plans of the first wave of Baby Boomers. If we use 1946 births as the start point, they turn 65 this year.

  9. WWS says:

Biden’s much-touted “bipartisan” group is collapsing. Thus the talks to extend the debt ceiling are collapsing along with it.

August 2nd – keep that date in mind. That’s the day that the Titanic finally hits the iceberg we’ve had our eyes on for years now.

Well, the good news is that I’m not really worried about whether or not Social Security is financed anymore. That debt bomb is going to take a few years to go off, there’s a whole lot of things that are going to wreck us a lot sooner than that.
The collapse of the SS system will just be the final icing on the cake.

Obama is making his moves for votes. Bringing home troops appeals to his base. Turning out oil reserves appeals to all types of voters. Watch for a big Gay rights marriage agenda item to surface, as well as appeasement of Latino’s.

  11. lurker9876 says:

According to HotAir, the Democrats are playing some hard PR games against the Republicans for walking out of the Biden talks. And they’re demonstrating how good they are at the PR game.

Oneal lane, you have good points. However, the turning out of oil reserves is very short term. It won’t help.

Obama’s DREAM act by fiat is also to buy more votes.

You are right that Obama’s desperate for those votes that may not go his way.

  12. WWS says:

oh, now I get it – Huntsman is the MSM’s candidate. No wonder they love him.

I predict that Huntsman will be loved and adored by the MSM – and will never get more than 10% in any primary, about like Ron Paul. The MSM is supporting because they know that the stupid voters SHOULD like him – but to their chagrin, we don’t.

  13. lurker9876 says:

wws, do you think that MSM would do the McCain ploy to get Huntsman nominated as the means of voting Obama out of the office?

  14. oneal lane says:

    Lurker,

Watch the MSM play up to Trump’s narcissism to get him to run independent………Perot reloaded or in this case “combed over”

  15. crosspatch says:

CNN reporter: “How’s the family ready for this [the election]? It’s going to be quite vicious, isn’t it? How do you prepare for that?”

First Lady Michelle Obama: “You know, it’s … we’re ready, you know. Our children, you know, could care less about what we’re doing. We work hard to do that. Fortunately, we have help from the media. I have to say this: I’m very grateful for the support and kindness that we’ve gotten.

So there you go. Michelle Obama thanks “the media” for being in the tank for them.

  16. lurker9876 says:

non-MSM is not kind to Michelle. American Thinker wasn’t.

Oneal Lane, I hate to think that Trump will be used as the Perot way. Let’s hope he will think twice before running it.

Now, wws, that Perry is being pressured into entering the race. I really don’t want him to enter it. I do know that he has evolved over the years but he has too many secrets in his closet that the msm will use viciously against him.

I am already seeing the anti-Perry groups trying to convince us otherwise. Surely, if they were smart enough, they should be pushing for the right candidate in a positive way giving us more than the reason to vote Obama out of the office.

It looks like Straus is not helping Perry at all as he appears to put a stop on the sanctuary bill.

I see that the Mexican police or something have crossed our own border and the Obama adm doesn’t know what to do.

With this increasingly open and porous borders and the DREAM act by fiat, Obama’s trying to get the illegal immigration vote in order to get re-elected.

But I will vote for him in the general election if he wins the nomination.

  17. WWS says:

I don’t think the MSM has the influence anymore to put Huntsman in, even though they think they do and they’ll certainly try. Remember the real reason McCain got in was that every other candidate in ’08 flamed out for some reason or another – does anyone now think Huckaby would have been a better choice?
Fred Thompson never had his heart in it, Giuliani had a stupid strategy, etc. – we had a bad set of choices.

There is a much more motivated field this year, and lots of debates to come. For example, I think Bachman, Perry, even Romney would wipe the floor with Huntsman in any debate. His Caspar Milquetoast act is going to get pathetic real quick.

Perry – I’m still not confident as to how he’ll play on the national stage. The Midwest is the most crucial battleground of all this year, and we need someone who can win the midwest. For that reason, I think Iowa *will* be a pretty important primary this year. I don’t know who will win there, but I’m eager to find out.

  18. crosspatch says:

I think McCain was a better choice than Huckabee. I think Romney would have been a better choice than McCain. I guess I wanted Rudy early on. Huckabee would have been my last choice, McCain would be next to last but either would have been better than Obama.

When everyone’s medicare runs out in about 10 years, I hope the ones who refused to vote or refused to cast a ballot for the president slot on the ballot realize that it is their fault.

Obama didn’t win by all that much of a margin.

Now I can’t for the life of me figure out what triggered the spambot and kicked my last one into the mod bucket. It isn’t long, no bad words, no links at all.
