Mary And Valerie And Joe
Ace of Spades had posted in the idea Mary McCarthy might have sent Joe to Niger (link busted right now). In 2002 I do not believe McCarthy was in a position to send Joe to Niger. In 2003 she may have been in a position to deal with the referal from the CIA to DoJ on the Plame Game in her role in the IG office. Rumors have it she was involved in investigating CIA interrogations and that might be how she obtained information to give to Dana Priest. Interestingly, Mary may have been in a position to send Joe on his first Niger trip for Valerie! Michelle is watching how this may turn out. Michelle does have a link up to thoughts by Mark Levin. I can see McCarthy involved in the Plame referal (which was leaked to the press). Since McCarthy was on the NSC in 1999 when Joe first went to Niger (here and here), I would bet she knew about the trip. It was all about the uranium trade.
May be Mary didn’t send Joe to Niger but she knew about it, along with Rand Beers, Valerie, Sandy Burglar, and then John Kerry and crew. Once they called the President a lier, every thing after the Niger incident went to reinforce the lier thing, and it did, one thing after another. I am so sure they are all tied together. Could some one do a time line. And how can we find out who sent Joe?

What do you think is going through the minds of Scooter Libby’s defense team? The judge has okayed press subpoenas. Will Libby’s lawyers be able to ask questions of Walter Pincus, Dana Priest, Mike Allen, Judy Miller and Nicholas Kristoff as to whether they had any conversations with Mary O. McCarthy and whether she had ever discussed Joseph Wilson, and by chance, his wife, Valerie Plame Wilson? Or, will Patrick Fitzgerald prevail and restrict questioning to the issue of perjury?
Although it is unlikely Mary O. McCarthy was one of Bob Novak’s sources, is it possible she would have known Mrs. Wilson as Valerie Plame and would have continued to refer to her as such? It makes you wonder who besides journalists was she talking to.

Pulitzer Prize winning Dana Priest is married to William Goodfellow. William Goodfellow is the Executive Director of the the Center for International Policy (CIP).
