Open Thread
Dear Readers,
I am so sorry I have not been able to post very much over the last few weeks. We had a slew of personal medical issues, a death in the extended family and a landslide at work. I have barely been able to breathe.
I had planned to post on the Feb unemployment numbers (and still will), but ran out of time again! I am expecting the work landslide finally abates this week (been running since Christmas break).
Until I get my head above water, here is an open thread for comments. Also, if you have a topic you wish me to post on let me know!
Cheers, AJStrata
Heres hopping that better times await you . . .
The Keystone XL Pipeline is being built.
Even President Obama praised his great efforts to make it happen, at least for the Texas-Oklahoma leg.
My understanding is that they are going to build it right up to Montana (to get the oil sands there). All the environmental etc. studies are complete and it has been approved, except a few routing disputes along the way. The Texas to Montana portion that is all in the US doesn’t come under the authority of the President’s (actually the State Department’s) choice.
Once that leg is in, there will only be a short, a few meters, section to make it cross the border. So what are the environmental impacts of a section of oil pipeline a few meters long ?
The environmental community will shit their pants when they figure it out.
AJ
So sorry to hear about all your problems. Just one of the issues you talked about is enough to take one’s time and energy, let alone the slew of events that have befallen you. I hope resolution and some sense of balance comes quickly for you and your family.
AJ, there are times when real life is more important. Take the time you need. We’ll still be here for you.
Thanks everyone for the kind words. I appreciate everyone who comes back here and hope I can get back to normal posting levels.
I have also toyed with the idea of making this multi-author since so many people who comment here are probably smarter than me.
Just as a test question – who would be interesting and who would be interested?
AJ: No one could replace you because you have your own unique point of view but I would suggest Crosspatch and WWS as worthy additions to the blog and if you really want to open it to others, they are the two I would enjoy reading.
Has Obama lost the military vote ???
Code Pink must be proud.
Others would be okay as long as you don’t ban your regular commenters for disagreeing with them.
You might want to check with WWS and see if he will agree not to do his writing while locked up drunk in bars overnight. I rarely agree with him, he’s an attorney and as all of them do, assumes he’s always right. He rarely is.
I like jan’s comments, we often disagree but she has a very good writing style and some interesting things to say.
From above:
“outside the tent and then return unarmed. ”
Can you imagine? US Sec of Defense ordering US Military to disarm in a war zone because he is ‘personally’ afraid of them. WOW.
Hi AJ,
I would recommend Alec Rawls, who also blogs at errortheory.
He is a scientist like yourself and he documents meticulously.
He doesn’t post a lot – his two favorite topics are the fradulent global warming assault and the Flight 93 memorial that has been stealth designed as a mosque.
I do appreciate how accurate you try to be and I think Alec also does that.
