Iranian Threat Grows

Published by at 7:17 am under All General Discussions,Iran

Iran’s threat to the world just increased significantly with their test firing of a medium range missile:

Iran conducted a test launch Tuesday night of the Shihab-3 intermediate-range ballistic missile, which is capable of reaching Israel and US targets in the region, Israel Radio reported. The test came hours before Prime Minister Ehud Olmert met with US President George W Bush in Washington to discuss the Iranian threat.

I seriously doubt Iran is so crazy they would launch missiles at US or Israeli targets (though I would not bet $1 on that premise), but the missiles do represent a very tough defense against military action by the West, whether it is pre-emptive or reactive.  This is the problem with a nuclear armed Iran.  If one of their bombs makes it to a target on the back of a suicide bomber, then attempting to deliver a response becomes a more complex problem.  Responses on well armed nations like North Korea must be overwhelming so there can be no counter strike on neighbors.

The test served its purpose.  We all need to think about what could happen and what responses (pre-emptive or reactive) we are ready to take.

    now can we nuke them?…

Let’s be clear. No one here or in the White House “wants” to nuke Iran. But the sad thing is, we may have to, like it or not. There comes a time, when one must have the will to do what needs to be done.

Based on our current weapons inventory, if we chose to do so we could carpet bomb Iran with only nuclear weapons and turn it into a “field of glass”. To understand this read on how these weapons react to a sand environment.

Is this a likely senario..I think not. Even though the “Nuke’em till they glow and shoot’em in the dark” would undoubt, result in setbacks for their ambitions, I think most would agree this is not shall we say a default first choice corrective strategy.

They have chosen to choose the extreme position that is not sustainable in the long term. Even if through all the handwringing of the international community they somehow they develop and deploy nuclear weapons, what have they accomplished. If they actually use them, they are toast , simple and pure. So they squandered thier money on something of questionable worth.

Maybe the locals will wake up and express some distaste with this ultimate sin tax.
