Republicans Fighting 80% of America

Published by at 12:27 pm under 2006 Elections,All General Discussions

We seem to be in the season of lsoing battles for the house GOP. Not only are they fighting uphill against 80% of the people on immigration, they are also fighting 80% of the people whether there should be an imperial Congress above the reach of the FBI and Courts (who issue subpoenas):

In the rift between Congress and the Justice Department, Americans side overwhelmingly with law enforcement: Regardless of precedent and the separation of powers, 86 percent say the FBI should be allowed to search a Congress member’s office if it has a warrant.

That view is broadly bipartisan, this ABC News poll finds, ranging from 78 percent among Democrats to 94 percent of Republicans.

Are there any other suicide missions are GOP Representatives want to take on? Maybe they could come out against children or sunsets?  And these are the same people who ran away from taking a stand on permanent tax cuts, Dubai Ports, etc in the face of public opinion?

    AJ,

This is a question, not a disagreement (I’m not certain).

I’m hearing a reverse of the 80% – 20% on immigration, that is, that the House members, all up for election in November, are receiving overwhelming feedback from their respective districts, angry and against the Senate bill. That was also Rep. Chris Shays’ stated reason for his 180 turn — he caught hell from his voters and, where he had been supporting the Senate version, he backed down.

Senate members, at least 2/3 of them, do not have to face the voters for another 2 or 4 years, depending (I think it’s past time to repeal the 17th Amendment anyway; the Senate has never been overly concerned with what ‘we the people’ want).

Not that ‘majority stance’ means much — I tend to re-examine my own views to see and consider whether there’s something I’m missing when I find myself in a lop-sided minority (not a real rarity), but I only change or soften a position if I find factors I’d been unaware of, or become convinced that I was wrong, not because of other opinions.

(Probably because I’m old enough to remember Maurice Chevaliet’s then-famous line, “Fifty thousand Frenchmen can’t be wrong.” Hah!)

It never ceases to amaze me how people can behave. On one hand we hear how awful it is that the Republicans should even think about supporting any part of a bill that so many Democrats voted for…but when Chucky Schumer and Hillary Clinton got in front of the cameras and accused the President of selling our coasts or ports or whatever to the terrorists people like Duncan Hunter were more than happy to carry their water. Now they are running cover for a crooked Democratic Congressman. But compromise with Democrats and vote for a bipartisan bill on immigration? Perish the thought.

Culture of Corruption a No Go…

14 percent of Americans do not want the FBI to search the office of a Congress member, even if they have a warrant to do so. Who are these people? If you guessed Republicans, you’d be in for a surprise….

NO WAY JOSE’ er uh AJ, backa*s wards. 80% want illegal immigration stopped. The senate bill gets 0% stopped. Only the naive that somehow have been duped into believing that the senate bill will do something about stopping illegals are in favor of it. Anyone that has read it, or understands what is in it, wouldn’t vote for it even if they were holding their nose. I honestly believe that if George Bush had any idea what is in it would run and hide. There is no way he personally believes it is a good thing for America, so why he advocates it can only be due to politics and even then he is dead wrong, passing that bill would absolutely kill the Republicans deader than H*ll. I am a middle of the road republican, and I know that for a fact, I’m definitely not a radical one, and I have personally read about one third of the bill, it’s too long to read it all, but I did read all of it about the Amnesty part. There is NO WAY any Repub can believe it is good for America. Yes I realize a lot of people get hysterical about us Conservatives that just don’t “get it” but the real hysteria is because we DO “get it”

I was over at Micheal Yon’s website and saw a link to this. Thought I would share.
