If The Left Wakes Up…

Published by at 8:24 am under 2006 Elections,All General Discussions

The left has a chance to steal the middle this fall with the Reps so far out of position on immigration. I for one will have an incredibly tough time buying platitudes and promises, but it is possible that sincerity can break out if the dems wake up from their BDS. Here is an example of what I mean:

What was important about yesterday’s press conference is that Bush gave the best argument to date for not giving up the battle to turn Iraq into a relatively stable, possibly even democratic nation. There are enough signs of progress that it’s too soon to throw in the towel.

“I understand how tough it is for the American people to reconcile death on their TV screens when the president’s saying we’re making incremental progress. … But what I hope they understand is how important it is we succeed in Iraq, that the country is more dangerous – the world is more dangerous – if we don’t succeed,” he said.

While Bush’s critics, including this page, have repeatedly pointed out the colossal mistakes his administration has made in Iraq, the issue now is whether there’s still a chance to achieve the goals Bush talked about yesterday: a nation that can provide security and the other fundamentals of a civilized life for its citizens. Clearly, the administration has learned from its early errors, even if the president has been loath to admit mistakes. Military tactics have evolved. And there is now a fully elected government with a constitution in place.

Bush is right. It is not time to give up.

That is not a fake promise or spin. That is a clear stand on the right side of a key issue without equivocation. Casey in PA is another example of where the Democrats can push the right to the fringes and stand in the middle with most of the country. He is pro life which takes out 90% of the concern with any Democrat (notice how respect for life seems to permeate all issues from abortion to taxes and defending this nation?). In fact, in terms of expanding the pro-life base into the Democrat party Casey is better than Santorum.

I think Bilbray barely won against Busby because of the voting trends in CA 50, not so much his hard line position. If his hard line position was grand he would have had all the reps and a 60-40 win since Reps outnumber Dems 2 to 1 in that district. JD Hayward’s position is much more indicative of what may happen. If his opponent takes the moderate position there is a chance Hayward (who I really like) may not survive this fall since his district is not as lopsided as Bilbray’s is.

But the left can make a play with the reps defending bribery in Congress and trying to make working without federal permission a felony – not to mention the precedent that kind of short sighted law will establish. If it is illegal to support your family as an undocumented worker, what is there to stop the feds from making it illegal to work without proper documents for all people? Do we want the Feds to determine when someone is allowed to make a living? Some on the right think so.

I believe the close race in CA-50 was apathy in CA in general.. only 30 percent voter turnout. Statewide. Don’t know the numbers in CA-50, but I would say the turnout in % of D’s and R’s was proprtionate to the outcome.
Why so much doom and gloom abut the elections? Running on Security and Illegal Immigration will catipult the R’s over the D’s because the D’s have NO SECURITY PLAN and are LAX on ILLEGAL Immigration.
The voters will decide, and I think SECURITY outweighs Tax Increases and Social Programs. Even here in La La Land.

Busby made that idiotic comment about not needing papers to vote and cooked her goose.

I think people are more interested in solutions right now than they are in ideology, the ranting and raving only goes so far. That is true with both sides.

It is possible to be tough without being vindictive. And to be honest I have come to wonder how interested some of the partisans really are in fixing things. I am beginning to wonder if the whole immigration issue is just a scam desugned to create controversy and rile people up without any real attempt to solutions at all.

The left wants America to lose and the right wants America to be afraid of everyone and eveything.

Well TERRYE I think you are mostly right in that post but the last little bit needs to be edited just slightly
    This”
“The left wants America to lose and the right wants America to be afraid of everyone and eveything.”

    Should read:
“The left wants America to lose and the right wants America to be afraid of the left.”
    As well they should be.

Look at that “platform” the Dems publicized yesterday to win back Congress.
Pandering seems to be their platform.
Minimum wage, everyone needs to be paid above the poverty level, BS they should be paid what they are worth. If the objective is just to give people a wonderful life, give everyone a couple million a year and don’t require them to work. That should get a lot of voters. But that seems to be the mentality.

And the problem with this would be?

Is an undocumented worker an illegal immigrant.

Is an American citizen an undocumented worker?

And this question should read: instead of this:

“Do we want the Feds to determine when someone is allowed to make a living? Some on the right think so.”
    Shouldn’t the question be?
Do we want the Feds to determine when illegal immigrante are allowed to make a living in the USA? Most on the right think so.

this would put the question into context.

The more I watch politics full time, I’m absolutely amazed that about 90% of the elected members of Congress have no business being there other than profiting themselves. They don’t give a damn about anything except being re elected. However you can generally never count anyone out in an election because about 80% or more of the people that vote, don’t have a clue.
If every single citizen in the US got themselves really fully informed before the vote, the vote would be about 80% Repub and 10 % Democrat and 10% other.
The Democrats literally want America to lose, in everything, not just the war. They are literally like PITA is about animals. They want us to be subserviant to the rest of the world for some reason. and the Republicans, as I said before, they mostly want the Dems to lose.
