Joe And Val Suing To A Best Seller

Published by at 3:05 pm under All General Discussions,Plame Game

Obvioulsy Fitzgerald is closing up shop because first we have Rove jauntily walking around sans indictment, then Novak opens up on his role in all this, and now the Wilsons try and create a mega-scandal so Val can sell more books by filing a flimsy law suit against Libby and Rove! Too much fun. Bring it on Joe and Val, because you will be opening yourselves up to such questions and information held back that your reputations will not survive the encounter. Let’s begin with Joe’s role in the Kerry campaign. Then we can move onto how Valerie was one of only 4 people present at the debriefing at the Wilson’s home where Joe was sure he debunked forgeries that would surface 6 months llater! Funny how Val never suggested Joe for the trip but was always there on key dates. We can explore Marc Grossman and pull Armitage into all this. A civil suite would be the perfect place for the final show down.

Addendum: I have to say I think Joe Wilson is just plain dumb. All evidence points to Libby not outing Plame but responding to reporter’s questions. Rove did not out Plame, he answered reporters questions. Novak did not out Plame, Armitage did. So what is this suite going to be about?

,blockquote>In a lawsuit filed in U.S. district court, Valerie Plame and her husband, Joseph Wilson, a former U.S. ambassador, accused Cheney, Rove, and I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby of revealing Plame’s CIA identity in seeking revenge against Wilson for criticizing the Bush administration’s motives in Iraq.

What a waste of lawyer’s fees (bet you Sorros is paying for this). There is no way to win this case when a federal prosecutor is not even making these charges stick. Either the reporters broached the subject, or in the case of Mitchell and Russert, never heard about Plame! The one’s who did broach the subject had contacts with JOE WILSON! Miller and Cooper (via Massimo) were in contact with Joe Wilson. So if Miller and Cooper did not hear it from Libby or Rove originally (which they both testified under oath about) who did they hear it from? When all the evidence points away from Libby and Rove as the original sources for all those who supposedly knew Plame, you have to wonder about this suit. It is probably just a political stunt to keep the story in the news. Call it a poor loser’s Fitzmas.

Addendum: More here.

Addendum: Here is the filing by the Wilsons. Apparently it names Cheney, Libby, Rove and hints at ten other people from the government and politics.

Update: Well, it is not good to submit something that is just plain wrong, and timelines will prove it. Check out Para 3 where it now claims if it were not for Joe Wilson the 16 words would never have been challenged! LOL! What a hoot. Unfortunately for Wilson, his article came out in July and the 16 words were lit a flame much earlier. Just check out this timeline by the BBC and see that the IAEA had made comment about the claims in March. So from the start the jury will see what a self-aggrandizing liar Joe Wilson is.

Update: Page 6 Item B: Wilson brings back the claim he debunked the forged documents! Let’s open up that can of worms.

Update:Page 7 has some interesting, never before seen details on the timeline of events that can only be coming from grand jury testimony and knowledge. Much of it around Under Secretary of State (and posible life pal to Joe Wilson) Marc Grossman, whom it seems has may be taking a role in this suit with the Wilsons.

Correction: looks like this part is lifted from the Libby indictment and I just don’t recall the details. Who knows what it means

In fact, on Page, para ‘e’, it seems Grossman is blaming other State Department employees for saying Valerie sent Joe! Interesting. Was Grossman trying to hide is relationship with Joe? Why would Grossman say something that Joe Wilson claims is fals – Valerie’s role? Was this a set up to juice up the story and get it out in the media? The nepotism angle is an eye catcher that even Novak couldn’t resist dropping in his story on Niger. Wilson did clearly say, well prior to his own coming out, that the only way to get the story going was to create a scandal. That is on audio tape. So did the Wilson plan all along to throw out the Plame angle to give the story some legs? Wouldn’t surprise me in the least. That sounds like a good CIA trick, hide a poison pill in a bit of eye-candy.

Reading the filing all I see is a lot of hallway office gossip!

Update: OK, on page 13, para 22 they go back to Marc Grossman’s 1X2X6 theory which assumes two officials leaked to 6 reporters. But what we had was 1 official leaked to Novak and Woodward, and 2 officials confirmed the information to some degree! This is one weak case off the bat.

Update: Man this is hard to read, it is so lame. On page 16 the damage done was all the notoriety and exposure, which was not caused by the WH defending its position, it was Joe Wilson making false claims, first anonomously (which seems to be a big problem the Wilson’s have with WH comments) and then later out in the open. If the Wilson’s were damaged because of notoriety then blame Joe. This is the price you pay for speaking out on a matter, and lying to a nation about what you did in Niger!

Update:And is anyone surprised to see leftwing nut Erwin Chemerinsky on the Plame Team? Check out the very last thing on the very last page.

This is too funny and, by the way, Joe and Val, too stupid for prime time, but hey, whatever! AJ, thank you.

Just a guess but the CIA isn’t likely to part with any information as part of discovery in a civil suit. Criminal, yeah, maybe, but not a civil suit. Will be interesting but the Wilson’s need to keep this front and center in the news until Val’s book is released and besides, Gretta doesn’t have much to report from Aruba these days so the timing is perfect.

  3. retire05 says:

Mr. Wilson, this memo from your wife says you have French connections and you were going to Niger for business. Who are those “connections” and what exactly was your business in Niger? And under full disclosure rules, we want the names of all your clients.

    Game, set, match.

  4. crosspatch says:

I believe his “french connection” is an ex-wife, is it not?

I am not sure how much of this Joe want’s out in the public.

  5. AJStrata says:

    Retire05,

That is a good point. We could learn a lot from a civil case, like his French Connections, what was he doing in Niger durign a coup d’etat, and what were his dealings with reporters and the news media. Some conservative bigwigs may want to finance this show and get some serious legal and PI talent going here!

  6. crosspatch says:

    “wants” even.

I thought it was already established eons ago that Val was not covert, therefore she could not have been “outed.”

AJ, this is a libel case. And because of it, the bar has been moved on what will and will not be admissable in court. Establishing credibility will be key.
If my memory serves me right (feel free to correct it) is that Plame said that Wilson was going to Niger on business anyway and due to his French connections would be the logical choice. I don’t think Wilson is going to want to reveal that he did not go to Niger over the business of chick peas. How many chick pea farms in Niger are the French in control of?
His testimony before the Senate will also come into play to serve as his credibility. Ooops, he “misspoke” (lied) when it came to the forgeries.
One of two things are in play here: either Wilson is so damn arrogant that he really thinks he stands a chance to win this fiaco or he is so stupid that he should have never, NEVER been an ambassador and especially to a nation run by Saddam.
Joe Wilson, Niger, the French, yellow cake, Saddam and Oil for Food kick backs, forgeries done on letter head that contained old officers that were in fact, in office when Wilson was in a position to get his hands on such a letterhead. Should be an interesting law suit. Let’s also not forget who passed the forgeries and who was working in Rome at the time.
And BTW, who was the reporter that Wilson had breakfast with that said he was with “Wilson and his wife?” Was it the reporters wife or Valerie Plame? And can you give me the date of that breakfast relating to when Wilson joined the Kerry campaign? Somewhere in the back of my mind, these two incidents tie in together.

The Wilsons just lynched themselves. This is going to be a friggin circus. Sometimes I think that the Bush administration, Wilson, and the media concocted this whole damn thing just to entertain the American public.

Wilson and Plame under cross-examination, oh my. Can we submit questions for the defense to ask? I bet we can come up with quite a few questions that will make the Wilsons wish they were never born.

There is a third possibility. That he really doesn’t care and what he is doing now is keeping things in front of the public until book/movie are out and then drop the suit and rake in the bucks. He is pretty much set no matter what happens at this point as long as the books do well. He probably has a job with CIP forever regardless of outcome of this suit. The book/movie deals are just icing on the cake.

    PT Barnum would be proud.

  13. retire05 says:

Here is the problem with the suit. The onus in on the Wilson/Plame gang. They are going to have to PROVE that she was a) covert and b) that they have suffered irrepairable damage from her cover being blown. This means a) CIA cooperation in releasing her records which will be pertinent to the case. In other words, the defense should be able to request her status at the time of Novac’s article, her status after Novac’s article, and any other documentation that pertains to her employment with the CIA and exactly what she was doing for the CIA at the time and b) that there has been damage to Wilson/Plame and their family.
I would also think that the defense would have the right to show that their very employment as a CIA operative and a U.S. ambassador would in themselves, put the Wilson’s in danger as well as any business connections that Wilson had created since leaving Iraq in 1991.
But alas, I think that once Plame’s book deal is a go, the case will probably be dropped.

  14. AJStrata says:

    Retire05,
Yeah, the whole can of worms from the forgery (which he was in the best position to create) to the OFF. The brekfast was with Nick Kristof a couple days before his early May piece that kicked this whole thing off. I think it was around May 1. There has never been a date given for when Wilson joined the Kerry campaign, just Rand Beers acknowledgement that he was on the campaign and that he, Beers, knew Plame worked at the CIA! Don’t forget that little wrinkle. Beers probably knew Val given their National Security roles.

  15. retire05 says:

AJ, it will be pertinent when Wilson joined the Kerry campaign as well as when he made his donations to Kerry. The witness list is getting larger as it will now include Kerry, his campaign manager, the person who brought Wilson on board (Rand Beers?) and why Wilson was dumped. This information will lead to the “conflict of interest” point.
Add to the mix the speech Wilson gave to the Arab organization where his wife was present. So the defense will have the right to question the organization’s representative as to why they selected Wilson and what his connection is to them. The date of that speech will be pertinent since being present there is not something that a covert agent would do.
Wilson wants to claim there have been threats against them but I would lay down a heavy bet the threats did not come from “our” goverment.
Wilson is nuts. He and his little chippy are going to open a can of woms that will be heard around the world. France, OFF, Niger, yellow cake. The best thing this clown could do for his family is move to a small town in Utah and hope like hell no one ever mentioned his name again.

  16. retire05 says:

AJ, let me fly this by you.
Fitzmagoo tells Novac that he is free to discuss testimony because the case is winding down (i.e. over).
Question; once the investigation of a special prosecutor is done isn’t there are report written and doesn’t that report then become public information?
Did Plame file this law suit to keep the information that would be contained in the Fitzgerald report under wraps not because it will be pertinent to her case but will also keep Fitzgeralds finding “covert”?

No report is possible and none will be made. Those were a feature of the now repealed independent prosecutor provisions.

  19. THIS Ought To Be Amusing…
