Congress Wants Dead Americans Before Surveillance

Published by at 4:09 pm under All General Discussions,FISA-NSA

The FISA-NSA “compromise” (more like a capitulation) has unnerved the far left and their crackpot enablers on the right. Some in Congress (and apparently the NY Times) want the NSA, a military unit, to get a warrant before it monitors terrorist enemies overseas. Why? Because they are afraid the terrorists may talk to someone in the US and be overheard plotting something, and that would violate that person’s civil right to privacy. And to make sure we have no doubts that we are dealing with terrorists when we monitor them, Congress wants some Americans to die before the military/NSA will be allowed to find, monitor and stop any further attacks – if they can do it within 45 days:

Meanwhile, Representative Heather A. Wilson, the New Mexico Republican who leads the intelligence subcommittee with oversight of the N.S.A., proposed legislation Friday that she said would strengthen Congressional oversight of the surveillance program and “modernize” intelligence-gathering techniques. Among other provisions, Ms. Wilson’s bill would allow the government to monitor the communications of suspected terrorist targets without a court order “for a period not to exceed 45 days following a terrorist attack” and require Congressional certification for any extensions.

The fact Republicans can come up with idiotic and dangerous proposals just goes to show you no side is perfect. Once Americans hear the proposal that, after the next 3,000 people die we will monitor terrorists for 45 days and hope we get some leads they will be all for it, I am sure. And the terrorists? Simple. Attack, go silent for 46 days, attack again, go silent for 46 days, attack again….

Time to throw the entire bunch out of Congress and start from scratch. Then dump all the judges and prosecutors and decsion makers and get new blood. Because when they call on us to die for their pet theories we are best rid of them.

This makes about as much sense as allowing monitoring 45 days PRIOR to the attack.

    Crystal balls anyone.

Just saw this at The Strata-Sphere, completely missed it.

From what I have seen over the past few years, our Congress is quickly becoming impotent ( like the UN), and is full of those who do not appear to care about our security in this very dangerous world we live in.

I believe that the NY Times should be tried for treasonous actions brought about by their hatred for the current administration. People complain about a possible leak of a minor, not covert for at least 5 years CIA employee who’s information about her ties with the CIA were in the Who’s Who for public viewing by anyone, yet the NY Times gives away our anti-terrorist strategies to the world and goes scott free. In case you don’t know it, we are at war with Islamo-facists bent on the destruction of our way of life. Giving away our playbook to the enemy is irresponsible at the least, and possibly treasonous, placing our country even more in jeopardy.

  4. Forget voting them out the deck is too stacked. Now is the time to apply the Declaration of Independence.
