What Is In The Bekaa Valley?
Lebanese officials are noting a lot of Israeli Air Force activity in the Bekaa Valley near the Syrian border. Some wonder if IDF troops will soon be entering the area.
Lebanese army and security officials said Tuesday night that a major IDF operation was underway against suspected Hizbullah positions near Baalbeek in eastern Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley, with one officer saying the IAF presence in the air above the ancient city was “unprecedented.”The operation began with at least five rapid air strikes.
“The extreme, unprecedented number of aircraft indicates the possibility that the Israelis are planning to land troops, but we cannot yet confirm that,” said one security official.
Interesting development to say the least. What would the IDF find in the Bekaa Valley? Could they uncover a stash of WMDs stamped “Property Of Saddam”? Is that why Syria is so on edge and heightening their military readiness? I for one would be really interested in what the IDF would uncover in the Bekaa Valley. I doubt it will happen. But if it did it would be enlightening – one way or the other.
Israelis are in Baalbeek on the Syrian border. Special forces have surrounded a hospital there where it is believed one of the captured Israeli soldiers is.
Peres said today Egypt and Jordan will not join Syria if it enters the war and Syria’s in no position to enter the war alone.
well, the story has changed a bit:

Reports are now that all is quiet in Baalbek.
IRAQ General Sada said any WMD in Bakaa Valley probably removed when Syria withdrew from Lebanon

That was my thought that some of Saddam’s WMD could be found in the Bekaa Valley.
I had the great honor of meeting Iraqi Gen Georges Sada [author of Saddam’s Secretes] recently at a local speaking engagement.

I asked him that specific question. He said that when Syria pulled out they probably removed any of the WMD items.
