After 9-11 America realized it had under estimated the determination simple blood thirst of Al Qaeda. Even after many declarations of taking Jihad to America, and a series of attacks on Americans overseas, we did not fully appreciate the threat. Sadly, even aftyer 9-11, Madrid, Bali, London, Jordan, Egypt, Bombay and the latest UK Airline Terror Plot there are some truly delusional souls who still cannot see any immediate threat. Some of these poor souls will be coming out soon in a public letter that says all these attacks and all the attacks foiled against the United States, along with Iran’s open efforts to become a nuclear armed terror-supporting state, mean nothing:

Seeking to counter the White House’s depiction of its Middle East policies as crucial to the prevention of terrorist attacks at home, 21 former generals, diplomats and national security officials will release an open letter tomorrow arguing that the administration’s “hard line” has actually undermined U.S. security.

Gard said the signatories — who included retired Marine Corps Gen. Joseph P. Hoar, head of U.S. Central Command from 1991 to 1994, and Morton H. Halperin, a senior State Department and National Security Council official during the Clinton administration — did not believe that Iran had the wherewithal to build a nuclear weapon in the immediate future and would push the administration to open negotiations with Tehran on the issue.

Gard is a fool. The US is not the only country concerned about Iran since all of Europe is working on what has been a failed effort for dilplomatic resolution. An effort supported by Bush and Co. for a year or more. Gard sees all this failed effort as nothing serious. We did not take Bin Laden seriously before 9-11 either. And so far we have avoided the WMD attack. But we cannot avoid it forever and the history since 9-11 is showing no let up whatsoever in the effort to kill us infidels.

Telling in this silly liberal propaganda notice (which is simply and ad for an upcoming leftwing announcement couched as news) is that there is no mention of the UK bombing attack as the source of heightened concern by the administration:

The letter comes as President Bush has made a series of appearances and statements, including a visit Tuesday to the National Counterterrorism Center in McLean, Va., seeking to promote the administration’s record on security issues in advance of November’s midterm congressional elections.

The rhetoric has increased since last week’s Democratic primary in Connecticut, in which antiwar political newcomer Ned Lamont defeated three-term Sen. Joe Lieberman to become the party’s Senate candidate — a victory that senior administration officials are describing as a sign that Democrats are embracing their party’s extreme left.

The leftwing is all upset the administration has a sense of heightened urgency and concern since the bombing plot was thwarted. They see this concern as a political game. Of course they are simply playing their role as the clueless caste regarding national security. I would be ready to vote Bush out if he HAD NOT become newly concerned and WAS NOT redoubling our efforts. We dodged a bullet and not by a whole lot.

The left spent the last year uncovering our nation’s most important, successful and legal anti-terrorist programs and then they run around like Chicken Little saying the sky is falling. They say we are not safe, but don’t worry about Iran gaining nuclear wepaons. The left is simply imploding in another clear example of incoherent panic.

Addendum: I meant to note that all through WW II there were many who wanted to cut and run. They wanted to give Hitler, Mussolini and Hirohito all the land and human guinea pigs they wanted. This is not new or news. If people want to be lambs to the slaughter – fine. There is no draft and no one is being forced to go to fight Islamo Fascism. If fighting for survival is not in the cards then stay home. But do not pretend to lecture those who do want to fight for our survival. Darwin was right and a lot of us understand that.
