Not Much Change Since 2002
A stunning NBC/WSJ poll out today shows the mood of the country has not changed much since 2002 regarding terrorism and the country being secure.
Public opinion on whether the war on terror has succeeded in disrupting international terrorism remains roughly where it was in September 2002. Today, 15% say the WOT has succeeded in disrupting international terrorism “a great deal,” compared to 18% four years ago; 26% say it has succeeded “quite a bit,” compared to 25% four years ago; 32% say “just some,” compared to 36% four years ago; and 18% say “very little,” compared to 15% four years ago.
This has to be terrible news for the Democrats. But they might want to focus on this bizzare CNN poll where nearly half America apparently blames Bush for 9-11:
Asked whether they blame the Bush administration for the attacks, 45 percent said either a “great deal” or a “moderate amount,” up from 32 percent in a June 2002 CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll.
Ever since Gallup dumped CNN the polls our of CNN have been ludicrous.
AJ,
Good juxtaposition of polls!
Re the CNN poll: Interesting that that question was even asked (power of suggestion). The answer can be explained by a five year barage by a hostile media, by push polling and by the usual 11% stupidity factor.
Oh for heavens sake Bush’s last approval rating at CNN was 42 I think. So I am supposed to believe that people either approve of Bush or think he is responsible for the attack. In fact 55% approve of the way he is handling the War on Terror.
Maybe almost half hold the government in general somewhat responsible for not doing more.
Terrye,
Good points.
Worse news is that for Bush: leaked military report says Anbar Province is LOST permanently to US troops. Strata keeps
emphasizing WOT results but people are angrier at Bush for the quagmire based on lies than they are happier with him for
his relative “strength” vis a vis Dems on terror in general. And
this explains the increase CNN refers to ,as people merge the
two.
Having said that, I am an independent Perot-styled third party voter
who opposed, as did he, both Mideast Iraqi interventions. And as such
I believe 9/11 was “musical chairs” with the GOP getting caught.
Which is to say big blowback was coming and was not going be
thwarted by either ruling class party when it came.
Ken
We are now concentrating on Bagdad, late in my opinion, but still worthy.
Anbar province can suffer a similar fate later, choose your timing.
I wonder what your opinion of 9/11 would have been if Gore had won the election.
Poll: More Americans Blame Bush For 9/11…
As I’ve said countless times, I’m not a big fan of polls, and this is yet another example of why that is. No polling data at all (who they asked, what age groups, what party affiliation, etc), so of course I question the results.
The percentage o…
