Looney Lindsay: Don’t Insult Our Enemies!

Published by at 6:03 pm under All General Discussions

Sen Lindsay Graham is one of those lawyers who is too literal and who thinks in simple terms, and apparently cannot envision context when assessing law. The man is trying to literally interpret Article 3 of the Geneva Convention, which is insane on the face of it:

(c) Outrages upon personal dignity, in particular, humiliating and degrading treatment;

Graham and others are afraid if we do not follow this vague and stupid condition of the convention we will be seen as pulling out of the conventions. This is that brute force thinking I warned people about regarding some legal thought. They hate to have to argue subtleties, so they punt with simple minded solutions. First off, any enemy willing to use that excuse against our soldiers or standing on the conventions can and will have numerous excuses to disparage us. And as Talk Radio pointed out all day long, don’t look for Al Qaeda to stop torturing, beheading or abusing the dead bodies of our soldiers because we won’t insult them. You can ‘outrage personal dignity’ by simply insulting someone’s family roots. This is absolutely ridiculous! Sen Graham, sit down and shut up you blubbering idiot! (there – I violated the Geneva Convention). This is not torture. This is not inhumane. This is getting so damn close to controlling hate speech it is frightening. The detainee will get to determine what is insulting, or the UN. Bush could be held on war crimes under the Geneva Conventions when he calls them Islamo Fascists with this kind of thinking.

Senator, no American should die or risk death for this stupid sentence. None. It is not worth dying over. How we can support pre-emptive attack as a legitimate defensive move but cannot defend our use of cold rooms and loud rock music is beyond me. Get off this issue. If you are tripped up by this you are not prepared to lead. Laws have to be seen in context, not in silly abstract. We will not die for this idiotic definition of torture – hurt feelings is not torture. Lindsay Graham – Don’t Insult MY Intelligence.

    Aj:

I heard Bush say he wanted this clarified in a way that the CIA has no doubts as to what humiliating treatment really is. The House supports Bush’s plan as does Frist, so there is some doubt as to whether this bill will even come to the floor for a vote. Graham is a JAG lawyer and I think that he still thinks like one sometime. I don’t think he is concerned about protecting terrorists, so much as he wants everything done by the book, and Warner says he wants it to stand up to a Supreme Court ruling. The SCOTUS has said these people can be held for some time, until the end of hostilities. So the problem is not that the government has to sit them free, it is how to try them. They can not however, force Bush to do anything with these people.

Actually A.J. the problem is Looney Lindsey is NOT interpreting Article III literally. If he were he’d realize the acts he’s so busy going crazy over in sub para (c) pertain to the parties listed in para 1:

“1. Persons taking no active part in the hostilities, including members of armed forces who have laid down their arms and those placed hors de combat by sickness, wounds, detention, or any other cause, …”

In other words, noncombatant civilians and non-fighting members of the armed forces. I don’t know where Colonel Lindsey went to Senior Service School, but he either slept through this lesson or must have phoned it in.

Graham makes me want to scream, I lived in SC when he was first elected and actually helped to get him elected. I have regretted it every since and have told him so. The last straw for me was the ‘gang of 14’ it’s been all downhill since then. It’s almost like having a Dem in there.

I am convinced that Graham is in McCain’s pocket. He goes along with him too much. They probably have a deal for Graham to be McCain’s running mate should he be nominated. Also, McCain may run as independent if he loses the republican nomination. I used to think Graham was great, and he was during the Clinton impeachment. But I have lost respect for him now and never had any for McCain’s politics.

I don’t know if this went so will try again. My computer keeps disconnecting from the internet. The Democratic game plan to get Hillary elected will be a rerun of the 1992 and 1996 elections with John Mccain playing the part of Ross Perot. Bill Clinton never got more than 43% of the vote. and Hillary can’t do any better.

If McCain gets the Republican nomination, the Dems will run a swift boat vets type campaign using fellow POWs who will claim Mccain was a turncoat who betrayed his fellow POWs in exchange for better treatment, food and women visitors. At least on ex intel. agent has already been on talk radio claiming that “Songbird McCain” fathered several mixed race children while a POW.

If McCain does not get the Rep. nomination, they will run him as an independent to split the anti Hillary vote. McCain already has ties to George Soros who will back both his and Hillary’s campaigns.

McCain has been a thorn in George Bush’s side since he lost the Rep. Primary in 2000. If you remember he tied up Congress with his Campaign Finance Reform, preventing Bush from getting his Cabinet and judicial nominees aapproved, while the Dems. worked on Jeffords to get him to switch sides giving the Dems. control of the Senate. At the time Dem Party leaders went to Ariz. and there was speculation that McCain too would switch sides. McCain is vindictive and will stop at nothing to get even with those who humiliated him. If the Republican Party turns it’s back on him again he will do his best to destroy the Republican party. I am surprised that Lindsay Graham is not smart enough to know that tying his future to McCain’s coat tails is a no brainer.

I think Graham is acting like a JAG lawyer, which is what he is and McCAin has his own demons from the past. Warner says he wanted the measure to stand up to a ruling from the Spreme Court.

I think Bush is prepared to veto anything that he thinks is weak. The House is with him so a veto would stand. This could have something to do with trying to avoid a filibuster, but I do not think that Bush is done with this by a long shot.

It’s not in what happens to the terrorist. Who defines “degrading” and “inhumane” treatment?

  11. MerlinOS2 says:

Lawmakers can try to craft laws that are just and proper, but in my state we had one law working it’s way thru the state goverment that had as half it’s debate concerned with could it get past the ACLU. Talk about yer chilling effect.

  12. ivehadit says:

I think the dems and the gang of 14 want our troops to put on red coats and march in a straight line on the battle field..It’s the rules don’t you know.

And sense when has any terrorist CARED what the Geneva Convention has to say? It’s ridiculous in this day and age. Those rules are to constrain superpowers from dominating their enemies.

What other countries abide by these rules except the US and Britain? Seriously…this is outrageous and time to CHANGE THE MENTALITY of those that just accept things because “that’s the way we’ve always done it”.

Political correctness will eventually kill us. Actually PC has become so extreme that it is a joke now.
