“Bush Gets Wins On Terror…”
The title of this post a snippet (it doesn’t include the last word “bills”) from an interesting article from the Baltimore Sun. On an initial glance one would think administration has nabbed a terrorist leader, or stopped another attack in progress. Did we get a lead on Bin Laden? Did we make huge progress in Iraq?
No, these would all be wrong conclusions. Because the “win” is not on the battlefields overseas, or on Homeland defense. It is on the political battlefield and congressional bills – which in many ways implies Bush’s war on terror now has a new front with the Democrats. The essence of the article is political wins for Bush on his efforts to fix the issues of monitoring, interrogations and trials of terrorists. Sadly, the Democrats are now seen as aligned with the terrorists as they fight for terrorist privacy, terrorist rights to remain silent and terrorist rights at trial. Not that these folks are truly with the terrorists, but they are so mindlessly anti-Bush they end up side-by-side with them aligned in common causes like eliminating America’s presence in Iraq. Headlines like these will have a very subtle yet powerful affect on the elections. Maybe even subliminal. But it cannot be helped. When Bush wins against a Congress more afraid of possible misuse of power than of those terrorists attacks we know are in progress and which we need to find, the message cannot be more clear. A pol who is not fighting the terrorists overseas but is fighting our President over here is the person who has lost their way and is connecting the wrong dots. The dots we need to find and connect have to do with possible terrorist attacks – not with conspiracy theories about the Bush administration’s attack on America.
