Iraqi Time Tables – Mind Numbingly Stupid
Ralph Peters is on one of his frustration tears again, saying we should give Iraq one more year, then…
WITH 26 American troops dead in Iraq in the first nine days of October, the combination of bad news and pre-election politics has those on one bench arguing for bailing out immediately and those on the other bench frantic to pile on.
…
Give them one more year. And that’s it.
So let me get this straight. Our response to the terrorists deliberate efforts to escalate the violence in the run up to our elections should be answered with what they want? We should begin our retreat? First off, if we run away when things get marginally tougher (most of the country is not in the midst of all this violence) and we are seeing Sunni’s take up the charge against the insurgents, we will only invite more attacks. And when the pressure is off in Iraq, those attacks will spread out to Europe and America.
But worse is Peters’ attitude that those who died should be discarded because of pending polls and the regularly scheduled uptick in violence heading into our election cycle. If we were going to give up anyway – why did we let those 26 die in vane? Those quitting now in the face of bad polls and bad press are just showing how lesser of Americans they are as our military faces bombs and bullets. Press and polls can be dealt with. But anyone who backed the Iraqi operation and the continuation of the effort through the years cannot, in good concience, back out now.
Quitters remove themselves from the field of battle and deserve to be shunned by those still fighting. We need to stay strong in the face of both our mortal enemies (Islamo fascists) and our political challengers (the liberals who want to strengthen our enemies by surrendering to them). Folks, everyone I know who made a big mistake our had a terrible idea felt they were doing the right thing. And the more pressure that exists in a situation the more people make bad decisions. Frustration is not a source of intellectual fire power and historic insight. We can see that from 4 years of Democrats dealing with being the minority and a year of conservatives wringing their hands and panicking. We saw it in Pat Buchannan’s exit from the Republican party. Hopefully we will not see anymore of it. The nation and our military deserves better than all these crazy, quick fix ideas.
In reality, those of us not suffering from panic and frustration own this election. Many have shunned the whole mess:
“This could very well be a pox-on-both-parties election,” the independent election pollster said Friday. “The Republicans are severely wounded, but while Democrats are leading in the House races, it’s hard to see any enthusiasm there.”
One sign that the electorate was tuning out of this year’s nonstop political battles was the record-low voter turnout in the primaries, according to a new study by Curtis Gans, director of American University’s Center for the Study of the American Electorate.
Turn-out is low because we are tired of the games in DC and rejecting the ‘political discourse’, which sounds like mad ranting to most of us. If we decided to make our voices heard we could send a really strong message. That is what CT is doing with Lieberman.
I think the feeling on Iraq is about the same now as it was a month ago, 50/50. Surprising really that it was that high. I doubt it has really changed that much in a month. We have had bad months before.
One reason we have higher causlaties this month is that the US is being more aggressive right now. They are really pouring it on over there.
Every time a liberal opens his/her mouth to support cut and run gives our enemies hope that we will do so. What I can’t understand is that 50 years ago this would be giving aid and comfort to the enemy and they would be called traitors. What has happened?
The idea of the liberals caring if our soldiers die or not is ludicrous. The care nothing about the military. Perhaps if the draft was in effect and our young men were fighting against their will they might, only might, have a case. But the military is voluntary, so why do they care? Only for political reasons. After all, most of the military is republican. They cannot let George Bush bring peace to the ME after Slick Willie failed. That would not look good to the voters. And would also mess up Slick Willie’s so called legacy. Although, why getting a blow job in the oval office could be called a good legacy. So, what it boils down to is that the dems are willing to let the Iraqi people be sacrificed. Indeed the whole ME be sacrificed so that they, the dems,
can get back into power. I have said before that the dems are cold and callous people intent only on their own welfare. The country can go to hell as long as the part the dems control is left enough intact for them to make money and have power.
Terrye-wrong, Bush’s Iraq war support is down to 26%.
Barbie-doll….”50 years ago”??? I heard the same refrain during the Vietnam War era, itself an undeclared illegal war.
I have sported “support the troops, bring em home” regalia
since 2004 and am being proven increasingly correct in having
done so, as a majority of troops would agree. The Iraqis
have wanted us out since we overthrew Saddam-except the
Kurds and the Saddam loyalists, the latter of course never
having wanted us there in the first place.
Ken
I suppose you are saying that it is all right to give aid and comfort to the enemy if you don’t agree with the policies of the present government. You really should stop getting all your news from the Lefty Times and Kos. And how can you support the troops and still want to bring them home? What do you think the military is for if not to fight? Are they supposed to stay in the US and collect all the freebies given to the miliary and not earned if they don’t fight for their country which is their job? Or maybe they should be deployed to Okinawa as Murtha wants. Then when they are again needed in Iraq, they can fly 5000 miles across China or Russia. That would be good. And maybe they would be shot down by these countries. The left is so stupid or else they think the American people are. It sure looks like you have bought into their propaganda.
Ken
And another thing, you don’t call the men on this site derogatory names, why do you do this to the women? Maybe you have the superior male syndrome. Or maybe you are the type of guy who can beat up any woman on the block.
“Doll” is derogatory? Sounds like you’re a left feminist.
Hey, Barb, a leading UK military commander in Iraq is calling
for UK troops to leave, saying the war is lost. Haven’t you
heard? Is he a leftist,Barb? No, he’s a realist and as he says
he wants to save the troops for the fight at home rather than
sap them as al Qaeda wishes in Iraq.
We’ve got a fight at home too, Barbie. On the Rio Grande
border.
