Webb Implodes As He Runs As Journalist
What is as bad as politician telling you how you must live your life as they grab your income so they can give it to people who lived their lives in ways that led them to destitution and struggle? Having a journalist tell you how to live your life as they berate you for not being a caring human being because you think personal responsibility is part of the constitution. There is nothing worse than a nagging journalist who thinks they understand what they are glancing at.
So today, as James Webb claims using his own words as a window into his mind some kind of smear (I guess even he feels uncomfortable with himself), Webb claims he is worthy of the Senate because – get this – he was a journalist:
With some of the most forceful language he has used on the campaign trail, Webb said he was proud of his writing because it reflects the things he saw as a combat Marine in Vietnam and later as a journalist reporting on war-torn regions such as Beirut in the early 1980s.
…
“When George Allen and his campaign take some small excerpts from my novels and not only criticizes them but uses them to question my ethics, my profession, my character, that is a line that should never be crossed,” Webb said at Edgar Allen Poe Middle School in Annandale.
Journalists are not held in high esteem in this country – mainly because of how poor a job some of them do in reporting. There is too much reporting on a warped view of events skewed by personal ignorance and bias, instead of trying to comprehend what is happening from the experts and professionals and communicating that out. So I am not sure claiming his most important writing accomplishments were as a journalist.
Webb is all upset he had to go to Vietnam and Allen had a summer on a Ranch. Seems like all envy to me. We have seen the results of the Liberal War hero in John Kerry. The country finds these malcontents less hero and more dodger than anything else. Webb is in trouble because he is who he is. He apparently felt the need to add some disgusting sexual details to novels that must have been bereft of anything intriguing or of interest. The entertainment media often glosses over vacuous content with sexual trappings. Eye candy verses mind candy.
And in Webb’s continued pattern of demeaning and attacking women (remember, they only wanted to go into the military because the were ‘horny’) Webb lamely tries to attack Allen’s sister – while calling such attacks a smear.
On Friday, Webb, a former secretary of the Navy, said Allen’s sister, Jennifer, wrote a book that included descriptions of her brother’s harsh physical treatment of her. Allen said yesterday, “Her book is a novelization. . . . I didn’t write those passages in my sister’s book.”
Webb is the perfect netroots candidate: shallow, callous, devoid of something of value to offer to the debate, hung up on his ego. Which is why he will lose. We don’t elect people on the basis of how mad they are at being in the minority party. Who cares if the Democrats are tired of being in the minority – what are they offering outside of insults of the competition driven by gavel-envy?
The Webb campaign started all this crap, now he is pissed. Too bad.
I am sick of hearing who did and did not go to Viet Nam. I am old enough to remember that time and a lot of people did not go to Viet Nam. Howard Dean did not go to Viet Nam, Bill Clinton did not go to Viet Nam.
And as far as money is concerned the only guy running in the 2004 election who knew what it is like to be poor is Dick Cheney and I don’t see anyone cutting him any slack when it comes to the whole rich vs poor debate.
I agree. Webb started it – now he is crying “foul?” – pheh
Allen is already known in Virginia. He’ll win.
My surprise is that Webb’s comments and positions on women in the military weren’t enough by themselves to doom his candidacy. As a staunch Republican, I would never vote for a Republican candidate who voiced such demeaning comments. Seems to underline the shallow belief system of the Democrats that they find nothing wrong with this man.
Well, 2004 gave us Dan Blather’s exit in the blink of an eye.
And, here? When I first read Webb’s story-telling, I thought the dad decided to do a circumcision on the spot. Whatver. Mel Brooks, if he’s still making movies, could drag this scene out.
And, by the way, BORAT, the movie, is not just a great success, but its reviews are very positive. While FOX, thinking the opposite, reduced the number of theaters where the film is opening. Down from 2000. To 700.
Sometimes you just have to wonder how people earn salaries coming up with the crap they try to sell to the voting public?
We no C-BS has no eyes. But obviously, ears seem to be missing, as well.
And, I have to thank you so much! When you came up with your piece on TREND LINES. Where I had been counting on individuals.
Also, for pointing out that the “break” comes between Conservatives, who tally in at 64% of the voting population. While liberals get only 31%. My mistake? I had three parts. With a mainstream in the middle. Gosh, what a foolish model that was!
Up ahead? After election day will come reality. That running against Bush makes no sense at all. And, whatever the donks garner, up ahead, playing the anti-war opposition isn’t gonna see them seated in Congress. So, there will be a change in tune. They’ll have to hire others to cook up messages.
Meanwhile, it is entirely possible that Bush will discover the White House is a desirable player, and that cooperation pays off?
Not that slow learners learn anything. Only that time passes. And, it’s nice to know you can grow old and still learn something new every day.
Congress? How can the donks “win” in 2008, if they encourage the “House Divided” model? And, if they can change costumes, and start appearing like players on the American scene, what does that do to the TREND LINES leading to 2008?
You’re not thinking of 2008? Well, I am. I can see DeLay traveling this country, and gaining recognition and money. JUST AS REAGAN DID when Gerald Ford got beaten by Carter.
Who would I like to see get the GOP nomination in 2008? CHENEY. He’s actually my top choice. Wonder if he’s healthy enough? I don’t think midgets will get close to the brass ring. And, it’s more likely the donks will implode even more when they have to trot out some of their talent.
I don’t expect Bush to turn into a lame duck, now, either.
Strata approves of gay unions but disapproves of “digusting sexual details” in novels…bwaahahaha!
And everybody lurches to the left in applauding the liberal introduction of women into unprecedented battle roles in the military, for petty political purposes. As if the divorce rate
and pregnancies from the first phase of the “mother of all battles”
wasn’t instructive.
Yeah, I’m hinting, the second phase is ongoing…
Webb claims that his account of the man picking up the boy and putting the boy’s penis in his mouth is not sexual. Bullshit. If you look at how he wrote it, he very carefully and intentionally wrote it to maximally sexualize the event. He evidently thought it would be more interesting to readers that way.
The scene in Webb’s book, as described, is not only pedophilia but also incest. From what I have heard the scene added nothing to the plot or other contents. I’ll bet it was thrown in free gratis for other pedophilics to read and sell more copies that way. But this is the liberal mind, sex sells. Look at Hollywood. gratis sex scenes totally out sinc with the plot or purpose of the movie, installed just to draw people in. And the female stars prostituting themselves for this garbage to be, as they say, modern. When I saw Jennifer Lopez’s infamous dress I gave up on these people. These people have no morals and don’t want us to have any either. It is all meant to tear down the fabric of what our country stands for and bring in their “anything goes or if it feels good do it” mindset. These liberals think “flyover” country is full rubes and hicks who have no idea how the world order should be. They have no idea how wrong they are and we will never convince them. And frankly, I don’t want to even try.
