Plame it Again, Sam

Published by at 6:58 pm under All General Discussions,Plame Game

I have been suggesting on many boards and here that Valerie Plame and Joe Wilson may be the ones being investigated by the Grand Jury for the leak. I have a whole category on the subject now and have been over at Redstate debating the issues here, here and here.

Why do I think that? Well all the obvious options have fallen by the wayside. Plame’s employment was well known in the media elite social circles of DC which the Wilson’s probably dabbled in. At least according to Andrea Mitchell. And the law covering the outing of a covert agent requires knowledge of the covert status and having covert status. Plame’s covert role was feared blown by Richard Ames so was back at Langley heading up WMD proliferation studies, caring for two newborn twins in 2000.

So if not this classified information, then what classified information is the grand jury and special prosecutor looking at which was leaked. Well, Joe Wilson leaked his findings in Niger, which while bogus were classified as the latest estimate of Saddam’s nuclear intentions.

I felt I was out on a limb here a bit until Redstate pointed me to this interview at National Review between Byron York and Rove’s attorney Luskin:

Luskin also addressed the question of whether Rove is a “subject” of the investigation. Luskin says Fitzgerald has told Rove he is not a “target” of the investigation, but, according to Luskin, Fitzgerald has also made it clear that virtually anyone whose conduct falls within the scope of the investigation, including Rove, is considered a “subject” of the probe. “‘Target’ is something we all understand, a very alarming term,” Luskin says. On the other hand, Fitzgerald “has indicated to us that he takes a very broad view of what a subject is.”

Finally, Luskin conceded that Rove is legally free to publicly discuss his actions, including his grand-jury testimony. Rove has not spoken publicly, Luskin says, because Fitzgerald specifically asked him not to.

So that would include Plame, Wilson and probably Judith Miller now in jail – most likely protecting herself. If you read this article it is clear Matt Cooper is not only a two faced exaggerator – he wanted out of the cross hairs. He was grasping for a way out of jail, pleading with Rove’s council to ensure he was released to squeel like the pig he is.

So now we have come down to the essence of the Plame/Wilson story. I stand by my prediction that an investigation is underway concerning a rogue CIA agent who conspired with her husband to foster erroneous intelligence on Saddam’s nuclear intentions in order to ‘destroy the Neocons” [paraphrasing a quote from Wilson]. It probably includes release of classified information to the media and press, and may include a conspiracy with a zealot NYTimes reporter.

Speculation? Of course. But it does fit all the facts very nicely.

    Thank you for your insight.

It makes sense. I could never understand why Joseph wilson wasn’t being “frogmarched” to Gitmo for blabbing about a highly sensitive mission on the Op-ed pages of the NY Times.

It doesn’t explain why Judith Miller is keeping her mouth shut, but it certainly explains why Novak and Rove don’t seem to be worried about their future.

    Patch,

It makes sense. It is pure speculation and Miller may be the true target of the investigation. But Rove and Bush and Co. do not seem the least bit worried.

Great name for a blog site – The Pamphleteer!

    Excellent.

Intrepid AJ offers an interesting theory to explain Plamegate:
Valerie Plame and Joe Wilson may be the ones being investigated by the Grand Jury for the leak.
Why do I think that? Well all the obvious options…

great stuff AJ. this would make a great novel.

I’ve been taking an unannounced blogging break, but I’ll be sure to link you up tomorrow (as well as making my semi-break “official”). Yes, I could do it tonight, but I’m being lazy 😛 (and not that there’re many peeps who would find your theory from Rove…I mean me, first anyway).

Tom Maguire has given would-be journalists an invaluable gift by practically giftwrapping fruitful lines of inquiry for PlameGate (including Joe Wilson Interviewed By Fitzgerald – are you listening, AJ?)…

Meanwhile, a terrible day in Iraq, as 14…
