Right Over The Cliff

Published by at 12:15 pm under All General Discussions

I like Michell Malkin much of the time. But then there comes other times where she just over reacts and starts batting at ghosts in her mind’s eye. She is out breaking Reagan’s 11th commandment again by associating an elected Rep official with those evil muslims:

On the GOP side, Debbie Schlussel raises a red flag about terror-friendly Calif. Republican Rep. Darrell Issa–who could become the Republican Policy Committee Chairman tomorrow:

In October 2001, the London Arabic newspaper Al-Hayat reported that Issa had just offered Hezbollah’s leadership a deal to get Hezbollah off the State Department’s Terrorist List and “normalize U.S. relations with” the group. Hezbollah refused the offer. Then, in May 2003, he publicly proposed legitimizing Hezbollah by giving Lebanon $500 million of U.S. taxpayer money to disarm the group and turn it into a political party.

Issa told the Financial Times, “Hezbollah does in fact have a limited scope. You must differentiate . . . from other organizations that might have a global reach.” Yet it murdered 86 and wounded hundreds in a 1994 Buenos Aires attack. It’s also tied to the 1996 Khobar Towers bombing that killed 19 U.S. soldiers in Saudi Arabia.

You want this guy developing leadership policy for the GOP? Hello?!

Well Hello! Does Michelle know that Hezbollah ingratiates itself in Lebanon and other areas by being more than a terrorist outfit? Does Michelle know that Hezbollah also does charity and pays for much of the education and medical care in the regions they hold sway? All Issa was trying to do was negotiate something with these people – like Israel does all the time. Clearly, if we could get Hezbollah to disarm and focus on the charity, education and medical efforts we would be heading in a better direction. Now is this feasible? Probably not. But we have to understand the realities and deal with them – Hello!

BTW, I agree with her concern and questioning of CAIR and Conyers and those who side with terrorists too much. But the slap at Issa was just way over the top.

Also, this post is why I read Michelle.

Malkin lost me with the Harriet Meirs debacle. She has the habit lately of jumping in full speed ahead without waiting for all the facts. Her attitude at that time (and others like her) was the end of the world was at hand if they couldn’t get one of the judges on their list. Same with Dubai port issue. I trusted GWB then and I trust him now to do the best he can for the country. He has in the past and I feel he will in the future. And don’t look now, but the chance of getting one of GWB’s picks for the courts now is slim to none.

Malkin lost me on the Dubai ports deal. To read her you would have thought that World Ports was going to fire every worker here and staff the ports with foreign Arabs or something. That and the whole “send a brick to Congress” thing were just childish.

Yes, we can all sometimes have strong feelings on an issue but letting our emotions drive us is probably not a good idea if we want people to take us seriously.

I think AJ’s name-calling during the Ports controversy was a lot more emotional (and over the top) than Michelle’s posts during the same time period. She’s been consistently skeptical of lax U.S. immigration and security, and her stated concerns were consistent with that.

The pro-immigration segment of the Republican party has just as consistently called proponents of immigration reform racists and worse. I think that they’ve violated Reagan’s 11th commandment enough that they’re in no position to point fingers.

AJ has led the way on this during the last election cycle. He told everyone that the Republicans would hold majorities, even when most polls clearly indicated the opposite. He then tries to tell his readers that the stupid anti-immigration conservatives lost the election for Republicans, even though it’s obvious voters were turned off by a directionless policy in Iraq, corruption scandals, and business-as-usual pork barrel politics. He also has ignored most opinon polls on immigration, which show that a majority of voters are concerned about lax border security, illegal immigration, and a general lack of assimilation by legal immigrants.

Please, AJ, take the plank out of your own eye before you try to remove the sawdust speck form your neighbor’s eye. Then you’ll be in a better position to see clearly enough to help her.

Maybe Michelle’s out of control commentary on this subject has to do with her husband’s influence. Issa is right but he is helpless
against the “Lobby.” Hezbollah has the sympathy and admiration of
many perhaps most Lebanese Chrsitians now. Lebanese disapproval of America reached 64% in the latest poll due to Bush/US funding and push of Israel’s barbaric invasion.

Still, America’s ports should be fully maintained by American
    companies.

Yes, as if strangers asking nosy questions ina country like Lebanon are going to give 100% honest answers…

What’s wrong, Ken, did you get turned down for a date by a young lady of the Jewish persuasion?

Michelle lost me on mIers and it has gotten worse. Sometimes I wonder if she is on Soros’s payroll. All she does is bitch.

  7. For Enforcement says:

Michelle is NOT on Soros payroll, she is a real conservative. She has the same faults as we do, she is wrong sometimes, but believe me, she’s not the enemy. Just because she’s passionate, don’t throw her away, she’s one of the good guys. There are a few others of us that tend to bitch also. That’s why we’re here to express an opinion. Hell, it wouldn’t be fun if we all sang Cume ba ya would it?
Have fun and keep on expressing your opinion. I am.

  8. The Macker says:

    AJ,
Michelle Malkin is a mixed bag. Same with Schlussel and several others.

Agree that some on the Right misrepresented the Du Bai Ports deal and undercut the Pres. Same with immigration. But, not sure it’s smart to do business with Hezbollah, an agent of Iran.

Adults reading this blog understood you weren’t a pollster and they weren’t “betting the ranch” on your “predictions.” The polls deserved scrutiny and still do.

  9. AJStrata says:

    Macker,

You need more than a dumb idea to cast someone as being pro terrorist. Blair just came out and proposed ways Syria and Iran could help in Iraq. Another dumb idea – but Blair is not pro terrorists. It is the wild accusation based on flimsy evidence that is, actually, criminal. Like I said, he was trying to propose ways to focus Hezbollah on their outreach work. You are being reasonable. Michelle was not.

And slandering someone is more than a ‘mixed bag’.

  10. The Macker says:

    AJ,
    Agree.
But still should keep Hezbollah on short leash.

  11. Barbara says:

Bush was so passionate about the Dubai port deal that I felt he had a deal with the Emirates regarding the GWOTand knew more than the general public. He wouldn’t have stuck his neck out so far if he hadn’t. I should think the knowledge that the Chinese are managing some of the California ports is a greater cause for concern. This is what I mean when I say Malkin went off half cocked without all the facts.

Another amusing note for the dems is that I read the only American company who is in the business of managing ports if Brown and Root , you know the dreaded Haliburton. I thought then and think now that that was a laugh. After all the dems were demanding we use an American company to manage the ports and nothing else would do.

In regard to Issa, I think she again jumped the gun on flimsy evidence.

    “See, I told you so…”
    By Michelle Malkin · November 16, 2006 06:24 PM
“I noted six days ago that folks who were getting hysterical over the not-yet-filed, publicity-seeking lawsuit against Don Rumsfeld should calm down before going ballistic on Germany.

Well, lookee here: Time magazine, which hyped the scoop, is now pulling an Emily Litella. Suit’s not likely to happen, after all.

Allah has more on the anatomy of a non-story.

Now, aren’t you glad we didn’t go closing our military bases in Germany over this?”

  13. MerryJ1 says:

I didn’t read the Malkin piece on Issa, so obviously I’m not commenting on that. But I think trying to negotiate anything with Hezbollah would be analogous to advising the intended victims of serial killers to attend conciliation counseling with their stalkers.

How many times and ways do Islamists have to tell us they intend to destroy us and feel no obligation to deal truthfully or honorably with non-Muslims, before we understand they intend to destroy us and feel no obligation to deal truthfully or honorably with non-Muslims? We must and will abide by terms of any negotiated agreements, knowing they will not negotiate in good faith and will not consider themselves bound by any terms they agree to? Are we feeble-minds?

Yes, the Iranian chiefs who control Hezbollah are very savvy about effective PR as well as propaganda, and as admirable as their “charitable instincts” and activities may appear, such as replacing homes destroyed in the recent Israeli return fire on Lebanon, that funding was partially or wholly paid with counterfeit US currency. Guess who picks up that tab?

Opinion Journal had links to some of it, in photographic form, of stacks the size of lumber mill piles but of whole, uncut sheets of Ben Franklins exposed in the rubble of Hezbollah headquarters in Lebanon. Both Iran and North Korea turn out US currency that looks as good as anything out of our own Treasury Department.

  14. Ken says:

    Strata

“another dumb idea” (Blair saying Syria and Iran should be conferred with in a manner as to help America in Iraq.)

I would love to see your expression when dear leader buckles to the
obvious NECESSITY of gaining at least Iran’s co-operation for
Iraq to become pacified and stabilized.

(Or he could just redeploy, and call it victory, leaving you in
at least a better position to do your Bushophile spinning.)

Could you hook in a studio cam or some such?

  15. gumshoe says:

“BTW, I agree with her concern and questioning of CAIR and Conyers and those who side with terrorists too much.”

    what,exactly,
is “siding with terrorists *too much*”??

  16. the good doctor says:

Leave Malkin alone. Free speech, she can say what she wants.

  17. For Enforcement says:

Gumshoe, correct, any siding with terrorists is ‘too much’

  18. Ken says:

    For Enforcement

Does that mean you will rant and rave against the inevitable
amnesty given to “terrorists”, including those who killed US
troops, by the next Iraqi government, which amnesty is the only way
they will bring it to a halt?
