Radiation Shows Up In Hamburg, Germany

OK, one more piece in the puzzle as radiation has been detected in the Hamburg apartment of Dmitry Kuvton:

German police say they have found indications of radiation in an apartment apparently used by a contact of fatally poisoned former Russian spy Alexander Litvinenko.

The traces of radiation turned up in the northern city of Hamburg in the apartment used by Dmitry Kovtun, apparently the same man who met Litvinenko in London on November 1, the day he is believed to have fallen mortally ill.

“There are indications that there has been a source of radiation there, but no source of radiation has been found,” said Ulrike Sweden, a spokeswoman for Hamburg police.

Next question is where did this Polonium come from prior to Hamburg and was it destined for London? I now there is this amazing tea cup story and how it contaminated a dish washer. But people take drinks in their rooms and we have no idea which cup or glass or whatever contaminated the dishwasher. We still have contaminated rooms – which get cleaned during the day and may have been the source not only for the dirty cup, but residue on many other items like dishes and glasses. So while the media grasps the assassin theory, we have one path for the smuggling angle (which is now clearly something that must also have happened).

    update:
The traces of radiation were not found in Kovtun’s apartment but in another residence in the same block, a spokesman for the Hamburg regional criminal investigation unit said.

Police did not find a radiation source during their search of the apartment block in the Ottensen district of the northern port city, but the traces could be a sign that a source of radiation had been there, the spokesman added

This discovery bolsters the idea that there were multiple runs since Kovtun returned to Russia on Nov. 3 with Lugovoi. He probably went to Hamburg after one of the other accidents. I wonder if the Brits are looking into this also.

  3. Lizarde1 says:

Per a German article at Die Welt, a news ban is on on this and the journalists have been thrown out because of possible danger of contamination. Police are requesting people who had contact with Kovtun to get in touch with police.

  4. Enlightened says:

Well, hating to point out the obvious – if Litvinenko, Lugovoi, Berezovsky, Zakayev and Scaramella, were/are smugglers – they would be under arrest – since they clearly handled and transported, or aided and abetted the handling and transportation of a radioactive illegal substance.

  5. the good doctor says:

If there several runs …how many cities were going to get hit? Not much needed for a dirty bomb.

  6. Enlightened says:

Hmmm. wondering in Lugovoi was in this hospital – how convenient for a fire to break out. Just speculating.

Kovtun did not track any into his apartment in Hamburg so far as the Germans are reporting – however he may have had some stored nearby – the apartment the police found the trace in is sealed off etc but nobody has been arrested – maybe the owner was gone or the apartment is deserted – not yet divulged by the German press .

    WOW!

  9. clarice says:

It is more consistent with a theory that someone else was tracking him to kill him and the smuggler or poisoner.
Enlightened it right that if the police suspected any of those listed, they’d not have been released. Britain BTW has a legal long detention without charges law appliacble to terrorism.

As for the hospital fire, I a m sure of the press knew that Kovtun was there they’d have reported it. OTOH the unknown assaassin may have been there and it would appear to be a sure fire way of preventing an investigation of that floor.

If this was a smuggling ring, all the alleged main players are either dead, sick or not charged with any crime. And a murder occurred. Not an accident – a murder. Radiation found in Hamburg could have been there 6 months ago – or longer.

Okay. Police in Hamberg are checking.

It’s like you an I recognize HOW YOU COULD TELL if there was Polonium in the apartment?

    Is it big?

    Is it small?

    Does it make sounds?

Can you see it if you wear goggles. And, use a black light?

It sounds so easy, here. But what are they looking FOR?

Could it be in the refrigerator? Or freezer? Can you hide this easily? The way people did with money or jewels when they were worried about thefts?

While the same cast of characters, it seems, have moved around a lot.

And, Litvenko’s body was NOT allowed INTO the mosque, proper, for his services, because the Imam feared contamination.

You mean the Imams are getting more informed about “radiation leaks” than the information Litvenenko had? Or is this coming about because there’s hanky-panky?

Would the average imam now want to store “suitcase nukes” for later use?

Or would there be great attempts to get rid of the evidence BEFORE the cops come AND LOOK FOR “IT.”

    What’s “it?”

  13. Enlightened says:

    So, the 3 most exposed:

    Litvinenko – Dead
    Kuvtun – Very Ill
    Lugovoi – Ill

Am I right that these 3 met 1 Nov at the Pine Bar? At the same time?

  14. clarice says:

    Yes, you are, enlightened.

  15. Enlightened says:

I’m gonna stick with the theory right now that the assassin posed as a Millenium employee.

The 3 KGB/FSB comrades would have been suspicious of someone else getting near their table/area – but not an employee.

  16. clarice says:

It’s a distinct possibility. And a waiter could also have access to hotel rooms–delivering room service, couldn’t he/she?

  17. Enlightened says:

Yes – The bar/restuarant staff are also used as room service providers.

I think they were all poisoned at the bar. I think the spill in the room was vomit – and that led authorities to “food/drink” and not, say injected poison…..

  18. wiley says:

Yes, the facts sure don’t point to a “smuggling ring” — that term implies an arrangement that has been up and working, connected people making big $ in the black market. A one-time, or first time attempt to acquire PO? Perhaps, but the accidental exposure everywhere doesn’t add up, not with one guy 20X more affected than all the others.
Assassination is the more likely and, apparently, too obvious for some to believe. But how can you dismiss the widespread power-play by Putin? Silencing all the dissidents and his many critics? And Russia/Soviet/KGB history of using torture & excruciatingly painful, messy deaths to make a point? Spare me about Putin risking starting another war by possibly contaminating other people in a foreign country. As if this will ever get back to Putin. And why do the skeptics think one assassin?
For the smuggling theorists, maybe Russia/FSB (Putin) knew about the desire of Sasha & friends to acquire PO, and so they let them have it, so to speak, and it got quite messy.

  19. Enlightened says:

I’m thinking the assassin was there to take out Litvinenko, saw the 3 of them, thought they might remember him if Litvinenko croaked – so he dropped them a mickey too – The main dose was for his target, his leftovers he gave to Kuvtun and Lugovoi….

  20. Barbara says:

Probably the reason Bereszovsky and Zakayev have not been arrested is because they police have not found any evidence they were involved. They probably covered their tracks very well. But the indisputable fact is that Litvinenko worked for Bereszovsky and lived either next door or across the street from Zakayev and was an ardent Chechen supporter as was Zakayev.

    Clarice and Enlightened

Are you saying the assassin posed as a waiter and doctored the drinks of these three guys at the Millenium after 4:30. How do you explain Scaramella’s contamination and what he says is 5x the fatal dose also the contamination on the table where they sat at the sushi bar? And if polonium was dispensed at a crowded bar with excited patrons milling around why is there no major contamination found? This assassin would have been taking a terrific chance there would be no spills and no major contamination in this bar.
