Radiation Shows Up In Hamburg, Germany

OK, one more piece in the puzzle as radiation has been detected in the Hamburg apartment of Dmitry Kuvton:

German police say they have found indications of radiation in an apartment apparently used by a contact of fatally poisoned former Russian spy Alexander Litvinenko.

The traces of radiation turned up in the northern city of Hamburg in the apartment used by Dmitry Kovtun, apparently the same man who met Litvinenko in London on November 1, the day he is believed to have fallen mortally ill.

“There are indications that there has been a source of radiation there, but no source of radiation has been found,” said Ulrike Sweden, a spokeswoman for Hamburg police.

Next question is where did this Polonium come from prior to Hamburg and was it destined for London? I now there is this amazing tea cup story and how it contaminated a dish washer. But people take drinks in their rooms and we have no idea which cup or glass or whatever contaminated the dishwasher. We still have contaminated rooms – which get cleaned during the day and may have been the source not only for the dirty cup, but residue on many other items like dishes and glasses. So while the media grasps the assassin theory, we have one path for the smuggling angle (which is now clearly something that must also have happened).

They were together in the bar BEFORE the sushi bar meeting, Barbara. I think that’s when it was done.

Enlightened, the vomit theory is interesting. If so, is it possible that one of those poisioned was able to get enough out of his system so that his death will be slower than Litvinenko’s? All the stuff I’ve read say that a fatal dose does the job in 21 days and it’s past that point now for the others.

Hey – Litvinenko knew something was up. He was a KGB agent – he was watching everything that moved. So were his buddies. He probably even was watching the serving staff – and what he/they served him was asked for, and looked totally innocuous. If he suspected anything he would have jumped up and started a ruckus. The assassin made it look very normal. I’m thinking the assassin could have been a woman – and maybe not Russian. They would have been suspicious of anyone that appeared Russian. A pretty woman is way less noticeable.

    COuld be,

I’m interested in how quickly the Brits have zeroed in on everything–including the planes to check. I’m certain they know a great deal more than has been reported. If it was one of the waiters, perhaps they have that person in custody/under surveillance/ or know he/she has skipped out.

  4. clarice says:

Also, how quickly the Germans have acted. I can see why they’d check Kovtun’s apt..but another apt in the same block–that seems to have been some tip.

Firstly, IIRC – we cannot put all three (exposed) men in the room on the 4th floor of the Millenium – yes? So if it was vomit, there would be DNA that matched one of them – yes? So that would be interesting to know for sure.

As for Scaramella – he was exposed at a secondary location, with only Litvinenko present, but is less exposed than Lugovoi and Kuvtun, and after the main exposure. Litvinenko had to have exposed him. They did not share any cups etc, food, ot whatnot. So it had to be by inhalation. I’m wondering if Litvinenko was having a coughing fit, and Scaramella inhaled it repeatedly somewhat like catching a virus from someone coughing near you – if the cough sputum/spray had blood in it – Scaramella would have breathed that in too – I guess we won’t know until Scaramella gives details of their meeting –

    Enlightened,

“A pretty woman is way less noticeable.”

A more false statement has never been written. I always find pretty women quite noticeable!

Well, if the Brits don’t have that person in custody (going along with the waiter theory), they never will – gone or dead. The Brits may have been quick with some parts invesitigation, but not quick enough. I’m afraid this will all dry up real soon, ecxcept maybe a few more people going away.

  8. Weight of Glory says:

Let’s say it was a waiter. In a previous post I asked if it was possible for the assassin to avoid the contamination that apparently covered much of a town, three planes, and many innocent people. To this Enlightened said yes, and posited that the assassin would have worn some sort of protective clothing. Here is the problem: how does the assassin administer the poison, while taking precautions to protect himself, without tipping off the victims, or at the very least drawing attention to himself/herself in the process? No, I’m thinking if it was an assassin, that person is feeling pretty ill right about now.

  9. Enlightened says:

WoG- The assassin cannot be contaminated unless he also ingests the PO210 – He cannot get it from contact with his skin. He dropped the boys a mickey and said seeya – no vapor to inhale, no liquid to drink – nada.

As for the mickey, I’m thinking it was disguised as sugar – a main ingredient added to – tea. I’m thinking the assassin may have served Sasha his tea, and asked “one lump or two”? and dropped in a bomb.

  10. clarice says:

At a classy place like the millenium, they have sugar tongs so no one need tough it, if it was a cube.

Russians BTW traditionally, hold the cube between their teeth when they drink–These guys may not have. It looks funny to Brits I’m sure.

  12. Weight of Glory says:

    Enlightened,

“He cannot get it from contact with his skin.”

Then why, in response to my previous question, in a previous post, did you say that the assassin protect himself/herself by wearing protective clothing?

  13. Enlightened says:

Has it been established if Sasha and the boys frequented the Millenium? Retired spooks, and someone that is anticipating an assassination attempt – usually frequent the same places so they can observe the staff and get to know who is who – so if anyone “strange” shows up – their eyes and ears prick up.

Do some classy hotels have their wait staff wear white gloves? Am I dreaming that?

  14. clarice says:

In Europe they often do wear white gloves when serving.

I believed on the other occasions they stayed in different hotels..That’s why they found traces of PO in those rooms from earlier trips.

  15. wiley says:

I’ve never been to UK, but wouldn’t it be normal to serve the cubes in a bowl, for the customer to drop in as they wish? All the cubes or ones at the top would be spiked … maybe Sasha used 2,3 or 4, and the others less.

  16. Weight of Glory says:

Also, I have yet another question for the assassin theorists. You have two assassination/murder attempts recently, Viktor Yushenko and Anna Politkovskaya. One was poisoned and one was shot. Both are “unsolved” but one was successful and one was not. One sent the right message and one did not.

  17. clarice says:

Anna was poisoned first. That failed. (It was on a plane). THEN she was shot.

  18. wiley says:

It’s all perspective … successful? Anna P was killed and what kind of reverb did Russia & Putin have to weather? Not much, not enough — successful. Yushenko? Well, he’s in power, but what penalty was there? Very little, nothing lasting that I’m aware of. Message still served.

  19. clarice says:

Wiley, in a fancy hotel they’s have waht they call caster sugar, cube sugar and maybe even coarse brown sugar and sugar substitutes on a tray with tongs and spoon.

  20. wiley says:

Fancy, but maybe more casual setting, serving in the bar?
