Surge And Suppress

Published by at 10:40 pm under All General Discussions,Iraq

Operation surge is definitely more active than even I suspected. It seems today more militants were confronted and sent on their way to Allah as major fighting broke out near Baghdad. I would say the Iraqis look pretty serious and are beginning to work up to their role defending their country. This battle is the second such large scale operation in so many weeks. I hope we see more of this swamp draining. It will have an effect. One cannot help but ponder the view of al Qaeda right now. They must be wondering where are the Democrats and their promise of surrender. Al Qaeda should have realized the Dems penchant for surrender includes backing down on their promises.

Asad Abu Ghalal, the governor of Najaf Province, said the fighters in the orchard were Iraqi and foreign, some wearing the brown, white and maroon regalia of Pakistani and Afghan fighters. He said they had come to assassinate Shiite clerics and attack religious convoys that were gathering in Najaf, one of Shiite Islam’s holiest cities, and other southern cities for Ashura, a Shiite holiday that starts Monday night and runs through Tuesday morning.

And of course, the dems keep claiming their are no al Qaeda in Iraq and the real war is in Afghanistan. Tell that to those foreign fighters lying dead in the palm grove. Apparently they do not exist.

Elsewhere in the heavily Shiite south, there were other signs of potential strikes on Ashura. Officials in Karbala said the police arrested three men on Sunday — a Saudi, an Afghan and a Moroccan — who were found on the road between Najaf and Karbala with a suicide bomb belt and explosives in their car. The officials said the vehicle had been hollowed out so it could be used as a car bomb.

Now who are you going to believe – antiwar dems or your own lying eyes. These people could not possibly be terrorists from other countries. I am sure they were bearing gifts for Pelosi and Murtha on their travels through Iraq. Bet not too many folks were happy to see that duo lurking about.

Yes, I think things are happening. I heard that a lot of the militia leaders are going to Iran, where a good many of them were before the fall of Saddam anyway.

Another religious holiday? sheesh. Every time you turn around there is a religious holiday or a pilrgramage or some kind of gathering. Might as well wave a red flag in front of a bull.

Serious problem in the Surge Plan:

Last week the Bush surge plan was by Iraq hawks, like Sen. John McCain, concerned that the split command structure for the operation violates basic military doctrine.

The Baghdad surge plan, announced on Jan. 10, calls for new U.S. soldiers to be embedded with Iraqi forces, who will take the lead. While the U.S. troops would report to American officers, their Iraqi counterparts would report to Iraqi officers. The potentially disastrous result: two separate and independent command structures within the same military operation.

I know of no successful military operation where you have dual command

McCain told Lt. Gen. David Petraeus, the new commander of U.S. forces in Iraq, during a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing last Tuesday.

Petraeus, heralded by the Bush White House as the man who would make the surge work, signaled his agreement, telling McCain

    Sir, I share your concern.

The American Enterprise Institute’s Frederick Kagan expressed his fears in an interview Friday about putting the Iraqis in charge and establishing two separate chains of command. “This is a major issue,” he said. “In any military operation, dual chains of command are a problem. I think the administration has made a mistake.”

What a lot of cherry picking. And let’s rush to judgement and say the surge has no chance before all the military are even in Iraq. Way to go. Such patriotism. Oops, I forgot, don’t question your patriotism. We all know how lefties want the good of the country at all times. But then your whole object is for us to lose so Bush doesn’t win. That is the whole basis of this cut and run crap. So, as you see, we know the modus operandi of the left and you are not pulling the wool over our eyes just over your own. Or maybe it is all that sand in your eyes. From burying your head, you know.
