During his time, there were two issues radicals were burning to use. The abolishion of slavery. AND, the prohibition of drink. And, on these two, during the 1850′s, Lincoln saw the Whigs unable to survive. They just dissolved. (That’s why Lincoln joined the republican ticket.)

He also did NOT campaign, once he was nominated in 1860. He knew if he gave speeches, the press would destroy him, and hang albatrosses around his neck.

If the Admnistration thinks that elected officials reflecting the views of 60-70% of their constituency, and attempting to remove troops from harm’s way, somehow constitute undermining the military – let the cowards in the White House and the Department of Justice charge them with treason and institute legal process. We are a nation of laws – and the Constitution is the supreme law of the land.

LOL. First, calling Frank Gaffney part of the “news media” is bit of a leap. And, of course, you cannot be expected to hoof it out to the rough and tumble reporter’s street, to ascertain the truth or falsity of this “breaking news” on the Lincoln quote. It is, however, much welcomed that you finally acknowledge that your daily multiple bloviations on items in the media is something that you can’t be expected to (and do not) “fact check”, even when you easily could, right from your cozy-chair. When it is clear that an Administration has lead a nation into an elective war based on confabulated reports of Weapons of Mass Destruction and fictitious alliances between al-Qaeda and Saddam Hussein, Lincoln would have been the first Republican to stand up and demand that George Bush justify his ill-advised escalation of the war in Iraq.
