Tied Turning Against Insurgents In Iraq

Published by at 9:55 am under All General Discussions,Bin Laden/GWOT,Iraq

It was only a matter of time before the Iraqi’s would realize they were the ones dyinig for Jihad, not the Americans or the Iraqi government. The fact is al Qaeda has killed more Muslims than anyone in this global conflict, and they are fast approaching the level of bloodshed only a few, like Saddam Hussein, could boast about. So is it any wonder it is the Iraqis themselves tipping off the coalition to the bomb factories and foreign fighters?

ips that led to the discovery of a bomb-making factory in western Iraq demonstrate that the Iraqi people are fed up with terrorists operating in their midst and stepping forward to help remove them, said military officials in Baghdad.

Officials from 3rd Brigade, 509th Parachute Infantry Regiment, Regimental Combat Team 6, briefed reporters about a search for weapons caches that ultimately led to the bomb factory Feb. 20 in Gharmah, about 10 miles east of Fallujah. Army CPT Matt Gregory, Commander of Company A, described the materials uncovered during the raid: blasting caps, ballistic glass used in up-armored Humvees, and five vehicles, one full of propane tanks and initiation devices.

But only when the team continued its mission and found a chemical workshop and metal workshop did they realize the significance of their find, CPT Gregory said. They found homemade explosives and “quite a sizable selection of chemicals,” including canisters of chlorine, several 55-gallon barrels of nitric acid and several bags of fertilizer, as well as a Russian bomb.

“At that point, we realized that this objective was a lot bigger than what we had planned for and what we had ever hoped to find,” he said. The team returned after daylight to continue the search, he said, finding mortar and artillery rounds, rockets and enemy documents.

Army LTC Valery Keaveny, the brigade commander, called the cooperation that led to the find proof that the Iraqi people don’t like living under the intimidation campaign al Qaeda has imposed on them. When the brigade first arrived at Camp Fallujah in the fall, “we quickly found the local civilians were terrorized and were threatened, and they did not like life under al Qaeda. They wanted a way out,” LTC Keaveny said. “And we found very quickly that, once we showed our compassion and our professionalism, they would be willing to work with us.

I just have to draw the country’s attention to the last line here (emphasis mine). While the Dems think of ways to ‘bleed’ our forces out of Iraq, our brave men and women are showing the Iraqis the true face of America. Our fighting forces are volunteers from all over this great country and are the best ambassadors we have in this conflict. The Iraqis have lived under three decades of anti-American propaganda, so it is not hard to see why trust had to be built up over the last few years. But while al Qaeda is killing Iraqis by the thousands, Americans are dying trying to stop them. And over time the message becomes clear. A message which cannot be conveyed if we redeploy out of Iraq. A message muddled by the left who seem to side with the Islamo Fascists and sow doubt into the very people we need to stand up and help us. They won’t do that if they think we could bolt and run in the next month.

We are making a difference. It was never going to be done in the timeframe of a TV season. That is because this is reality. And that is because the region had been left to fester too long. We hoped the terrible status quo would contain the anger of a mass of people, but it did not. And now we have the opportunity AND the ability to fix all this. As long was we ignore the professional handwringers who want to ride defeat to personal victory and power.

It seems, AJ, that George had to let the Iraqi people know that he was committed to them through thick (Iraqi elections) and thin(US ’06 elections). And that he had to prove that the US was not interested in occupying Iraq…and to do this the President has had to suffer many personal and political attacks by those who have no principles, within and without…who used the President’s courage and brave actions against him…knowing he could not defend himself properly or it would destroy the trust that he was building with the Iraqi’s.

The Iraqi’s have been abused for 30 years. The democrats wanted them to just “get over that” in a flash, it seems. Most abused spouses NEVER get over the abuse in their lifetimes. But that’s the dems for ya…only thinking of themselves…never gave a rat’s patootie about the suffering of the Iraqi people or any others in the Middle East, while the hatred for America was building. Cowards and/or lazy they are, imho as well as America-haters.

I think the Iraqi’s have been miraculous…as has the President. G_d bless them.

    Tied Turning?

Tied? Does that mean we go into overtime?? Sudden death??? Can you at least spell your headlines correctly????

  3. lurker9876 says:

Like Wells understand the implications of that note submitted to Walton yesterday, “Tied Turning” makes perfect sense. It does not mean sudden death. No, it doesn’t mean going into overtime.

    ivehadit,
    Agree.
Further, he’s been betrayed by some in his own administration. And some very bad actors in congress are betraying us all as we watch.

Macker, the other day I asked if you were the same Macker who frequently comments at Blogs for Bush. You indicated you weren’t. I think I had you confused with this guy. Any relation?

The mantra of the Left has, for some time, been that Al Qaeda and other foreign fighters only account for 3-5% of the violence in Iraq. I’m betting, as we kill and capture more of them, we’re going to find that the number is a whole lot higher than that, and that a significant percentage of the sectarian violence is being fomented by outsiders.

    RS,
Thanks for the lead to Macker’s World. There’s no familial relationship, but common political views and shared enthusiasm for Mac computer technology. I will continue to check out his site.

If we can make a difference in the Middle East, one country, by staying as long as need be, it will change everything. It is worth a try. This is not a political decision this is chance in our life time.

If we can make a difference in the Middle East, one country, by staying as long as need be, it will change everything.

Unfortunately, according to Gen. William Odom – we HAVE made a difference in Iraq. We’ve made things worse in the Middle East.

  10. Soothsayer says:

But hey, don’t take my word for it – or even that of Gen. Odom. Let’s hear from Ambassador Timothy Carney , the new US coordinator for Iraq’s economic development:

The US policy in Iraq following the 2003 invasion was “incompetent, foolish, dubious. The US policy to exclude Iraqis from governing the country in the two years following the invasion was “an enormous foolishness” which contributed to the deterioration of security.

“We don’t need to go into detail on that, but I think words such as incompetent, foolish, dubious in all of its aspects are the most charitable way to look at that period.

  11. lurker9876 says:

Time will prove you, Odom, Carney wrong. These are opinions; not facts. You’re a copperhead.
